OT: FOX ends relationship with WEEI

She is hardly the first media person to be berated on the radio. Joe Buck, Tim McCarver, Dan Deirdorf come to mind as having been quite soundly criticized on the radio - as well as in this forum. Should we treat her any differently because she is a woman, or should we hold her to the same standards?

I agree that she isn't very good and takes away from a broadcast. I don't want her on my TV during a football game either.

However, you equating the rantings of posters on a web forum to the responsibilities of an FCC regulated radio station broadcaster declaring that she is a "*****" who should "drop dead" is a fail.

If anyone here would write such a post in this small web forum that Minihane declared on the public airwaves, that post would be deleted immediately and the poster given an infraction.

But evidently, our standards are higher than WEEI's.

The only in-studio women to whom I would ever bother to listen are, off the top of my head,
Linda Cohn & Hannah Storm. Almost every single one of the newer ones on ALL the networks
(NFLN, MLBN, NHLN, ESPN…) are complete, utter ignorant bimbos. As for the sideline reporters, Michele Tafoya, Andrea Kremer, Suze Kolber & Pam Oliver appear to understand what it is they're covering.
Erin Andrews & her kind are a disgrace to the broadcast profession.

Jackie Mac was good when she was the Celtics beat writer at the Glob;
her Pats "knowledge", however, is just regurgitated Bill-bashing.

Best of the TV reporters and hosts is Kathryn Tappen on NHLN. She worked incredibly hard and taught herself about ice hockey in this market and is as knowledgeable about pro hockey as Kolber, Kremer and Tafoya are about football. There are lots of very solid women sports reporters and studio hosts.

Erin Andrews was a good college basketball sideline reporter and interviewer who the networks promoted out of her element.

Jackie MacMullen is in the Hall of Fame as a sportswriter. None better on pro basketball.

Minihane isn't qualified to carry any of these women's Spanx.

I do not think anyone calls Tavon a ***** and says they hope he dies.

Ya, the internet would go insane if someone did something like that.

It's unprofessional. The people on this board aren't doing their job. There is a big difference between the expectation of a person who is paid to be on a radio station and what is written by a fan using a made up user name in a forum.

If we were all paid I am sure many of us including me would have been fired long ago.

In addition most of us talk about players performances on the field we do not talk about hoping they were died; I never even saw anyone say that about Hernandez.

As noted elsewhere here, Doris Burke is outstanding on basketball, whether pro or college, women or men. The respect she has earned from peers and players is palpable.

Apparently you didn't read my post. I was equating the radio station's comments about Andrews to other, similar criticism they have levied again other broadcasters (and then I briefly also mentioned this fourm).

I'll ask you the same question I asked before: Should people go easier on her because she is a woman, or should they call her out just like they would a man?

He was an idiot for being as insulting as he was, but that does nothing to change the fact that he was completely right: She is a horrible sideline reporter, way out of her league, and her career success is based much more on her good looks than any actual ability. (Plus I think ESPN promoted her to "you can have whatever job you want" after the hotel room video because they were afraid of being sued)

Really? Insulting public or media personalities is against the rules of this forum?

You must be new here or using someone else's log in information. I have seen the most hateful, venomous comments made in this forum to everyone from Mike Florio to Michael Felger to Roger Goodell to anyone who wears green. Considering the rate at which such comments appear, I find it difficult to believe the individuals are being given infractions.

The league that wins the all-star game has home field advantage in the World Series. That is the very opposite of meaningless. Wainwright should have understood that above everyone else, as his Cardinals dealt with the Red Sox in the World Series just last year.

Which is completely meaningless to all but 2 teams in the entire league (which is why it's a really stupid rule, anyways)

The rule was changed by Bud Selig because of 2002 and 2012. The All-Star game is usually fun to watch, but every once in a while, it sucks. This goes for the All-Star games in every major league, but Bud Selig is a terrible commissioner, so we get the rule change. I am not a fan either.

That said, it does matter to more than two teams. It matters to every player on a team that has a chance in October. They don't know who will be playing for a championship. any player that doesn't think it worth the effort because getting to the World Series isn't the easy bet is doing the entire league a disservice.

Home field advantage in baseball can be huge, with teams building their rosters to cater to their own park dimensions and the DH rule in the AL. For the Red Sox, if the NL won, they might have had to juggle the line-up in game six, with Napoli on the bench and Ortiz at first. Ortiz walked every at bat he was up for. Maybe that doesn't happen without Napoli behind him. Who knows? Maybe Wacha pitches better if he's in St. Louis. If they don't win game six, game seven would have also been in St. Louis.

Good discussion on here. Kirk was absolutely wrong with the "gutless *****" and "drop dead" remarks. He apologized on multiple occasions for those comments saying that he was completely out of line. He absolutely was.
However, I have absolutely zero problem with his "15 pounds" comment. He is a 100% correct. Erin Andrews is a media personality. She is not a credible journalist. The fact of the matter is that if she were not as attractive as she is - she wouldn't be Fox's lead sideline reporter. Simple as that.

Also - how terrible does Entercome/WEEI look here? For a week they were standing behind Kirk despite all of this (rightfully so after his apology, in my opinion). And the second that FOX pulls advertising - they go into full "tail between our legs" mode. Have some damn backbone.

1) "I'll ask you the same question I asked before: Should people go easier on her because she is a woman, or should they call her out just like they would a man?"

-Absolutely not. They should call her out just like they would call out a man. In NEITHER situation is it ok to call for the individual to "drop dead".

2) "He was an idiot for being as insulting as he was, but that does nothing to change the fact that he was completely right: She is a horrible sideline reporter, way out of her league, and her career success is based much more on her good looks than any actual ability."

-Obviously, you have difficulty in understanding the first two sentences of my post #41 in this thread.

3) "You must be new here or using someone else's log in information. I have seen the most hateful, venomous comments made in this forum to everyone from Mike Florio to Michael Felger to Roger Goodell to anyone who wears green. -Once again, you have no clue as to the unique difference of someone stating that someone is a "gutless *****" and should "drop dead". If someone here wrote that about Goodell, Florio, etc. the post would be deleted and the poster given an infraction. If it has not been deleted, then it simply was not seen by a mod. It's the way we mods have been operating for over 10 years before you even signed up here, so obviously YOU are the newbie or using someone else's log-in information if you don't understand that.

Unless they're being paid for the game, they're not doing anyone a disservice

at this point in the conversation I would just like to add that I, Joe Kerr, wish nothing but the best for Omissioner Goodell. May every day bring nothing but daffodils and bunny rabbits, unicorns and rainbows, revenues and face time and may all our football wishes be granted through Rog our Lord...amen.

Well, I hope he dies and goes to purgatory, where he is limited for the next 1,000 years to the confines of London. And every time he steps up to a podium to speak, someone throws a pie in his face followed by cacophonous laughter from thousands in attendance that lasts for hours.

If they have a problem with not being paid, they can get out of the game, easily.

Dennis and Callahan is a real class act. I hope Brady rethinks his visitations there before he gets caught in one of their tasteless tirades.

I hate all sideline reporters, except i used to like Bonnie Berstein. Doesn't hurt that she was easy on the eyes, plus intelligent, plus smart enough to be brief and impactful, knowing no one is there to watch her when there's a game.

looks like him don't it?

That paragon of integrity, WEEI, just ran a movie audio clip on NESN/D&C which featured an f-bomb. Well-done. When you're hot you're hot.

I do not understand all this anger directed towards Erin Andrews.
