I am just glad to hear about Justin Jones steady progress. Imagine going into the regular season with this position being considerably better than last year with the addition of a massive Rookie FA. Asa Watson shoud get some looks too I hear he has very Good straight line speed. Sucks what happened to D.J. Williams I really wanted to see him tomorrow night...hope he'll be back out there soon.
You only have to see the size mismatches Detroit's Joseph Fauria creates in the Red Zone to appreciate that.

That is one helluva catch from LaFell.

He has looked much better over the course of the last 5-6 practices from some of the sources that I've read. I would imagine that it takes a few practices to get into the groove of things.
In fairness supa, LaFell has to acclimate himself to a game plan where he's thrown the ball.

He's had close to 50 catches the past couple of seasons, so I don't imagine that he's going to see anything more than the number of targets/production that he's had lately.

I do agree with you that he likely had to make some pretty big changes, and yes--the number of targets and tendency to be looked at is certainly one of them. I'm sure our offense is night/day different from the more basic sets at Carolina and LSU.

Too late. We've already written him off. He's a bum and this Belichick guy doesn't a clue about signing free agents. He's a bum, too. :)

I agree on the principle of prioritizing DB over WR, but I think that in this case most of the folks projecting short on DBs are doing so because they know they can plug in Browner after four games.
At most, I would project the following number of players on offense:

QB - 3
RB - 5 (4 halfbacks, 1 fullback)
WR - 7
TE - 3
OC - 2
OG - 3
OT - 4

Realistically, I can't foresee seven wide receivers on the 53 man roster unless Aaron Dobson remains on the PUP list.

Aaron Dobson - Rotoworld

I'll reserve judgment after the third preseason game.

Is Justin Jones our only available TE for tonights game?

@AlbertBreer: Ryan Mallett might as well be wearing a For Sale sign around his neck. Seen this act before. Usually, no one takes the bait. We'll see.

Teams would either have to be incredibly stupid or incredibly desperate to take the bait when they could just wait until the guy becomes a UFA next season.

Or, you know, the team itself might actually want to see how Mallett will do in actual in-game conditions? That they're giving him a practice game so that he can, gasp, practice??? I'm sure that's a crazy thought for Breer, of course....

Given how Belichick went on record recently about the importance of the backup QB position, given how all reports indicate that Garappolo is not anywhere close to ready, and given that Mallett is an UFA next year, why would anyone think that Mallett is being "showcased" at this point? If Garappolo were lighting it up, that would be a different story, but that's not what is being reported.

I'm skeptical that BB would trade The Hammah now & feel comfortable with JAG as TFB's backup

Agreed. If Brady goes down, the season is in the crapper anyway. No need to go full Gabbert on Garoppolo and crush the kid's confidence while you're at it.

If Albert has a Patriots opinion, the truth is usually the opposite of that opinion. He's a ****ing tool.

I don't see where he's off, though. No team in the NFL usually jumps to trade for a guy that will be a UFA the following season. That may not be why the team is playing Mallett, but it's been reported that they were open to trading him this offseason. I do agree that Breer is a putz, FWIW.
