Jamie Collins Terrorizing QBs

Do we really know that he added weight? This is just coming from a comment from a poster who is becoming infamous for rambling on with unsupported opinions.

I've seen it pretty widely reported.

Is the Practice Squad closed?

Collins has bulked up to 260-265. He wouldn't say how much he bulked up. Could Bill have asked him to bulk up and keep a lid on it as much as he can. Maybe Collins is going to play a Von Miller role. Or even play some DRE or standup DRE as a rush OLB opposite of Jones for some 3-4 formation plans. Collins is as explosive/athletic as Miller and Bill could use him in a similar scheme as Miller to put more Heat on QBs. Or even have him pass rushing from DRE while whiting Jones to DLE on those schemes.

Or Bill could even stand both Jones Collins up in 3-4 formations. The versatile Ninkovich could return to OLB in the 4-3 while The Explosive Collins moves to rush the qb opposite Jones. Or while in the 3-4 formations while Jones/Collins are pressuring QBs as rush OLBs Ninkovich could even play ilb role of the dirty work taking on blockers to free others and allow Easley to focus on rushing the QB as3-4 DE.
Jamie Collins played 18 games last season, including playoffs. He had 1 sack. He made little to no impact in more than half of his games. Why would bulking up/adding weight all of a sudden turn him into a guy who "terrorizes QBs?"

To be fair, he had very, very few snaps in most of those games. He was brought along slowly and when given the opportunity, he did pretty well.

The guy on SOSH who was maintaining this page stopped updating towards the end of the season, but that should give you some insight on how misleading the "played 18 games last season" metric is. Over the first 12 games, he played 133 total defensive snaps. As soon as he started getting significant playing time on defense, he started producing.

Don't get me wrong, I hope he gets 10 sacks and plays out of his head, but people on this forum need to pump the brakes a bit on these young players. The reason this team wins or loses isn't going to be Jamie Collins' play...

I watched every single game...Jamie Collins had an impact in about 3....

Yes, the last 3 games. Which is much better than performing in the first 3 and then dissappear. Hopefully he can continue on that progress.

Agree on pumping the brakes though. Some people already see him as an all pro. I just hope he can play close to what he did during the last 3 games

And as I just showed, he wasn't playing meaningful snap counts for at least 12 of the other 16. You're basically just rephrasing what I said: once he started getting meaningful defensive snaps, he performed.

Jamie has a ton of potential. He could be the best linebacker we have seen around here since the Bruschi/Vrabel days and I would say he has the upside to even go well beyond those guys.

For some reason when I watch him play, I think of Andre Tippett and Cornelius Bennett. If he could be as good as either of those guys, we'd be in for a nice ride!

Belichick has a lot of interesting pieces in the defense this season. I am anxious to see how he decides to use them.

Dues I highly respect and consider anything you ever have to say! But if Jarvis Jones can be considered very close to Millers raw talent why can't Collins? While Miller had a highly decorated college career and hit the NFL with anticipation and he is a very rare athlete! Players with similar raw ability are drafted in later rounds that have far less college awards/championships/glamour. In terms of raw movement skills I think Collins is at least very close. He had an explosive player index rating the highest in his entire draft. Maybe that's no garuntee for success,it has to be impressive that he has such raw burst/flexibility/explosion/speed.

T, every speed rusher drafted adding size is stressed as important for success. Gym rat is more toward NFL players and free weights. While I think power and ability improvement is helpful I think NFL players should go a little different route. And I don't want Andre Johnson. Well if our young talent flopped maybe. I'm a Kenbrell fan and want to develop our own impact WRs. I'm in favor of a Denarius Moore trade we could get for a #4 at the most. And give us another young WR with explosive ability to develop into a consistent playmaker and make his pro bowl debut in a patriot uniform.

And yes we do have players to move around that can do so much its reminiscent of amount of strategies a top chess player can devise. BTW everybody I seem to talk to or meet and chat a minute all themselves say they are done with Hightower if he shows up over 270 again and looking slow. Those weren't my words originally. On the other hand if he can get with Dion Jordan and add 20 lbs or so hmmmmm...... Maybe a Henry Melton type DT LOL j/k

Respect him so much you can't spell his handle right.

Maybe if the pats got everyone to add twenty pounds of pure muscle, like bro. Dude man, they'd be like gods bro. Just some good old fashioned iron pumping and needle pushing! Brosef-hammer, that's it. Like, thank good dude you like told us what's up.

Now let's get a God Damn snack!

That may go over some heads, but what we really need to do is get him a "tight" number...that will fix everything!

There was a poster a few years back who was obsessed with the "tightness" of the player's jersey number in terms of potential ceiling.

Tell me about it...

Every now and then someone will bring up the "tightness" of a jersey number, in reference of that poster. Wish I could remember who the hell it was.

We've seen our share of weirdos, that's for sure.

So...in an awesome plot twist, Supa pulls up an old quote from woolster proclaiming the infallibility of picking one Patrick Chung. "For surely the tightness of his jersey will lead to a second contract with the team! Pure all pro!"

And that was a clean landing...

I dont know why I tell this story on myself, but after a marathon session of watching Archer (who'd have guessed?) I posted a multi-paragraph response to a post where I lavished praise on our newest scrappy acquisition... Woodhouse. I of course used this name at least a dozen times.

Since that embarrassing episode and since Ive been posting a lot more frequently from my book reader with its tiny, sadistic little Edit box (yes, using half the width of the screen is plenty) with the most aggravating scoll-logic (no thats ok, I dont really need to read what Im writing) I've become a lot more forgiving of other people's types. ;)

I did that last one on purpose.. and um.. any other's you might find.

I make plenty of typos myself. I just thought gymrat left for a reason.

As far as I can tell, this "woolster" with his tight-jersey theory is batting 1000.. ;)
