I would've been happy with a few other guys, but getting a guy like Easley, who can set a bomb off in the Offensive BackField on any given Play, offers, I believe, the greatest Impact.

His disruptive, terrifying Presence makes all other Defenders ~ all 10 of them ~ far more Dangerous.

I knew absolutely nothing about Easley and now I'm excited that the Pats got him. I can't wait to see him in action.

For this draft, it really becomes all about Easley and White.

We all know and hope the QB sits for 3 plus years. We traded our third, best move of the weekend by BB and the rest of the draft is huge camp battles at OL, DE and DB.

So really how much Easley and White play and contribute will be the story of this draft for 2014, unless one of the rookie O lineman wins the starting job and over performs. (ie: Stork becomes this year's Frederick)

If 100% healthy, I like the idea of Easley being a third down 3 technique pass rusher. (Especially against Denver)

As for White, he has a chance to win the kick returner job and contribute in a rotation in the base offense, if he can pick up the blitz.

#29 ~ Wolf Dominique Easley ~ Florida Panthers ~ 6015/285

Yeah, Dominique Easley is of course a SuperBinky of mine.

He's just preposterously disruptive. His combination of Launch Velocity, Combat Tactics, Fluidity, and what most people would consider shocking Power allow him to rain Chaos and Destruction wherever he goes.

And he is far, far Stouter than many are willing to believe. Core Power is far more crucial than simply being huge.

The Game, as I once scribbled, is constantly changing, and Defenses are being compelled to get smaller and faster.

Will Sutton, who I wrote up yesterday, Aaron Donald, who I wrote up the day before, and Dominique Easley are at the very crest of the New Wave of Defensive Tackles, and those who recognize their potentially chaotic Impact on Offensive BackFields and seize their services will reap an enormous Strategic Advantage.

Easley is of course recovering from his second ACL Injury, which will both impact his Impact ~ because he probably won't recover his full explosiveness until 2015 ~ and his Risk/Reward Ratio. Otherwise, I'd go Top 10 with this guy.

#62 ~ QuarterBack Jimmy Garoppolo ~ Eastern Illinois Panthers ~ 6021/222

I still love Jimmy Garoppolo, and will root for'm with all my heart. And I believe that he's got the Talent and the Intelligence to succeed at The Next Level. But I believe that I have been guilty of egregiously overrating his Prospects while foolishly discounting the difficulties he faces. Well, I've been cured of my Fever, so to speak.

And this extraordinary Article by the incredibly insightful Matt Waldman is why.

Jimmy Garoppolo is one of the most intriguing Prospects of this Draft. His Mechanics need work, how far he can develop his FirePower Potential is uncertain, he often tweaks out for no reason, and his Game in General is a bit raw…

But in the Short & MidRange Game, his is already impressive, and he's demonstrated phenomenal Accuracy & Precision in Moving The Chains ~ sometimes in Big Gulps ~ and he is blessed both with impressive Processing Speed and, despite somewhat raw Mechanics, an absolutely stunningly rapid Delivery. And he spreads the Ball around.

That last cannot be overestimated in its Importance: Garappolo is one of the most convincing Play Fakers in this Class, and he includes the entire Roster in'is Receiver Arsenal. That speaks volumes to me.

He's a Student of the Game who listens to his Coaches and actually does The Little Things that help win Games.

He Uses The Whole Pig.

Even so, his Pocket Poise give me grave doubts about his Capacity to excel at The Next Level.

#140 ~ Offensive Tackle Cameron Fleming ~ Stanford Cardinal ~ 6050/324

Cameron Fleming's Stock has been roaring and soaring, and when that happens at this late stage in the Draft process, that means that actual Scouts ~ as opposed to some Jack@$$ scribbling away on'is Blog ~ are letting the Writers all around the League and its periphery know that the guy is a far better Prospect than they'd thought.

In other words: When it happens now, it's not "Draftnick" Speculation.

It's the guys who actually earn their livings doing this that are driving the Price.

So that's why I can only chalk it up to inexperience and good old fashioned stupidity when I say that I'm just not seeing what warrants the recent rapid ascension in Cameron Fleming's Stock. All I'm seeing is a big guy who's a bit stiff and lumbers around a great deal. I don't see much Power, any Launch Velocity, impressive Combat Skills, or even an especially ferocious demeanor. I just see a guy who may or may not be able to hack it at Right Tackle or Guard.

I'm not saying he's deficient in any category, mind you, except, in my perception, for Agility.

He can probably compete, and perhaps earn a starting gig for several Years.

I just don't see the rationale for his Stock to be roaring and soaring as it has been.

But that's probably on me, to be perfectly frank.

I have much to learn.

Work the numbers any way you like.

I don't care.

Jeremy Gallon is a boiling, bubbling Tasmanian Devil ~ a moderately agile Talent with ridiculous Core Power, tremendous Intelligence, an incredible Work Ethic, phenomenal Instincts, and voracious, insatiable Drive.

This is a Dwarf...But he is a Dwarf that you can leave in for all 3 Downs...and feel damned good about so doing.

Jeremy Gallon will Move The Chains relentlessly, he will make Plays catching the Ball, he will humiliate guys 100 Pounds heavier when he blocks them ~ a la MoJo Drew ~ he will take punishment and immediately come right back at the guy dishing it out and embarrass him...And he will do all this doubly so when it counts most. This is a Money Player, gentlemen...A guy you want on the Field in January: When The Only Games That Really Matter are played.

He'll produce. Through thick. And through thin.

Roy Finch is flying several thousand miles Under The Radar.

There were whispers, a Year ago, and often requoted, that he wasn't putting in the Work to better'mself.

S'far's I can tell, that all derived from a vague comment from his OC, back in September of 2012, that may or may not've impugned Finch's Work Ethic. There's certainly no question that he was BlackBalled in 2012, when he accumulated a total of 9 Touches, after racking up 145 the Year before.

The question is: why?

Frankly, I'm thinking it's probably Much Ado About Nothing. The very same OC had nothing but praise for Finch, this Autumn. Finch only recovered a fraction of the Market Share he'd held in his explosive 2011 Campaign, mind you, but the Sooner BackField has been loaded. They may simply have changed their Strategic Approach.

Until I read damning Testimony about any current doubts about'm, he's squeaky clean as far as I'm concerned.

...Which leaves us his Play on the Field of Battle.

And there, my friends, Roy Finch is a dangerous, dynamic, explosive Storm.

He's a Threat to Break It All The Way on every single Play...and, far more crucially for those silly Fools who happen to be more focused on winning Games & Championships than on SportsCenter Splashes, he's astonishingly Powerful for such a short guy. You can definitely run this guy Between The Tackles ~ in Zone & Spread, mind you!! ~ and actually harbor a reasonable expectation of Success!! And that means that as a FlexWing, who is of course most effective In Space, he's a threat along the entire Line of Scrimmage.

And that renders'm, for an OC who's wise enough to unleash Finch's extraordinary and startlingly broad Capabilities, the kind of Threat that keeps entire Defenses guessing...and keeps them on their Heels.

#169 to the Eagles for #198 & GD Isaac Sopoaga ~ This Trade didn't work out, and I would certainly criticize the Patriots for letting Defensive Tackle run so foolishly thin ~ and I had in fact done so for consecutive Years before the fact ~ but giving up a Round without giving up a Pick for a solid Veteran Grizzly isn't a move that I can really fault them for.

#93 to the Jaguars for #105 & #179 ~ A Solid Trade, in my Opinion. The Book Value on this suggests that we got hosed, but of course the classic Trade Chart is only intended as a Reference Point. Picking up a juicy 6th Rounder or moving back a dozen spots seems like a strong move to me, though I personally would've Held Pat.

Draft Picks

#29 ~ WD Dominique Easley ~ Blue Chip Beast Bargain. I would warn my Fellow Patriots Fans about expecting all too much from Easley in 2014, mind you: Not only will he be a Rookie, but he'll be working through one of what I like to call Take It Through The Gears Years because of the ACL. But he is an exceptional Value at #29, as I see it.

#62 ~ QB Jimmy Garappolo ~ OverValued, I believe. I remain a big Fan of his, but believe that there is great reason for concern about his Pocket Presence, and consider him a Lottery Pick and 4th/5th Round Value.

#105 ~ OC Bryan Stork ~ OverValued, in my Perception, but they have a good chance of getting good Value out'f this Pick. I'm not a Fan either of Stork's Power or his Agility, and consider'm a Contender and 4th/5th Rounder, but in all Fairness to'm, I'm highly impressed both by'is Motor and his Field Vision. He's got a very real chance to Start.

#130 ~ XB James White ~ Perfect Par Value, in my Opinion. White doesn't strike me as especially Explosive or Powerful, but he is a smart kid with a strong Motor, brings considerable flexibility, and should become a reliable Reserve.

#140 ~ OT Cameron Fleming ~ Par Value. I'm not a big fan, and I'm amused that my 4th/5th Round Grade proved far more accurate than the General Consensus, but even that may've been pushing it. There is just not much about his Agility or Power that I like, and his Mechanics need a lot of work, too. Decent Value for a 5th Rounder, I suppose.

#179 ~ OG Jon Halapio ~ SemiSleeper. Halapio doesn't exhibit much Agility on Tape, and his Health is a concern, but his Power is outstanding, and I love his Motor. I gave'm a 4th/5th Round Grade. Definite Starter Potential.

#198 ~ DD Zach Moore ~ Sleeper!! I couldn't find enough Tape to justify a Scouting Report on this kid, so this is extremely speculative, but people I respect have good things to say about'm, and I get a very strong impression of an Agile and motivated Prospect who could, in time, make an Impact far in excess of your average 6th Rounder.

#206 ~ CF Jemea Thomas ~ Par Value. My impression ~ I only scouted'm lightly ~ is that of a mediocre Athlete but one with exceptional Field Vision. I'd call'm a Reserve CenterFielder and give'm a 6th/7th Round Ranking.

#244 ~ SB Jeremy Gallon ~ SuperSleeper!! A phenomenal Steal at #244. Philosophically, I am dead set against deploying SlotBacks on my Team, but there is, as they say, more'n one way to skin a cat, and if Mad Bill and Tom Brady must have them some SlotBacks, I believe that they just grabbed a 1st Round Talent at the end of the Draft!!

UFA ~ XW Roy Finch ~ SuperSleeper!! A tremendous Steal as a UFA, I believe, as I gave'm a 2nd/3rd Round Grade!!

Always insightful, Brother Grid.

A few thoughts:

- I was probably the biggest Easley proponent on this board prior to the draft, and was absolutely thrilled with that pick. My metric for success in this draft was simple: get one of either Easley or Aaron Donald (very unlikely, even with a huge trade up) and the draft would e a wild success.

- I loved the emphasis on the interior OL, and I'm ok with all of the guys the Pats took, even though I had other guys in mind (Brandon Thomas, John Urschel).

- Like you, I liked the Zach Moore pick (though I had Terrance Fede rated slightly higher). I wasn't keen on the James White pick at the time, but I love the idea of White and Shane Vereen being used at the same time in a "dual flexback" offense.

- I don't mind the Jimmy Garoppolo pick, but it certainly wasn't on my list. I would have taken QB Garrett Gilbert day 3, and used #62 (with a trade back) to take CB Phillip Gaines, who was my top rated CB in the draft, and who I think will be a stud.

- I wanted a big DB with coverage skills, a mobile LB, and a wingback. I had Christian Jones high on my list for a while, but I expected him to fall because of drug test and other issues.

- The guys I was most disappointed on the Pats not getting: DB Antone Exum (the Pats could have had him with the Halapio pick), DB Lonnie Ballentine (Mr. Irrelevant), LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (the Pats could have had him with the White pick), LB Christian Jones (the Pats could have had him at #244 or even as a UDFA), wingback Trey Millard (the Pats could have had him a #244), wingback Gator Hoskins (UDFA), OG Brandon Thomas (the Pats could have had him at #93), OG/C John Urschel (the Pats could have had him at #140) and CB Phillip Gaines (the Pats could have had him at #62, or with a trade back into the early-mid 3rd round). I understand that you can't get everyone, and I'm not upset at who the Pats did get, but some of these guys would really have helped, IMO.

01 ~ Tom Brady will enjoy a spectacular statistical Renaissance.

The braying jackasses of the Media, the vast and overwhelming majority of who, despite the fact that they earn their livings through FootBall, haven't the faintest clue how it works, fail to understand that when you take away Rob Gronkowski, Aaron Hernandez, Wes Welker, Brandon Lloyd's 74 Catches, and Uncanny Danny WoodHead ~ yeah: all 5 of his Top Receivers and every Soul who had more than 21 Catches in 2012 ~ as Tom Brady endured, last Year...well, there's probably gonna be a bit of a statistical DropOff ~ especially when you replace'm all with Rookies!!

The fact that Brady even outperformed Geno Smith under those circumstances is Testimony to his Enduring Greatness.

Well, now Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins are a crucial Year more experienced after being absolutely thrown into the Fire last Year, Josh Boyce will've had two Camps with which to hone his considerable Talent, we've added a second FlexBack in James White, and we've drafted two dynamic receiving Weapons in Jeremy Gallon and Roy Finch.

I'm as big a Critic of Tom Brady as anyone, but the idea that the guy has lost anything off his FastBall after he managed 25 TouchDowns and 4343 Yards with only 11 Interceptions, despite a mediocre Running Game, and after his 5 leading Receivers vaporized...is incalculably preposterous. His Work last Year was nothing short of miraculous.

And I believe that his Work this Year will be monstrous.

02 ~ Our Offense will once again look far better in December than in September.

There are many new Faces joining the interior of the Offensive Line, and a new Offensive Line Coach.

I expect substantial Growing Pains.

But nobody develops his Team better over the course of a 20 Game Season than Bill Belichick.

03 ~ How we'll look in January, however, continues to concern me.

I only pray that the Importation of Beef in the Interior Offensive Line will translate into Smash Mouth FootBall. The drafting of talented but little guys like Gallon and Finch, though, give me serious doubts in that regard. Come January, when Refs tend to pocket their whistles and the Games get a lot more physical...there could be Hell to play.

01 ~ Our Defense is better poised to Ascend to Excellence than at any point since 2004.

Despite the horrific collapse at Defensive Tackle, last Year ~ and in many ways: because of it ~ the Patriots enter 2014 with by far the best Depth of Talent in memory at Defensive Tackle ~ the Heart & Soul of the entire Defense.

I generally consider the Impact of CornerBacks to be vastly overrated...But Darrelle Revis is the Crowning Exception.

Talib was good...But he's no Darrelle Revis.

Between the dramatic Impact of those two Factors and what I believe will be the explosive Ascension of Jamie Collins, I believe that the Patriots Defense is poised, at last, to ascend to Elite Status.

It's just a matter of Health.

Curran was on the radio the other day and theorized that Bill has gotten lazy or too attached to friends of Bill schools such as Florida and Rutgers. Certainly not new ground. It did make me think again just how strange and out of place the Garropolo pick is. I still don't see the second round value. I still would have loved taking a player with a chance to come in and compete and push the starters. To go this high on a QB I have to believe they really see something and I pray they're right.

Regarding Halapio he was hurt most of his senior year. I think you nailed it with health being the major concern. If he's healthy he could have a Mankins type of impact.

01 ~ I certainly agree with you that Curran's comments are worth sharing. I'm sure anyone with a brain cell agrees that Mad Bill's record, taken as an whole, is that of a brilliant Coach and perhaps equally brilliant General Manager. Where our ranks divide, of course, is in that many fans take Admiration way too far and go with blind acceptance of everything he does ~ "In Bill We Trust."

02 ~ I ~ and you, I assume ~ are among those who see no disconnect between admiring the man and critically analyzing his Work. And of course we are all susceptible to the soothing allure of who we know, what we know, and both People & Concepts that we've known for a long time.

03 ~ He's human, of course, and I believe that it is precisely the allure of The Known that is why Mad Bill ~ and most other Coaches ~ run Players into the ground, rather than develop their Benches, which of course entails the Growing Pains associated with developing Talent.

04 ~ Likewise ~ to return to your Point ~ it seems clear to me that the SeaHawks & Miners are revolutionizing the way Rosters are developed, and leaving almost everyone else behind. Coaches & GM's who can't grow beyond their NetWork of Contacts will obviously fade to the back of the pack.

Also with the news this morning about Darious going on the NFI list and his earlier legal troubles this off season and McClain and others also with legal issues and as a whole their players underperforming at the next level you have to wonder if Saban is showing you the best they can be or wearing them out. There's a few nice players in the last 7 years in the top 3 rounds but other than Julio Jones there isn't a star and there's a lot of busts.

He's definitely not as athletic as Mankins however he is every bit as nasty and is as powerful perhaps more so in time. There were other linemen I would have taken as well but he's a boom or bust pick given his injury history which at that point in the draft I'm fine with it. I'm definitely more on board with Halapio than I've been with guys like Ohrnberger.
