Daxton Swanson a possibile UDFA on the 53

It'll be tough to find room at corner this year but I hope he does.

I think its Daxton. With Browner starting off not counting for a roster spot for 4 weeks, it is possible for a CB to stick. We have Dennard only now returning to practice from offseason surgery.

I could see them keeping 5 CBs initially, plus Browner who won't count against the 53-man limit:
Revis, Ryan, Arrington, Dennard, <open spot> plus Browner.

We also have Justin Green as a holdover from last year who was a special teams contributor.

i would much prefer if we had some great LB or DE standing out considering how set we are at Corner. But teams always need depth

I think that both positions (LB and DL) should look much better this year due to health alone.

I get the fact that you want a pass rushing specialist though. I do think that we'll be seeing plenty of pressure due to several different aspects, which include the return to health, better talent overall, and the fact that the secondary should buy us that extra .05 second that is often needed.

The "unofficial" depth chart shows him at safety, which makes a lot more sense and raises his odds of sticking with the team for at least the first month.

Why do you feel that listing him as a Safety raises his odds of sticking?

As opposed to the position of CB, which we all originally thought--since there seems to be quite a logjam there to begin with.

The position of safety is much more wide open in my opinion. We have McCourty, Harmon, maybe ONE of Wilson/Chung, or TWO of Wilson/Chung/Ebner.

If I were trying out for a position on the NEP at the moment, I'd immediately mold myself into a safety to raise my odds of making the club ;)

The Browner 4 game suspension aspect may also come into play for the first month, since we are now technically keeping 54. That may add to an outsider having a better shot as well.

For the record, I still think the odds of him making the club are slim, but some of the above factors may help in raising his odds a bit. Of course, he'll have to show up in TC/preseason to even have a shot.

I suppose, though I'm generally not a fan of 5'10/180# Safeties.

Of course--but I was just pointing out that the unofficial depth chart had him as a safety. Whether that helps his cause or not is anyone's guess. He'd have to stand out in a positive way, so we're getting way ahead of ourselves.

My original comments were in response to a poster who was talking about his chances at CB, which is why I brought it up in the first place.

EDIT: He was right around 186 at the combine, so it's certainly plausible to think that he's closer to 190-195 at the moment.

Don't get me wrong, I would like to see him make the initial 53 (at least ahead of the awful Justin
Green) while Browner is suspended. I've barely heard his name mentioned since TC started though,
so the rest of this week is important to his re-establishing of the momentum he started at OTAs.

I don't particularly care one way or another to be honest. I was just pointing out the possibility (in my opinion) that he may have a bit of a better chance if the unofficial depth chart is true and he's really in the mix at safety, as opposed to CB--where he'd never make it.

According to Mike Reiss and others, it's Malcolm Butler who is sticking out at CB among the newbies, even to the point that Butler got reps across from Revis in place of Browner against Washington. It's only training camp so we will see, but keep Butler's name in mind.
