Game Thoughts: This Thread has been Flagged for Pass Interference Edition

Im sure they'll give it a try, but Easley has mostly done his damage inside at DT.

I am aware Easley has done most of his damage at DT. However I could see him playing some of his snaps (maybe 20%) at DE due to need. I know it is not his best spot but perhaps what the team needs him to do. Also with Kelly/Wilfork both doing well and Siliga/Jones coming back soon likely and being decent backups the need there is not as great. I still wanna see Easley as a DT mostly of course.

He got beat on the Mark Sanchez TD that bounced out of one receiver's hand and caught by another one. It was his guy who was Sanchez's primary target, but dropped the ball.
His man didn't catch the pass though, tough to put that kind of play on him.

Total garbage.

BTW, was the Philly DB in the whole way on that INT in the 1st quarter? For some reason they didn't show that replay on the Jumbotron. Just Parry coming back and putting his arms up. They showed every other gd'ed play though. WTF is THIS???? The WWE? don't answer that question...

Notice Jones playing more OlB responsibilities on the first play? He was playing that a lot in the Tuesday practice if memory serves.

Revis made Maclin his ***** on that second eagles possession. You can still mug receivers, just make Damn sure you let them off at five...

I have to say that it looked to me like he steeped out of bounds before he hit the end zone. I only saw a part of one replay, but it looked for all the world like the outside of his right foot was on the foul line.

He was beat though, his man should have caught the ball. What do you think his coach says on that effort this week?

I didn't watch much of the beginning of the game last night. So hearing this tells me we were showing more 3-4?

I rewinded it on TV, he was in.

The flags made the game unbearable. As much as I wanted to see the new guys play, I stopped watching at the half.

I'm glad people are coming around on KT. It was upsetting seeing people relegate my binky from last year to WR6/bubble status. :D

His ceiling may not be the highest (doubtful he could become a WR1), but it's becoming apparent with improvement he could be a Branch or Givens WR2/WR3 for us. All Brady needs are reliable WRs that can get separation, run the route, and catch the ball. KT is close to being one of them.

Now if Dobson can become that WR1, that would be sweet.

Problem is, Boyce won't get many touches in the first 4 weeks. Gronk will be back, Dobson will be back, and Boyce is also behind Edelman, Amendola, Thompkins. He will be lucky to get 4 or 5 passes thrown to him.

His time to shine is NOW and he's not taking advantage of it.

The better player will ultimately make the squad. BB and the personnel guys get to see a lot more of these players than we do. I would hate to see Boyce cut because I think he has potential, but if he isn't performing as well as Tyms is, than Tyms will take his spot.
Yeah, but the first few games of the season will be like training camp for Gronk and Dobson. I mean, really how sharp can we expect those guy when they haven't really practiced in game like situations and probably won't have played in ANY preseason games. It takes a while to get into game shape.

Boyce has obvious talent. Good on end arounds, good kick returner, has blazing speed. BUT so did Bethel Johnson, and he basically sucked, but was serviceable for a few years. Tyms is a better receiver, only Stevie Wonder would think differently.

It's obvious that KT has made that year 2 jump. He looks like a polished NFL receiver. It's obvious Brady trusts him, and like I said last year, KT reminds me of Ochocino, WHEN he was Chad Johnson and when he was good. Same body type and playing style, though I don't know if he'll ever be that explosive.

Some game thoughts that are negative.

#1 Offensive Line - This unit did not impress me much. The Eagles don't have the front the Redskins do and i didn't see a ton of improvement. Hopefully it gets better but right now it is not looking like a strength

#2 DE backups - No one took the 3rd spot. Smith looks done. Buchanan can't contain well enough. Moore is too raw. Maybe Easley or someone else can help this. Right now it is not good enough.

Basically I came out of this game having none of the concerns I had going in alleviated. Still overall they looked good.

OL - I agree with all your points but #1 and #2. The offensive line impressed me against the Eagles. It was a revolving door out there. The Patriots were obviously looking for combinations that worked and probably found some. It's really early for that unit to gel, and from where I sat, they looked fine.

In the first half, when the #1s were on the field, the QBs had time to sort out what they wanted to do except for a couple of Garoppolo plays. Brady had a hurry and a knockdown that should have been roughing. Also, the running game racked up over 100 yards in the half including a number of impressive first downs - especially by the #1s.

DE - Easley is key to the rotation, and once he's in there with Jones and Ninkovich, the DL will be solid. The Eagles up-tempo offense was a problem for the Patriots because the ball came out so fast. Even Sanchez looked at ease against the #1s and #2s getting it out of there. (It made me think about how the idiot Jets misused his skills.) Anyway, outside pressure is tough to generate against three-step drops and quick-hit passes. The issue at DE is who is going to be #4 on the depth chart, and the Pats have a decent group competing for that slot.

Butler and Tyms both came out of nowhere and can make this team. They just need to continue doing what they're doing for the next 2 weeks.

I'd add Darius Fleming to that list. At this point, he looks to me like the team's #4 LB. Granted nobody else is exactly pressuring him for the job, but Fleming looks like he has legitimate NFL instincts.

29... god... damn... flags last night. 29 flags. If this garbage continues into the regular season, it's going to make the games very hard to watch.

If, as now seems likely, 6 CBs make the roster, there could be quite a few cuts among the safeties.
The Patriots finished 2012 and 2013 with 11 DBs on the roster.

Do you all think the 3-4 base is going to be the primary scheme in 2014, or do you think it is just something they are working on in the preseason? I honestly do not think it is a good scheme for our personnel, in prior years we actually had players like Spikes who would have been better suited in a 3-4 but now I feel like we have the ideal personnel for an attacking 4-3.

I don't like the 3-4 scheme for our personel. I'm a much bigger fan of 4-3 for us as that is what we have personel for in my opinion. It's probably going to be 4-2-5 for the majority of snaps anyway. But I really want 4 DL instead of 3 DL.

His man didn't catch the pass though, tough to put that kind of play on him.

His man didn't catch it because it bounced out of his hands when he hit the ground, not because Browner did anything to break up the TD. 99 times out out of 100, his guy would have held onto the ball.

Maclin didn't play last night.
