Dobson, Dennard, Kelly, Easley, Slater, and 3 others to start training camp on PUP/NFI

The only one on that list that really bums me out is Dobson. He needs to get all the practice time he can to sync up with Brady. But the rest are either expected or don't really worry me. The fact that Wilfork, Mayo and Gronk aren't on the list more than offsets it: that's great and unexpected news. I at least expected Wilfork and Gronk to be on there.

Mayo is on the door step of being elite? He has been elite since his rookie year!

Go compare his stats to Willis season on season and you'll find they're very close in everything but pass defenses.

One of a few very under rated players on this board.

It depends on how you define elite, IMO. If elite means "Kuechly, Willis, Bowman and basically nobody else" then sure, I can understand saying he's not elite. Because all of those guys are notably better than he is. But he's probably top 5 and at worst top 10 for what he does, which makes him an enormous asset to this (or any) team.

Did everyone else pass their physicals or is that still to come?

This is an extremely encouraging list, especially if everyone else is practicing by week's end.

The Patriots have announced that the following players will start training camp on the PUP or NFI list –

- Aaron Dobson
- Alfonzo Dennard
- Dominique Easley (NFI)
- Tommy Kelly
- Matthew Slater
- Jeremy Gallon
- Deontae Skinner (NFI)
- Roy Finch (NFI)
- Chris Martin (NFI)

Looks like Wilfork, Gronkowski, Mayo, and Vollmer are full go.

Questions:
1. Is it true as mentioned here that Dobs just took off the boot last week? If true, I'm pessimistic.

Where did you hear that?

Dobson was seen out of the walking boot back in early June.

I read it here...somewhere. It was unattributed, that's why I'm asking.

"you hear anything about das boot and Dobson??.."

Shame about Dobson. He could really use the extra reps with Brady. But it is what it is. The team needs him to be healthy. Not surprised about Easley, though I wonder what the NFI is. Fantastic news about Gronk, if they're not rushing him back. I would still expect his workload to be limited and wouldn't be surprised if he didn't see a single snap during the preseason, but that's nothing but good news as far as I'm concerned.

I think an injury incurred before the player entered the NFL is considered NFI. That's what Reiss said, anyway.

Mike Loyko---Pats writer/"draft analyst" from his twitter feed last week:

"Don't expect to see Dobson for awhile. I'm told he just recently shed walking boot."

@PatsWickedPissah

Your first mistake was listening to Mike Loyko. The next thing he gets right will be his first.

No, he didn't listen to Loyko, Kontra.

I passed on the news of the tweet in another thread about a week or two ago.

I didn't claim that it was definitely correct, but I saw it on patspulpit and passed it on. Blame in on this messenger, not PWP ;)

Better? ;)

By the way, we definitely know that Dobson was still wearing the walking boot in early to mid June, so it's quite possible that Loyko was simply a couple of weeks off--even if he's wrong.

Whether it was mid-June, or the end of June, it probably doesn't make that much of a difference.

He'll return when they feel that he's ready, and all we can do is hope for the best.

Binky update:

@jeffphowe: Sounds like Roy Finch's stay on the NFI list will be short-lived. Expected to be cleared soon.

Loyko? The same guy who said Abraham was coming here no doubt...take it like you would take Russian news about the downed jet. With a big grain of salt.

I thought that was Erica whats her face?

We know that Dobson was still in the boot in early to mid June, so if Loyko is claiming that Dobson recently ditched the boot, he could in theory--be right. It's really just a difference of 10-15 days one way or another. I suppose it would depend on what he and his sources' definitions of "recently" is.

I agree that we should take his, and everyone else's opinion with a grain of salt, but Loyko was pretty adamant that Dobson would not be ready for the beginning of TC, and that he still has some obstacles to overcome in terms of his injury. So far, it would appear that he's at least onto something...

I am still not worried about Dobson. Now if he has yet to play in the 3rd preseason game. I will get nervous

I miss the breaking FA news from Erica Leigh
