Throw Back Uniforms?

All the red throwback uniforms and white helmets, cursed and defiled by decades of losing and historical incorrectness, were given a final resting place beneath smoldering compost in an Attleboro landfill. May they rest in pieces. Amen.

Basically, helmets need to comply to current NFL safety standards.

That means if teams want to have throwback helmets, they have two options:

1. Wear the current uniform and logo.

2. Take the time to place the throwback logo on everyone's individualized helmet for one game, and then change it back for the next game.

The real issue is player safety, specifically the current focus - concussions. The helmet that is worn needs to conform to each individual player. In the long run, isn't that more important than seeing Pat Patriot or whatever other team's old logo on a helmet? It doesn't preclude the team from wearing throwback uniforms; it's just a safety rule regarding protective head gear.

This sucks cause I loved those throw backs 4 times a year. Those rocked.

I don't believe they used them that often, did they? Certainly not 4 times a year on the regular.

They wore them in the '02 Thanksgiving Day game, then brought them back 7 yrs later for the time period of 2009-2012, where they maybe wore them 2x or so per year.

It does seem kind of odd that they haven't found a workaround to the new helmet rule yet, especially when additional revenue is always a top priority for every team.

As many others have said when this subject is brought up, it does seem a bit odd that more teams haven't chosen to use their current helmets with the alternate/throwback jersey.

Then again, they've probably done some kind of research on the sales of the throwbacks and found they people are still buying them up on the regular, no matter what ;)

Yeah...everyone knows the Patriots of 1776 had silver helmets with red facemasks........umm, oh, wait...

Bring back Pat Patriot twice a year ! :D

I love the red jerseys, white pants and white hats. Also, loved the away red pants and white jerseys.

I can live without the throwbacks if we can avoid having Denver trot out in these. Horrible.

I would be surprised if the team didn't have multiple helmets customized for each player. IMO it would be no big deal to have and additional 'personalized' helmet with the different color/logo.

Isn't that Casper, the Patriot ghost? He must've died at the battle of Bunker Hill. Yeah ... looks like he got shot in the mouth.

Then there's the deranged-looking Patriot:

That was followed by the more-familiar logo:

And then of course there was Flying Elvis:

Flying Elvis. ... all day!

Those things are brutal. It doesn't get much more 90's than that.
Weren't you still in knickers then? For you that should be the good 'ol days, full of warm nostalgia.

The good ol' days for me were my high school years and those were when the Pats were wearing their current uni's and kicking asses.

Bring back Pat change the helmets! You pay guys to squirt gatorade into players mouths surely you can afford it.

Okay, the deranged looking Patriot is bad-ass. I think we should switch over to that logo, and have HERNANDEZ on the back of every single jersey.

The psychological aspect alone will give us quite an advantage.

I'll say this. One of the most talented Patriot teams of all time wore the Pat Patriot uniform in 1976. No team wearing those soccer style mid/late 90's with the horrendous number fonts come close, and maybe 3 of the Flying Elvis teams were as good or better.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the current uniform, but I feel it's a misconception that all the teams wearing those red jerseys were horrible.
