Where does Revis anticipation rank among other big pickups?

How can you leave Rodney Harrison off the list? Revis is up with Rodney, Moss Dillon & Washington for me in terms of anticipation.

I agree with that, the Pats more than likely do not win a superbowl that year, without him.

Also, if you recall, BB badly wanted to shift to a 3-4 base (Seymour had played some nose before) and was trying to sell the story that Rick Lyle or Jarvis Green could be fine at NT because of technique (remember?).

Probably the biggest bit of hogwash he ever tried to sell to look positive. Of course when his buddy Colangelo showed interest in letting Washington go, BB was all over that like white on rice.

Surprised that Rodney Harrison was left off the list. Rodney completely revitalized the secondary with his hard-hitting style.

Moss and then Dillon for me. Andre Carter was a signing I loved a lot. I had a very good feeling about that one. Loved that it worked out for him with New England, even if he was at the end of his career.

It's hard for anyone here to say Revis for one big reason: We are looking at every other player in retrospect. Revis could ultimately be more looked at by everyone as their most 'anticipated' signing in a few years if he is a super star for the Patriots.

Rodney was once one of my favorite all time Patriots and it saddens me to almost feel like we need to take away his Pats card for being an anti-Patriot #&^@*%* on television like it would further his broadcasting career or something. Guy sounds like a NY shill now, and he's taken a lot of shots and said some pretty stupid things.

His declaring Eli the best QB in the league was blatant Brady trolling.

You disappoint me, Rodney. You disappoint me.

Rodney sure looked at home tonight , hob nobbing on the sideline with Brady and the rest of the alums and Krafty Bob

Revis has a ton of well deserved hype. A player that can re-define the team. Give it swagger, once again.

I don't remember Moss coming in here and people saying: "Finally we might have a great offense!" I think more than a few thought he would be a huge distraction and he was washed up. (In restrospect, OMG!!! What a fricken amazing athlete#$#**!*!!!)

Revis changed the identity of the team without playing a single game. This is a defense-wins team now. (And, oh yea, we have that Brady guy too.)

I'm part of the few that was more excited for Dillon than Moss. If you combined the 03 secondary, with a healthy Law, with the 04 offense, that would have been the perfect team.

The thing with Colvin and Harrison, was if you remember, they where both signed within a 24-48 hour span. So it was more a 2 for 1 package.

With that, Revis tops them all. Revis is ELITE. Revis is the Brady of CB's. He's that damn special.

I left Rodney Harrison off the list because the signing was relatively quiet. I don't think many people saw him as more than a solid veteran player when he came here. He would rank in the top 3 if we were talking about the best free agent pickups, but this is a list of the most hyped, for better or worse.

Moss - 1a; Revis - 1b

For me, it's slightly behind Moss in 2007 and slightly ahead of Dillon in 2004. It's been so long since this team has had a true, shut down #1 corner that the anticipation is at crazy levels. Moss wins out because that was the first time that Brady was given a legitimate GOAT canidate to throw to at pretty much every level of the field.

I put it right there with Moss. Moss was a little more exciting because it is so obvious with a great dominant WR what they are bringing to the game, with Revis it is much more subtle but could very well lead them to a top scoring defense, and Brady with a top 5 scoring defense is going to be a b.tch to beat.

When moss came here i went nuts. Same with Dillion. I expected great things and we got it. I expect the same this year

I could argue RH was the best FA pickup in franchise history.

If we based this on national sports media coverage Revis probably wouldn't even crack the top 3 of most hype Pats pick ups. That's how much for whatever reason it hasn't really been hyped by the national media.

But yet according to them DeMarcus Ware was the defensive prize in FA.

Hmmm wonder why that is.

Yeah, I'd have to say that this pretty much sums it up for me.

Yeah. It splashed and fizzled really quickly. I think it's probably because it always seems like no matter what moves they make, good or bad, the Patriots are right there in the end. They're always in the AFCCG. They're always in the hunt. Whether it's Chad Ochowhatever or Haynesworth or Moss or Dillon, they thrive. Covering the Patriots must seem so routine and mundane to the national media. There's no intrigue unless there's scandal (i.e. Hernandez, Sygate, etc).

It probably also has to do with the fact that Revis is not a personality. He doesn't come with excessive baggage, an over-the-top persona, any crazy soundbites throughout his career, etc. He quietly goes out there and silences the other team's best perimeter player. He'll move inside and do it too. He's the Eraser and, just like the movie of the same name, he's usually the guy you never see or here from. If you do, that means he didn't do the job right.

Oh, and I know Ware has been great and all, but this guy is not going to have nearly the impact for the Broncos as Revis, who is entering his prime, should have for NE.

Media has no credibility. Anyone who takes their criticism to heart or their praise to their heads is doing it wrong. Being realistic or credible isn't a good ratings driver, which is why it'll focus so much time on trolling Tony Romo, Tebowmania, QB competitions between the likes of Geno Smith and Mark Sanchez.

BSPN and the NFL Network are by and large `The View` or Maury Pauvich for day time television watching sports fans.

What creates a bigger buzz? Evaluating Brady's all time greatness or saying he's over rated and no longer a top 5 quarterback?

Trash television sells. It's just the unfortunate reality of our culture.

It's TMZ.

If Revis was telling reporters "I'M COMING FOR THE JETS! GONNA' THUMP THOSE BOYS!" then he would be all over the net works and it would be 24/7 Patriot coverage, and the Revis hype train would be firing on all cylinders. They need pro football to be pro wrestling in the off season or else they'd have a hard time existing.

YUP. We're pretty much in agreement from different angles. There's no buzz with the Pats. They're mundane. They work in unison. They choose to be introduced as a team. They just don't abide by the status quo world of divas and "have it my way" starts. They just do things the right way . . . like the Spurs.lol Even after they won the championship, the media was talking nothing but Miami Heat and Lebron.

In a vey guarded way, I am more filled with anticipation for Revis than any other acquisition of the BB era. I still have many of those "...Wow, Revis is a Patriot ... somebody pinch me" moments. Revis comes without baggage and is at what should be a prime age; I envision an unlimited ceiling ... but am still ... guarded.

Why "guarded?? In the word of Inigo Montoya, let me 'splain:

The last player about whom I truly felt this was Adalius Thomas. I thought — prime years guy, amazing talent, no known baggage ... wow. Well, he had some moments here but ultimately was a disappointment, and he seems to have been part of the cancer that spread through the locker room in 2009. I would be shocked if Revis let us down, but ... anything can happen.

Moss and Dillon both came with a ton of baggage and questions. They delivered in a big way and became the poster children for Bill Belichick's Reputation Football Reputation Rehab Clinic. Ochocinco and Haynesworth — they just followed in the footsteps of Dillon and Moss, coming here as big name baggage/rehab curiosities, but never worked out the same way. Colvin — great team guy but the hip injury held him back.

Finally, there's Rodney. Since we're talking about anticipation — which means pre-season hopes — who here was not thrilled at the potential of a Milloy-Rodney safety tandem? Wow. Now that I think about it — Rodney was one of those Football Image Rehab guys, the precursor to Moss and Dillon. IIRC, there wasn't a hot market for Rodney when he signed here; the Rodney-Milloy fantasy came with some ifs ... and "if Milloy is still with the team" was not on of them!

Guess that's my bottom line: A lot of the "name" signings came with "ifs." Among them, Rodney, Dillon and Moss met our dreams; Ochocinco and Haynewsorth not so much. The only two guys who I felt didn't come with "ifs" were AD and Revis. Hopefully the latter makes up for the former.
