The key word is "crucial" game. Like have to win or go home.

But since you brought up 2012, Mr Elite got torched for a TD by Pitta and Flacco in the AFCC. Im looking for a big play in a game like that.

How many of those games have the patriots had in the last 5 years?

5? all playoff games against the best the league has to offer. Here is a question for you, you entitled brat, How many games has McCourty LOST us in crucial games?

That's a lie.
1992 till the new stadium I was in 223, new stadium I was in 312. When I first got seas tix they were $23 a game...when I got rid of them in 2010 I think they had gone up to $99 a game..I saw it all; snow bowl, 96 afc title game when the lights went out and the stadium literally shook as Otis Smith returned the fumble for a td, the fog playoff gm vs Pittsbugh...IN my time as a ticket holder I probably shelled out $10K-$15K in tickets, parking, and $8 Coors Lights to the Krafts...

I deleted that post because I was just trolling you and it didn't seem worth it. On the real, you're a pretty lucky guy having seen all that.

Seau, Harrison, Revis, Reed, Law are Elite players. Mcourty is not.

Ridiculous. He's one of the top safeties in the NFL AT THIS TIME. You are now bringing out mostly retired all-time greats, some from OTHER POSITIONS, to make your point??? :D :D :D

4 of those 5 players played 13+ years in the league at ONE position (Law played safety for a handful of games at the bitter end).

Revis is entering his 8th year.

McCourty has played 4 years in the NFL, and has had to learn and master a new position halfway through that time. He's made the Pro Bowl at two different positions and has 6-8 more years ahead of him.

Are you serious? I honestly hope that you're trolling, because if not that might be the dumbest argument I've ever read.

By your definition, the following players are not elite:

Darrelle Revis
Adrian Peterson
JJ Watt
Calvin Johnson
Von Miller
DeMarcus Ware
Dez Bryant
Andrew Luck
Jimmy Graham
Brandon Marshall
Robert Quinn
...

should I keep going, or has the point been made?

Not sure what's being debated here but ...... if getting Revis locked-up means having to bid farewell to McCourty then I'm fine with that decision.

Point will never be made. Triumph appointed himself conductor of the McCourty hate train long ago and no amount of evidence is going to prompt him to reevaluate his position. The best you can really do is laugh, shake your head, and continue on your way.

I'm sorry, Bob, but that's just lazy. It's a ridiculous supposition that McCourty-Revis is an 'either-or" thing.

Hernandez' massive cap hit drops off next year.

And why is the problem McCourty when Logan Mankin's dirty bomb of a contract is on the books?

Let's ask Miguel who has Mankins as the repeat champion, 2 YEARS IN A ROW, for the worst value contract for the New England Patriots:

It was really about the likelihood of a Revis extension but that also means some McCourty hate thrown in for good measure. So far I have yet to see anyone make an argument in favor of McCourty over Revis, most want them to find a way to keep both.

You have to keep Revis and Mccourty.
This is a big season for Admendola and if Mankins is anything but a beast he will not be a Patriot next year unless he takes a significant payout.

Please make it happen Kraft, i want Revis island to stay

It isn't an either or proposition. The Pats want to keep them both and neither contract will force the Pats to choose between the two.

If anything, it will be either Revis or Logan Mankins. The Pats may have to cut Mankins and Wilfork to get the cap space to pay for McCourty and Revis. But neither Wilfork nor Mankins will make what they are on the books for next year anyway. Cutting both would free up about $15 million of cap space which is probably more than the cap hit for both McCourty and Revis next season if both re-sign.

Agreed. I get the sense BB loves McCourty (and probably Revis, too, for that matter). Can't see him letting either one get away.

One more thing to remember. Revis currently has a $25 million cap hit in 2015. So even if he has a record setting deal, his cap hit will likely drop by $10-15 million. Possibly more.

I wasn't supposing it to be an either/or situation (I don't profess to have a clue either way).

What I am saying is that if it indeed becomes one, I'm all in for keeping Revis and letting McCourty walk.

All the more reason to start transitioning Logan Ryan to safety now.

I would think that this is one of the contingency plans if it ends up as so.

Which is probably more than enough to get McCourty re-signed.

I look at 4-6 moves that could free up $19m-$31m
$10m-$15m giving Revis an extension
$6.5m Mankins or Wilfork ($13m for both)
$1.4m Amendola
$1m Hoomanawanui
$690k Wendell
