Justin Green to Cowboys for Ben Bass

A minor if rare trade reflects strength of CB position from last year's roster and cannot be bad news for Butler.

Bass made the Cowboys’ roster in 2012 as an undrafted free agent from Texas A&M who played two games as a rookie. Last year he suffered through injuries that landed him on IR without playing a game.

This year, the defensive tackle has been hobbled with hamstring issues and didn’t practice much here in training camp.

With Malcolm Butler's emergence there was no way Green was going to make the roster. Does anyone know anything about Bass?

From the article:

Perhaps the thinking is to evaluate him through camp then stash him or IR for use next year?

Who knows.

The only thing I know about Bass is that this deal may be nullified since Bass isn't healthy.. He was on IR all last year and he's been dealing with hamstring issues this TC..

I rather have a 7th round pick!

I honestly wanted to see more of Green. He made some serious strides in his play from last year. Last year he was beaten by EVERYONE at the line of scrimmage and now he actually looks decent. But we do need some new dt depth because the redskins showed that by running it down our throats with relative ease.

I honestly thought it said they had acquired Brandon Bass. I was legitimately confused.

I like that they traded a CB away instead of cutting him.The Jets are just waiting to go through our trash I bet.

That was my first thought, too. Anything that keeps an even semi-competent CB away from the Jets is worth it. Green might be their #3 if he joined their camp tomorrow.

Yes, because they just rolled all over our starting front 7... OH Wait.. that's right.. We didn't have Mayo, Collins, Hightower, Ninkovich, or Jones playing.. Yet, we somehow "need some new dt depth because the redskins showed that by running it down our throats with relative ease"....

The trade for Worthy is for future considerations.. Only happens if he passes physical and makes roster.

I knew nothing about Ben Bass before today, and I still like this trade. Justin Green wasn't going to
help us this season or any season.

Honestly, that was my thinking as well. Bass has potential and New England has some top-flight therapy folks so rehabbing here, even if it means going on IR and being available next season makes a lot of sense.

I never said they ran it on our starters. I simply was saying that our bottom of the roster defensive tackles etc were no match for the redskins bottom players when it came to stopping the run and it would be nice if our bottom depth dt were to be upgraded. Hopefully Bass and Worthy will help this cause. Preseason or not, getting ran all over is the worst way to lose.

No.. The problem is that you generalized to begin with. You didn't specify what you were talking about.

Also, since you didn't notice, the Pats were in a vanilla 3-4 for most of the game after Wilfork and Kelly were pulled and Jones went down. That isn't the defense that the Pats 1st string defense will be playing.

The Pats made these deals to get bodies into camp because Siliga and Jones are injured and they don't want to over-work Kelly and Wilfork on meaningless games as they are coming back from injury.
