What would it take for you to stop watching football?

the big problem with the UFC is they flew too close to the sun, they went from maybe 12 events a year to something like 35 events. you've got the ppv events, the Ultimate fight nights, The ultimate fighter finales, and the Fight nights on Fox. They have not developed enough talent to fill all of those events with solid fights, and its resulted in tons of really really bad cards that are just not worth watching.

It would be like adding 12 more teams to the NFL. there are just not enough elite players to fill those rosters.

Now the thing that would make me stop watching football, Phil sims doing announcing with dan dierdorf for a broncos vs patriots game. I don't think i could handle the amount of bukakae those two would lay down on manning.

Another ten years of Goodell.

There are some really drastic things that could drive me away overnight, but they're either extremely unlikely, or extremely unlikely to ever be proven to the point where I can accept them. For example, if I found our everything was scripted like professional wrestling, I would lose interest immediately.

As for the gradual fall due to rule changes, etc, that would take a VERY long time to turn me off, and I get the feeling the NFL would feel the effects from other parts of the fanbase before it got bad enough to bother me.

I can envision a scenario though where the rules have changed the game, and I don't even really notice it until the Pats win a Super Bowl, and after the initial seconds of euphoria I realize that they didn't really win playing football... they won playing some similar kind of game and the satisfaction just won't be there. And once the drive to see your team win a championship is diminished, I'll probably stop watching.

I only watch playoff games, then turn it off if they're losing.

Someone ranked this funny, but it's true. It's terrifying to think of what the game could potentially become after another 10 years of him being in charge. Hopefully some sort of massive controversy or scandal will happen and force him to step down.

The interesting thing, of course, is that the people whose income and net worth are actually at risk (i.e. the owners) think Goodell is doing a terrific job. In 2012 they extended his contract (then set to expire in 2014) for another five years so that it now doesn't expire until March 2019.

He started out acting like a kid on Christmas morning, then tactlessly fired Landry. Was a PR disaster the next six months, accumulating in saying the cheerleaders were: "pick of the litter." Robert Kraft may not be the face of the Patriots, but thank him for sourcing football matters to experts.

A thoughtful newspaper or magazine article explaining the moral hazards of enjoying the sport would probably do it for me.

That is because they could give a crap about the product as long as revenue is growing. They risk destroying the game so that they will die with 11.4 billion in assets instead of 11.3 Billion.

Their profits grew during that time, but you could easily make the argument that Goodell had nothing to do with that. Still, they liked where things were heading at the time. If the game keeps getting tinkered with, people will eventually have enough. My dad, who used to be the biggest NFL fan and apologist I knew, now barely watches due to the fact that defenses are barely allowed to play. Last year was sort of a renaissance for him due to the fact that defense was back (he loved the 49ers/Panthers and 49ers/Seahawks contests) but now he's back to barely paying attention to it with the new "point of emphasis".

Goodell has done a pretty good job at keeping the league alive for the future. Yes some here want to have a game where you can hit each other in the head as hard as possible(I do not) so they hate the new rules. But with all the news about the dangers of concussions it just wouldn't be possible to keep the league alive with those helmet hits. Goodell has taken steps that can allow the league to survive. He has done some bad things too. Like suspensions where really seems to have ****ed up But decreasing concussions is important in the long run.

Hell, look at the Seahawks for example. They have shown that you can still hit hard as **** within the new rules.

What has he done to help the game? Kraft was the one who negotiated the great new TV deal and almost single handedly saved the CBA negotiations. Goodell's push for more regular season games and expanding the playoffs may damage the product beyond repair.
