Malcolm Butler!!!

Why is this stuff only crazy when I say it?

I think many felt that your suggestion that Malcolm Butler had already overtaken Dennard, Ryan, Arrington, and Browner as the CB2 was what people did not agree with, Marqui. It is probably just the way that you worded it, that's all.

After seeing Butler play very well in his 2nd preseason game tonight, I would think that most of us see him as having a very good chance of making the team.

I would still think that those same majority of people would highly disagree with your notion that Butler has overtaken those NFL proven players at the same time. Butler will be a ST and depth move as the low man on the CB totem pole, at least until he gets his shot when an injury occurs.

I never said that.

You asked a poster what 2 CB's were ahead of Butler at that point (after the first game). Do you deny it?

Patriot Missle, you can disagree all you like. All you need to do is go back and read the thread. The claim Marqui made was comical. He then tried to go into Strawman mode and pretend that he only claimed that Butler was just going to make the team.

Sorry, but its all there. You trying to call out the board as clueless for calling him out on his silly claim is making you look real bad here.

Tymes os suspended for 4 games so the decision won't be for a while and injuries may decide it when the time comes. Same with Butler making it for sure until Browner's 4 weeks are up. Then we'll see.

To be honest, Belichick Fan, we already had a pretty nice grouping of talent at CB---so it was hardly written in stone that it'd be a CB who was going to take over Browner's spot on the 53. Many thought it'd be a WR, a RB, a ST only player, etc.

Luckily, in the meantime, Butler stepped up and made it a clear cut decision; at least going into the 3rd preseason game anyway.

Butler got 1st team reps...I don't really care about this pizzing match going on but it's clear he's opened eyes with the coaches. He'd have to fall off the earth to miss making THIS roster. IMO of course.

I said he was a top 3 CB. Somebody responded basically saying he was the 5th CB at best. And I asked who were the 2 CBs (3rd and 4th) in front of him.

I and many others did not think at that time he was a top 3. Maybe after tonight that changed but at that time no. Also, I dont recall anyone saying he would not make the team, a few said he was probably not a lock, but again this was all after game 1.

Bottom line, nobody's criticism of your views on Butler were out of line.

After tonight Butler just made a stronger case and with Green now being dealt make is likely he is a lock. Where he is depth wise is still up for grabs.

He was also getting first team reps in practice opposite Revis so I'm sure the coaches see some potential there. We will see what happens once everyone is back healthy.

I think it's a great story, Joker, not to mention exactly what we needed for the future of the CB grouping.

Should one of Ryan, Arrington, Browner, or Dennard start to slack off---Malcolm Butler will be there to steal their spot. If/when injury occurs, Malcolm Butler may get his shot that way as well. It's probably even fair to say that he'll get some rotational reps at times when we get into 4th quarter blowout situations.

I don't believe that he has leaped over all of those NFL proven CBs already though. That is not a very realistic scenario.

As far as the pissing match goes---I would bet that Marqui was suggesting that Butler has played in the top 3 of CBs thus far during TC, and simply mis-typed or mis-represented himself in some way, which happens every day to many of us.

No, I was just right about Butler. That's all.

You said he was the second best corner on the team. That's where most disagreed.

However, I give you kudos for calling it...I hope I didn't just jinx anything...

He's been one of their top 3 corners in camp this year. They're not going to cut him, sorry.

My bad, you said top three...then asked for two corners playing better this camp not long after. He has been playing well, but top three was a stretch at the time (putting things mildly) and is a stretch now as good as the kid looked.

I guess reading comprehension is not fundamental around here. Read the post I responded to when I asked for 2 corners that are better.

I take back the aforementioned kudos. :p

What is relevant is that Butler is currently playing as well as an anyone that doesn't have his own island.

Let's be real. Folks are talking about Thomas making the team as a developmental defensive back. If we are to have even one developmental position of the team (other than a top draft choice), that position should go to Butler. At very least he is a developmental prospect.

Unfortunately, the ship on Jamea Thomas may have sailed, although he may still be a fine addition to the PS after getting cut. That would work quite nicely in my opinion. I can't see any justification for keeping Thomas at this point in time, and we're starting to get a much clearer picture heading into week #3 of preseason now; especially as TC wraps up next week.

He's still more than likely behind all of Revis, Browner, Arrington, Dennard, and Ryan. Most media members seem to be projecting Ryan to start opposite Revis based on what they've seen in TC, and Dennard hasn't had much practice time yet.

It's still pretty crazy to assume he's overtaken anyone on the depth chat that has played in the NFL yet.

That doesn't mean he can't or won't, but it's been 2 preseason games, he has NOT shown more than any of those guys yet.

First team reps right now are about evaluation vs greater Talent, if he starts opposite of Revis in week 3, the dress rehearsal game, then maybe you're onto something, but as of right now his start is about evaluation, not positioning on the depth chart.
