7/30....and this is another reason why retirement doesn't suck (most of the time)

I looked back at the chats that estimated the final roster and his name is not included in the ones I scanned.

That's okay, Jack. You'll find mixed messages in both the camp reports (who was "good," and who was "bad" for the day) from the beat writers, as well as different people's projections for their personal 53 man roster.

From what I've seen though, many have been including all 3 rookie OL--but not everyone. There are some who believe that only 2/3 will make it.

Great stuff Ken - your most engaging camp report so far!

Loving the stuff on the LBers in coverage - if things fall into place we could have a very nice back 7 in terms of coverage.

It could have been a very dark day for us if a Jet fan had gotten a Tomahawk missile and a laser targeting devise, because during a kicking game portion of the practice, the Gronk, Brady, Revis and BB were working together again for about 10 minutes on a back field.
Nah, he would've shot himself in the ass.

Patfanken, how has Hightower looked to you on pass rush 1on1s?
I think Hightower is having a great camp on all fronts now that the Pats have seemingly moved him to OLB. It is interesting that when the Pats are in a 3-4 as they've been a lot the last 2 days, he plays the Sam, while when they are in a 4-3 he's playing the Will.

As to your direct question, I haven't seen him get a lot of reps rushing the passer, but those I have have, have been good. There have also been reports from guys like Reiss and Volin who concur (for what its worth.

He's going into his 3rd year and is now very comfortable in the defense. He's playing positions more compatible with his skill set, and the players around him are much better. All these things point to Hightower having a very nice season. I even think he looks quicker in coverage this year, though with all the DB's and coverage LB's on the roster, I doubt we will need him much in that role.

Ken, I would hope that you do not mind but I have been tweeting links to your reports.
Why would I mind? Thanks. Though I have to admit I haven't come that far technologically to actually be on twitter. ;)

Your face is one that only a mother could love.

(rimshot) ;)

What’€™s online, you should go talk to the geniuses that are online. I don’€™t know. MyFace, YourFace, InstantFace. Go talk to whoever you want that does that stuff. I don’€™t know."

Yup, you're definitly thinking of thinking of YourFace.. ;)

That's actually me in my avatar with the old Ty Law jersey on.

Why are you sitting on your ..oh never mind. ;)

I apologize Patfanken for this juvenile and ahem, temporary derailing of your wonderful thread.

If anybody here knows about straddling the LB/safety distinction, it's Ken. :)

Thanks for the updates!!

Great work Ken. No worries about the Jets shooting a Tomahawk at us. If they did, it would probably hit one of their o-linemen in the ass and fumble to the ground.

3. I can't say enough how good Jamie Collins is in coverage. I'm talking DB good. In a drill between LB's and RB's and TE's he got 2 reps, and in both occasions not only had tight coverage, but was in good enough position to get a hand on the ball. BTW- we aren't talking about easy flat routes here, but routes with double and triple moves in space.

Collins got some national media attention for his performance in practice today:

New England Patriots' second-year linebacker Jamie Collins put on a show with his coverage skills in Wednesday's practice in full pads. The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Collins broke up two passes and shut down most every running back and tight end he matched up with during practice.

I'm a big Fleming fan, I have him making the roster. I liken him to Rob Ninkovich when he first signed here.

I'm guessing that all 3 rookie OL will make the roster, but that's obviously just a guess.

Just out of curiosity, what similarities do you see between Ninkovich and Fleming? Are you speaking of underdogs, work ethic, etc?

I wasn't sure, since there was discussion at the top of the page, along with the last page regarding our OL situation.

Thanks though, if true.

Two Flemings is going to become even more confusing than two C. Joneses on the defensive line.

Spot on Ken, as usual.

Sat in the stands yesterday amongst a lot of moms, dads and their kids.. love to hear the kids talk about what they are seeing.. "They already had tryouts this is the team", "Where's Gronk?", "Where's Brady?", "Is it time for autographs yet?", but very little whining or complaining in general.. Mr. Kraft is developing a fan base for the future..

Couple of comments..

The defense looks very good, sometimes I forget how many really good d players we have on this team, J. Anderson does not get a lot of press, but is impressive on the field.

Brandon Bolden's green shoes stick out..

Garapolo is always out there first throwing, as was Tebow, but does not get a lot of reps when it seems to count in practice.. Brady 1st, Mallett 2nd and Jimmy G. very sloppy 3rds if any..Seems as though all these drills were designed for 2 qb's...
