Rodney Holds the Pats Accountable

Harrison is one of the biggest pro patriots homers out there.
He says critical things, but it isn't because he's spiteful, or wants to make Brady look bad; he says them because that's his actual opinion; and he is also hoping the Patriots win multiple more superbowls.

Sure, if Tyree didn't make that catch, the game is over; but you could say that for about 40 other snaps in the game; Harrison did almost everything, short of deflecting the ball he could to prevent the catch; that was just really bad look. And Harrison himself has said that catch gave him nightmares for years -- I bet he was much harder on himself than he deserved. And the offense -- for having their worst performance of the season -- deserves a ton of blame to that game.

Maybe there should be a subforum on here that is only 'everything in this subforum must be positive' for the people who are hating on Harrison for believing the Patriots have been missing the attitude/leadership

lol Eli sighting

Edit: lol @ wrong thread

Anyway, I think Rodney played awesome football for us and he's an all time fav but you can't deny he's looked a little too cozy with Dungy and saying things like "Take off the skirt" when Ravens are diving at Brady's knees.

The guy has talked some trash.

Or if Samuel had tried for the INT.
Or if Hobbs covered Burress.
Or if Marooney didn't suck - 14 carries for 36 yds = 2.6 yac

You mean they were puxxies?

Let's not forget the antonio Brown helmet catch in the playoffs against the Ravens.

I haven't read the other posts, but this seems like bulletin type material that this team will use just like in the early SB winning years. And I think they will use it for motivation to getting to the SB and winning

This gif cuts off before it shows him juggling with two hands after landing.

But let's call it the shoulder pad catch.

What? He never juggled with two hands. He never went to the ground.

So that's two freaky one-hand catches between 2007 and 2013 that involved the helmet and/or shoulder pads.

Get what I'm trying to get at?

I understand your point just fine. You said:

Can you please show me another play where a NFL player has caught a ball with just one hand and a helmet.

I did that.

The Burress TD is not on Hobbs. You can't expect a smurf DB with a groin injury to cover a 6'5" receiver with a SB on the line. That blitz was absolutely asinine.

Oh god yes. :( To this day I would love to know what the hell was going through Bill's head on that one. You have a injured smurf against a tall receiver. The line of scrimmage was close enough to the goalline that no matter what it was not going to be a long-developing play -- hence almost impossible for any blitz to get there. And that's exactly what happened. Manning took the snap, took a quick drop, and fired the fade. Even that Giants' defense that day would not have gotten to Brady on that play if NE had been the team on offense.

It's a puzzle I will never figure out.

Yes, you did, you showed me another play, so that's a total of 2 freak play in a period of 6 years, meaning, they don't happen often. And when they do, they're usually considered 'pure luck.'

The point being, judging Rodney's career on just one freak play is just a little too judgmental to me.

LOL at people blaming Rodney for that play...

1. The coverage was as tight as one could expect on that play, considering Rodney was picking up Asante's man.

2. Asante was the main culprit there. He gave up on the play.

3. That play should have been blown dead for "in the grasp" (though I can't fault the refs too much for not calling this and simply letting them play. This forum would have went into a nuclear meltdown if the roles were reversed and they called "in the grasp" on the Pats).

And judging the Patriots success on the outcome of that freak play is equally judgmental, which appears to be what Rodney is doing. Undo the Tyree catch + Welker drop and we have two more SBs, it's that simple. I'm not sure what Rodney is harping on. This team competes, it's always there in the end every year. It just hasn't worked out.

Sample size is small in a 60 minute game, and one play can be the difference. All you can do is hope you get enough cracks at it so things even out and you win your share.

I'm not sure what Rodney is harping on.

I think all Rodney is doing is lighting a fire under the feet of this team, and as a fan I'd thank him for that. Yes, this team does compete, but I'd think every bit helps, especially accountability held to a high standard.

It's not cheap. Harrison wants to continually run his mouth about the Pats not winning another SB then i'm gonna state a fact. Everyone talks about how Harrison was so great and physical, he got out-muscled by a JAG that caught it with his helmet. It's not attacking everything else he did with the Pats. It's just a fact.
Actually Rodney tried to make a play and by doing so he let Tyree have a softer landing than he would. Just look at the film. Had Rodney not tried to make the play, Tyree would have landed hard and probably dropped the ball dropped.Rodney had his arm under the ball as they were going down, he didn't get out muscled. No objective person can blame Rodney for trying to make the play.

It's silly blaming Rodney for that helmet catch or anyone for that matter. Tyree made an unreal play.

Not silly on Patsfans.com. I guess it's easier to shoot the messenger than to actually know who to blame on that play.

I don't see it as blaming Rodney, I see it the same way I would see it if Welker made a comment about the Patriots needing to win another SB because they hadn't closed the deal in recent opportunities, like Rodney he had a chance to seal the deal and shouldn't be the one calling them out for not doing so. The Patriots lost that SB because the Giants outplayed them that day, period, it was a team loss by any measure.

The bolded is correct correct, but Rodney did everything he could to try to break up that pass. Considering Tyree wasn't his man in the first place, that he was even in position to try to make that play is impressive enough. Samuel not only quit on the play, but still had a chance to lower his shoulder and BLAST Tyree, which should have been enough to dislodge the ball. He failed to do that. That play is on Samuel, not on Rodney. The loss itself can mostly be blamed on Nick Kaczur and the injury to Neal on the OL. Kaczur, in particular, was getting beaten like a rented mule as soon as Neal went down.
