Looking back at Tom Brady's performance in this past AFC Championship Game

Some of Tom Terrific's playoff performances since 2004:

DEN: 20-36, 341 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT's
SD: 27-51, 280 yards, 2 TD's, 3 INT's
SD: 22-33, 207 yards, 2 TD's 3 INT's
BAL: 23-42, 154 yards, 2 TD's, 3 INT's (I'm sensing a trend)
BAL 22-36, 239 yards, 0 TD's, 2 INT's
BAL: 29-54, 320 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT's

And we've already seen Belichick's defenses at work. Joe Flacco x2, Eli Manning x2, Mark Sanchez.

Its well known that if you knock Brady to the ground or get him to move off his spot that he becomes rattled and less effective. Brady is no threat to run so hes basically a sitting duck back there. Some games, Brady is the best chance to win and the best chance to lose. Constant pass, pass, pass isn't a good thing. Like the NY Giants said "NE wants to plat basketball"

Brady is not invincible anymore. Brady is still a first ballot HOFer and top 5 QB in the NFL. The Pats win alot of games just because of him. The magic in the early Brady years where he was money and would always make a play to win the game? I hope we see that Brady again and soon.

In Bradys early years he had a great defense and great playcalling.

Charlie Weiss does not get enough credit.

Brady was bad but it didn't really make a difference. He could have had an A game and we still would have needed to be very fortunate with turnovers/timing to win that game. The sad thing is given how our defense played, it didnt matter if we were down 7, down 3, tied, or even somehow up late in that game our defense wasn't going to stop **** they were going to lose it.

Having a handful of bad throws (literally 5) and not turning the ball over constitutes as a bad game? I strongly disagree.

However, if Brady had also thrown a pick or two in that game, I would agree with you.

When it comes to analyzing playoff performances most often we are really just talking about 'the last game' which for 11 of the 12 playoff teams will be a loss.

Think about it, right now we are anazlying Brady's play in the AFC Championship Game, the same game in which many of us would agree that Peyton Manning played well.......BUT........do you think the people in Denver are talking about this game and how Peyton played well?!?! Defintiely not, they are focused on his Super Bowl performance.

Just making a point that unless your team is the 1 of 12 to win it all, we'll be judging a QB based on a losing performance. Do to the very nature that it was a loss we'll always find ways in which the QB could have been better.

The fact is that we have a great QB. Sure, his playoff stats aren't as good as his regular season stats, but they should not be. It's expected that we would be playing against the best defenses in the NFL.

Be careful. You don't want to be making rational, logical points such as this one too often around here lest you be accused of being a HOMER!!! It's less egregious with some around here to be a murdering pedophile.

How spoiled we are that making the conference championship game and losing is considered such an extreme disappointment. This applies whether talking about Brady specifically or the team as a whole.

After reading this post, I now know why they already started working on extend Revis' contract....

I don't buy the excuse against a wounded Denver defense in the 2013 AFC Championship Game this past season.

I think our offense was much more wounded than the DEN defense, at least in terms of important positions. We had no receiving game whatsoever, which is just one of the reasons why an important player like Amendola only received ONE target. I think they covered those limited options pretty well.

Our defense was also more wounded than Denver's defense as well. The entire team was just one, basic, walking wounded unit. That they made it to the championship game speaks volumes on just how awful the AFC was in comparison to the NFC.

We had no business being in the AFCCG last year other than the fact it was a huge down year for the AFC overall. I was quite proud of our team last year, I know others around here were proud too. Now, I don't like to grade on a curve but we were missing 4-6 Pro Bowlers while some teams in the NFL don't have any Pro Bowlers. We completely overachieved given everything that happened in the off season and during the regular season. Eventually, we met up with a team that wasn't overachieving and had we somehow gotten by them, we probably didn't stand a chance against SF or Seattle.

Needless to say, I'm far more optimistic about this season because our defense looks promising. I'm still concerned as heck about our WRs/TEs, though.

Last year's playoffs were the first time in a while where I went in with a "just enjoy the ride" attitude because I knew that the chances they were going to make it to the big game were slim and that, even if they did, they would get waxed by the NFC. I have to say that it was a bit more enjoyable as compared to recent years. Still kind of sucked in the end but if you expected that piece meal team to actually beat whomever came out of the NFC, you were out of your mind. The bad news is that the NFC again looks absolutely stacked this year. The good news is that the Pats actually have a defense to compete with them and their road there is helped by the fact that they play in the AFC. :)

It was a poor game by his standards. That miss to Edelman early on was huge and should really be magnified as more than just 'one of the 5 bad passes'. That one really hurt and may as well have been classified as a turnover because it did cost us points. And as bad as our defense was you can never say for sure, but maybe we don't have to surmount such a huge lead if he converted that.

A turnover is much worse than a missed throw. At least the Patriots were still able to keep the ball and drive down the field (until an offensive pass interference got called a couple of plays afterwards). A turnover would've killed any chance of continuing that drive.

Also, I can't place that game with Brady's undeniably bad games (all of which have involved multiple picks on much more talented teams offensively--like vs. the Ravens in both the 2012 and 2013 AFCCG). While clearly not at his best, Brady hung in tough, and was one of the few players in that game to actually compete until the (bitter) end. Sorry, but I can't call that a bad game.

Compare that with Manning's performance vs. Seattle, where he essentially threw in the towel by halftime.
