Game Thoughts: Who really gives a crap edition, it is only preseason

Reiss reported all week that solder had trouble in 1 on 1s with brian orakpo.

And it showed up in the game. First series, holding penalty on Solder to prevent a sack. Second series, gives up a quick sack.

IMO the worst part of the game by far was adding Chris Jones to the list of the wounded, alongside Siliga. A big yikes on DT depth.

My thoughts are the same as everyone else for the most part.

Solder/Ryan were the key players that stood out in a bad way. Not overly concerned. Ryan had a bad game but has looked good overall this camp. Solder always has trouble with top DEs. Just need to work around it.

I like how the new guys Lafell/Browner looked.

On DE Smith did little to help his case to make this team. I so no difference between his ability and other guys. In fact he looked worse than a few.

Mallet is not worth carrying.

Thankfully it doesn't look to be too serious.

He can't bulk up- that's the problem, this kid has had trouble adding muscle for years now. He and Wendell were the weak spots in the oline last year and nothing is going to change until bill recognizes what everyone else sees. Both solder and Wendell need to be replaced - I was never sold on solder, despite all the hype that he was getting on this board. Reiss reported all week that solder had trouble in 1 on 1s with brian orakpo.

I disagree. He's lean so he doesn't have a lot of girth but I thought his arms looked huge last night. When he came into the league he looked like a slim TE.
I think most LT's will have trouble with the elite pass rushers. Light could never stop Jason Taylor.

On a side note, what did people see out of Browner that was impressive? I didn't notice him bc I was ffwding the DVR when the defense was on the field. too ugly to watch.

Browner is going to struggle if he's overly physical past 5 yards. They are coming after guys like him to help peyton win a second Super Bowl.

It stood out to me that Tavon Wilson appears to be in the lead for the starting safety position next to McCourty. It is amazing what an offseason of working out with Revis can do for you.

I did not think Ryan played as poorly as many thought, also I thought he got a little shaken up when Harmon tackled him on the TD he gave up. Harmon I thought looked bad last night, poor angles, bad tackling.

By the time Browner returns from his suspension the enforcement of that rule will have lessened and they will be letting the players play. Otherwise every game will be 5 hours with 3 hours consisting of penalties being announced.

Mallett did not play well last night, but I put most of the blame on the OL. I want to see what he can do when he isn't fearing for his life on every step back to throw.

Mallet didn't get much help from his teammates the whole night. He was under huge pressure basically every snap. He had an excellent play stepping up and delivering an accurate ball under pressure which was negated by the penalty early. His receivers ran incorrect routes at times, Finch didn't look for the ball when he was wide open on third down, and Mallett didn't settle down again after the sack, and once he started rushing throws, they were a lot worse. That being said, Garoppolo remained accurate under pressure a few times, and Mallett still came out of the game looking vastly inferior, especially considering he has the advantage of a ton of experience in this system.

Was at the game last night and Mallett looked rushed, very poor decision making, locking onto receivers everything was low.
OL needs work as Solder looked inconsistent(disappointing) When is the light gonna go off and he get it??
Liked What I saw from Browner.
Realize it was garbage time and all scrubs but Garoppolo looked decent, liked the long ball.
Lafell, Thompkins, Boyce= blah
But no injuries so lets move on
Did find it amusing that BB gets the extra point rule implemented then goes for 2 after TD.
Just a brief synopsis, add to it what you want agree/disagree if you want

Lafell and Thompkins did just fine if you actually watched the game..
Chris Jones was injured and is expected to miss the next 3 weeks..

Also in the form of Mankins being next to him, who didn't play last night. I'm hoping to see better things from Solder than we saw last night, but there are a lot of factors that go into it in preseason. How he adjusts in week 2 will give us a better idea I think.
Neither Mankins nor Klein played next to Solder last night. Which I found interesting. Kline did well at LG last year when Mankins shifted over to LT. I would have liked to see Kline there to see what he could do next to Solder. Devey was not good at all..

Solder was not a weak spot for the O-line last year. Wendell and Connolly were the weak spots. Clearly didn't watch the same team everyone else did..

Butler played well last night. The couple of passes he let up were damn near perfect throws by the QB. I liked how he played through the whistle on every play, though it led to the Personal foul penalty.

Kanorris Davis played well on Special Teams.

Beauharnais was lackluster to say the least. Wasn't impressed by him. Blew a bunch of zone coverages and individual coverages.

Things got a bit confusing with several players wearing the same number (Butler/Finch both wearing 29). Not sure if it was Butler or Finch whom BB was walking away from after talking to him.. BB had a smile on though.. It was immediately after the Finch fumble that got erased by the penalty flag.

Zach Moore, Darius Fleming and Michael Buchanon all stood out. They should flashes.

Was interesting to see a lot of 3-4 out of the Pats last night.. Could just have been because of Jones going down, but it was interesting.

Forston isn't long for this team.

The funny thing about Garoppolo was prior to his second drive, when they showed him throwing on the sidelines, his posture and body language looked really bad. He almost looked sad too. And then he comes out on the field and kills it.

There is no one on the team names Klein.

That's why I don't think that they should deviate from what the Seahawks were doing. Dare the refs to slow the game to a snail's pace. If they do, it's only a matter of time before fans reign down Hell on Goodell's office and it's changed. If they don't, defenses will be allowed to play.

When is he going to get what? Guy has played fine to excellent his last 3 years. He had a bad game last night so he needs to "get it" now?

Solder has not been the weakest link on the OL the last two years (that's been Wendell), but he's been far from "excellent". His functional strength could really stand to improve.
