@NEPD_Loyko: According to @FCSScout #Patriots will be signing former East Carolina and Falcons QB Dominique Davis.

Mallett injured?

Mallet is injured, but why wouldn't they be looking at quarterbacks? Even if mallet had been playing better, he's gone next year, leaving the team with a division two QB backup, though he had a decent game the other day.

If I had to guess it is for him to run the scout team as a mobile QB so the defense can practice containment etc. Brady, Mallett, and Garopollo are all pocket passers, Davis will bring something different for the defense to work against.

If Mallett misses significant time, they'll overwork the other two. So a deep back-up needed.
Wonder who they cut.

That makes a lot of sense for the Patriots--plus they are going to need someone to take reps if Mallett is out for training camp.

I know a guy who could fill that role... #bringbackTebow!

The purpose of the signing is just to fill in with reps if Mallet can't go

They need to cut 2 players to fit Davis and Worthy. If I had to guess 1 will be 1 of the TEs they signed the other day and the other will be one of the no name DTs.

They only need to cut someone if Worthy passes his physical..

cut by the end of the week

You could be onto something. I'll be interested to see if you're right, or if this is just a signing for a few days/week until Mallett is ready to take reps again. Either way, I have no idea myself.

Also a former BC quarterback who lost his spot on the Heights to a 30 year old baseball player and went to ECU as a result. Truth is BC should have kept him but interesting choice of rent-a-arm in the metanarrative of local college sports terms.

Ya mean a Mallet trade isn't in the works? ;)

I think this report ended up being false.

Even if the report is false, the Pats should have 4 QBs in camp anyway.

I wouldn't see much need to have a 4th arm right now, myself. Actually, I think it would take away from Mallett's/Garappalo's reps, which are quite important.

I agree that we should have a developmental QB on the practice squad this year though. Of course, there's plenty of time to do that down the road a bit.

I can absolutely see BB keeping 4 QB's with Davis running the practice squad. Mallet is still the primary backup since he knows the system. It's gonna take a year for Jimmy the Grop to take it all in. Then, next year, he can take over when Mallet leaves.

Having said that, I'm also willing to admit that I'm just guessing here. I know that Mallet took a more serious injury when he slid during the 1st Quarter, though he kept on playing. But it\s obvious to anyone that he had more damage than what we saw him show. So....... although I can see 4 QB's on the team, it's rather likely that Davis is just insurance.

But again, who knows?

Someone else needed some reps since Mallet isn't doing much right now.
