Redskins beat guy Rich Tandler has a wrap-up, complete with a few nice video clips:

Notable quote:

So all of the outside observers are saying they see starting quality in Mallett, while the local beat guys WHO ARE USED TO WATCHING TOM BRADY LEAD PRACTICE dismiss him as inconsistent. Just food for thought. ;)

Again, though.... I've seen Mallett play, as has pretty much everyone who posts here. He's not shown NFL starter talent prior to this training camp (And he didn't show it on Friday, either, for example). That's just reality. If he's showing it right now, it's because of a big jump since last year.

Indeed, the difference between "not being Brady" and "not being an NFL starter" is a gap a million miles wide.

It also needs to be remembered that Mallett will always have a better, but more inconsistent arm than Brady so the difference will seem wider as the positives and negatives of each are different.

If you take a look at Brady's completion percentage last season to players not named Edelman, Amendola, Vereen, and Gronkowski it was under 50%.

I suspect the same would be true of any QB in the history of the NFL. Exclude passes to their top 4 receivers and their completion rate is under 50%. I mean, if you are even throwing to somebody other than your first four options, something has gone wrong -- either injuries or plays that are breaking down.

Saying someone is a starting QB doesn't have to mean they are going to the pro bowl. When I am living in a world where Chad Henne and Ryan Fitzpatrick are starting next season, it isn't a jump to say Mallet could do a job for a team

I think he has, he's just been inconsistent but that's going to happen when you barely play for 4 years.

Village Idiot Ben Volin thinks the fact that the Patriots haven't re-signed him shows what they think of him . . . maybe Mallett actually wants to play next year ?

Mallet and Kirk Cousins were considered the top 2 backup QBs in NFL, I understand it was expected some kind of attention and comparison.

As I've said more than once: if Mallett is willing to bide his time here and wait for Brady to "age out" of being the starter, he shouldn't be re-signed in the first place.

The $ the Pats would have to give Mallett to make up for the fact that he would have little chance of starting would make it to prohibitive to be of any value. They're not going to pay Mallett $3M–$5M a year to sit on the bench.

BTW: in the "running back" drills, the first "running back" up is rookie LB Taylor McCuller.

Practice report from the Redskins side - Brady and Patriots giving them a good dose of the hurry up!

Also included a nice video from todays practice featuring Brady.

That's a big deal imo. Last season the Patriots had to take the NASCAR offense out of the playbook because they didn't have the experience at the skill positions to execute it, if they can bring that ability back to their offense this season it will radically improve their overall performance and their ability to dictate the plays and tempo to opposing defenses.

I hope so, but in fact, last season we lost Woodhead, Welker, Hernandez, players that played a big hole in this type of offense. Even Brandon Lloyd who caught the system pretty quickly was part of that in 2012.

I don't know if we have the personnel to bring back that up tempo.

I certainly would be a little bit hesitant to back Mallet as the start of the Patriots, but compared to some of the sloppy joes starting in the NFL, maybe he is good enough to start somewhere.

Man Arby's is delicious, 20 years ago they had some franchises here in brazil, but then I believe they gave up. KFC too, It was my favorite when I was a kid, they jump out of the market for years but thanks god they are back.

As JMC noted, Pats beat guys are not agreeing. I'm reading that Mallett was inconsistent again and was intercepted multiple times.

Which "Pats beat guys"? Jeff Howe seems to agree with Mayock..
