Pats Pre-season TV production is not good

I didn't really mind Glanville all that much - he was at least good for a laugh now and then.

Criqui's non-stop slobberfest over The Family Kraft was insufferable.

May have to mute tv tonight

Living here in Hershey, I'll receive the Eagles broadcast. Yay me.

According to Boston Sports Media the local version (Patriots) is being nationally broadcast, so it won't be Philadelphia's.
In the past, they have split the broadcast. Half of it by the home team's crew, half by the away team's crew. Don't know whether they will do that tonight.

Is it that hard to find announcers who can actually report the reality unfolding in front of us on TV?

Is it that hard to create graphics that provide accurate data about a team?

Is it that hard to track the events of the game, to show, for example, key penalties being called, and to explain what happened?

Is it that hard to know what's going on with a team's roster situation, when you are the home town broadcaster?

Is it that hard to avoid whining like a drunken fan, and instead give insightful or thoughtful analysis?

Do these people even get embarrassed when reviewing their work? Or do they not care enough to do so?

Sorry, probably not a useful rant.

I totally agree with you when it comes to the announcers. But for other aspects of the production like the above, I cut them more slack -- these local preseason productions have a fraction of the staff and budget of a high-profile national game.

What patchick says. This isn't a big-time system like Fox or CBS. These guys don't have access to all the staff (and THAT is where the real expenses are) and although they can cull all the info they need from New England's front office and PR department, it's still only for 4 pre-season games and then that's that until the following year.

Even with the large fan base, the stations involved still have the rest of the year to cover and their budgets simply don't allow for the standards that the big boys can produce.

Besides, be greatful we even HAVE these televised live. During the first few years of the 2000's. only those who got WBZ could watch the game live. Everyone else had to wait until the following day for a taped replay on their local stations, or listen to the radio.

If you're a member of an NFL team's fan forum, then the "shows" that the TV channels put on for football weren't created for you. Broadcasting is about appealing to the lowest common denominator.

Bummer, Ian. :(
If they pan away from the game to listen to that moronic Sam Adams beer owner chirp away mindlessly for minutes again I'll....Wait. The NSA is reading this.
Well, last night they interviewed some dude no one cares about from Friendly's while the pats were creating and recovering a fumble. Didn't even break away. Bob Kraft should be embarrassed.

I realize that they're experimenting with the conversational broadcast, but it can be tough to watch at times.
Dan Roche seems like he's a great guy, but as a play-by-play announcer-he's overmatched.

Given a little time and experience Christian Fauria could be a good analyst; I'm sure his new gig on EEI will help him quite a bit.

Cutting away to Perillo and Hart doesn't really add anything to the broadcast.

On the other hand Matt Chatham knows what he's talking about and can communicate it well to the audience. He's a guy who should get a shot as a full-time football analyst.

Oh, gawd. it's gonna be a long night. Video of the Pats production meeting for tonight's broadcast:

These idiots are actually planning how they can ignore the game action in order to focus on their "analysis" of players and positions.

Heck, maybe they could just skip the game entirely and stay with Andy Hart and Paul Perillo in the leather recliners. Bring in Mike Mayock to talk about each player's 3-cone shuttle at his pro day. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Just shoot me now.

There's a thread on this from before the changeover. Those of us who thought this was a bad idea were told we were crazy.

i wish someone would give felger a chance as a color commentator....he would be better than madden, collinsworth, simms......

I apologize if you were being sarcastic regarding ignoramus Felgie.

lol......i'm sarcastic most of the time.....no apology needed......

on a serious note.....you are in favor of something like the fairtax, correct?........how feasible do you think it is?......both politically and implementing/enforcing it........huckabee got torpedoed by his own party, partly because of that, if i remember correctly

As someone who doesn't live in the area and rarely gets to hear the Patriots' broadcasters, I'm looking forward to listening to them. Seems like there may be too many guys in the booth, though.

Just put on a rerun of golden girls. Same aimless chatter, but the latter might have more football talk given Bea Arthur's experience playing H-Back.

I was actually enjoying Matt Chatham with whoever that generic announcer was. Then it seemed like a bunch of loudmouths had walked into the bar where you were enjoying the game on TV and just wouldn't shut up. Insufferable.

Indeed. Chatham was a breath of fresh air in there. With enough experience, Fauria might actually do well, but it would be better for him to have some time in the studio instead of learning in the booth during the game.

Whoever was chattering last night, it was still better than Dan Deirdorf.
