Should the Pats bring in Barry Sanders for a look?

LOl lol hwc.:D:D

Worth a look? Or too many negative plays? Discuss amongst yourselves.

Fer christsakes..

Have you seen this guy play?!?

I don't know. Sanders does an awful lot of dancin' and jukin' and spinnin' behind the line of scrimmage. I bet he gets dropped for a loss fairly regularly with all that hot doggin'. You can't win playoff games that way.

You asked people to stop talking about him in the T.C. thread. We honored your request, and this is how you respond?

Ok....

Even at his current age he may be the best RB on the roster.

Context please. What am I missing ? Is this another Seward-type mockumentary ?

Per peoples' request, I stopped in that thread.

No one said Barry wasn't great. There has also never been a running back more entertaining to watch. That said, it was a discussion about the relative importance of long runs compared to consistently getting good chunks of yards and minimizing negative plays. Barry Sanders was used an an example.

Having a flaw in one's game doesn't mean one is not great. Imagine how much more dominating Sanders would have been if he significantly reduced his negative plays.

Here is an interesting question to ponder. How much would BB be willing to pay a "Barry Sanders in his prime" in today's NFL? How would BB use him?

In the modern NFL, a good passing game has a much better chance to make big plays than even the greatest backs have to make big runs. In the modern NFL, a running game needs to have a high YPC while minimizing short or no gains. This type of running extends drives, burns time, tires out the defense and opens up the passing game. Long runs are fantastic, but are not as important as consistency.

The OFFICIAL 2014 Training Camp thread got segued into a discussion of RBs making long gainer plays vs consistent short yardage and then into Barry Sanders as an example. The OP asked for that discussion there to end and to return to training camp posts.

Sorry. It's the second major thread jack of training camp discussions -- fat loss in one and Barry Sanders in another. I'm all for those discussions (personally, I've lost and kept off 90 pounds), but page after page after page of thread jack on threads that are already really long to wade through (like an OFFICIAL TRAINING CAMP THREAD) is so frustrating.

I'm just trying to help out by creating a place to discuss Barry Sanders (and every other retired running back) people would like to discuss.

The thing about an OFFICIAL TRAINING CAMP THREAD is that if someone wants to catch up after being away for day, it's going to require leafing thru dozens of pages. Now, add a couple dozen pages of arguing about Barry Sanders....

Um, roster is 90. Don't give him a signing bonus, just a roster bonus. Seriously, see if my dead grandma has anything left.

It was quite clearly the thought of playing against Adam Seward sometime in the future that caused Barry to retire.

I think the Pats should bring Barry in, but also bring Adam in and convert him to a Center.
Barry will get 200 yards a game at least.
All will be fantastic as the Pats motor to Phoenix.

Speaking of Adam for all the SOFs(Seward only fans) out there.
I am reading he is a Chinese-language football analyst for NFL games in The People's Republic of China.
