Malcolm Butler!!!

He's still more than likely behind all of Revis, Browner, Arrington, Dennard, and Ryan. Most media members seem to be projecting Ryan to start opposite Revis based on what they've seen in TC, and Dennard hasn't had much practice time yet.

It's still pretty crazy to assume he's overtaken anyone on the depth chat that has played in the NFL yet.

That doesn't mean he can't or won't, but it's been 2 preseason games, he has NOT shown more than any of those guys yet.

First team reps right now are about evaluation vs greater Talent, if he starts opposite of Revis in week 3, the dress rehearsal game, then maybe you're onto something, but as of right now his start is about evaluation, not positioning on the depth chart.

Agreed. Rarely, if ever (aside from maybe QB), do you see a player come on from nowhere and automatically shoot up the depth charts above proven, veteran, NFL talent ahead of him.

Butler needs a start somewhere, and right now he's giving himself that start by making his case for the 53. From there, he can get some rotational reps in the 4th quarter, along with being in line to take over for injury situations.

That said, as I pointed out earlier---should any one of Dennard, Ryan, Browner, or Arrington decide to start slipping, they'd have Malcolm Butler staring at them in the rear view mirror and ready to take one of their spots. The thought of leaping over multiple players however, isn't realistic.

Absolutely delighted to see a young man make the most of an opportunity given to him and show he's worth employing. All too often we see young kids given a shot at something and piss it away - not Mr. Butler. Welcome to the New England Patriots kid, by my reckoning right now, you're probably our fourth CB.

Infact I think he's number 3 on the outside for the first 4 games. Revis, Dennard and Butler - Browner after 4 games. Both Arrington and Ryan getting snaps NeXT to McCourty at safety, aswell as the nickel job. ( I like the ide with them as part CB part S)

Butler and Tyms are the first NFL players to benefit from the substance abuse policy...

Perhaps the reason that Butler was out there with the #1's was to see how he did with that unit, sometimes these kids wind up only with the #2's and #3's, so see how he does with the first string. The eyeball test says he did well...

I don't believe Butler has any connection to the substance abuse policy, he will benefit because of Browner. But if you're looking at it that way then every player who gains a roster spot due to someone suspended also benefits.

Tyms' benefits from it in the most interesting way, as he is not only an offender (as stupid as it is, for his case) he is also the biggest benefactor.

No, I was just right about Butler. That's all.

Marqui, there was exactly ONE poster in that long thread who disagreed about Butler being on track to make the team. Mr. West Alabama is everybody's binky. The only real debate is about depth charts, which remain unknown.

We are starting to see Arrington playing more split safety, I think he will become McCourty's B/U saving a spot in the backfield.

He benefits because of the Browner suspension situation, a roster spot is open for 4 weeks, by then there will probably be some injury(ies)...

With Ryan and Arrington being full time slot/safety hybrids based on these two games/TC,the only player in the way of Butler starting across Revis is Dennard.

I don't know if there is even a competition between them, but if Butler starts again next week and plays well, nothing would surprise me with BB.

Well, ya know he's too short and too slow for a CB.......:D

Looks like BB finally found a Butler that can play DB.

He's looked capable so far, but try to remember that this is preseason guys. Sudfeld was getting the nickname "Studfeld" last year at this time. He then turned into Dudfeld in the regular season when the games began to have actual meaning.

Why is this stuff only crazy when I say it?

Because you went a lot further than just saying he'd make the team off of one exhibition game appearance. That's why.

Actually I didn't go a lot further. All I said was he Butler is a lock to make the team because he's been one of the best 3 CB performers in training camp.

No, sorry. You did go a lot further. Here's an example:

Not really. He's already passed Ryan and Dennard for different reasons and has been getting 1st team reps with Revis over those 2. And with Browner's suspension, Butler will be on the initial 53.

Claiming that he's passed Dennard, when Dennard hasn't been on the field to get passed, is crazy.

You need to work on your reading comprehension. In that conversation I said in training camp. Dennard has barley practiced meanwhile Butler has been playing well, therefore he is having a better camp. It's not that complicated.

My reading comprehension is fine. Your post was an example of insanity. Make better posts, and people might not thing you're being as crazy. You also asked for the 2 CBs who've been better than Butler, which implied that you thought Butler was no lower than the 2nd best CB in camp, not just a top 3 guy.

Again, your issues, not issues of those responding to your posts.

Actually I think you are referring to me and I didn't disagree that he could make the roster, I disagreed he was a lock or ahead of Dennard, Ryan and Arrington.

I still do not see him as a lock but I liked his game last night much more than the Skins game.
