The 2014 Edition : Jets continue to suck (what else is new)

A quote from the article: "In his soul there is something wrong. And, I don't think that's something that you can pay your way out of and expect people to forget it." That sums up the Green Beans franchise as a whole -- from ownership down through the fan base ... including parking lot attendants and janitorial staff.

But this Vick "comedy explosion" thing is weirdly disturbing even by those standards. Let's hope he upstages this act with even greater chuckles on the playing field this season.

"Eight-and-eight would be a hell of a disappointment for us. I'm just telling you that I believe this team is on the cusp of doing some special things. ... I'm confident we will be a playoff team."

It Is What It Is >> Jets coach Rex Ryan: Patriots 'need to worry about us'

Blathering Blabba bloviates once again.

“Somebody asked me if we focus on New England. Bull—-,” Ryan told the New York Post. “We’re focused on us. We’re focused on us and how are we going to be better. I have to be honest, I don’t worry about them. They need to worry about us. I think that’s really where we’re at now.”

“Do I think that I’m a great coach? I absolutely know I’m a great coach,” Ryan told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News. “But it’s not just about me. What makes a great coach is the people that surround you, the people that are with you every day.”

True story: I dreamed last night that the Green Beans suffered two safeties in their home opener, one while trying to return a kickoff out of their end zone. Their bench also was penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct.

For a guy who has beaten the Patriots once in the last three seasons (1-5 over that stretch) and it took overtime and a freak penalty to accomplish that feat (that obscure rule that Chris Jones pushed a player into position on a field goal attempt that was never called before that play or I think since), Rex likes to talk a lot of trash about a team that has clearly been better than his for a while.

I am sure the pats are worried about the jets alright

Rex certainly makes it easy to hate his squad every time he opens his mouth, that's for sure.

I "get" the intent of attempting to pump his team up, but like others have said winning once on a fluke in the past 3 years can't be viewed as a good think in Jersey these days. Rex is full of it if he's really claiming that the entire organization isn't focused on us.

Rex is in rare form already. Now he is claiming David Harris is the most underrated player in the NFL:

“David Harris is the most underrated player in the league,” Ryan told the Daily News. “It ain't close! It ain’t close! You could have a top 100... and he’s not even mentioned. And I’m like, ‘What?!’”

NY Jets' David Harris is NFL's most underrated player, says coach Rex Ryan - NY Daily News

I will give you that he is a bit underrated, but as the article points out the guy sucks in pass coverage in a passing league. He is part of the reason that teams were able to pass all over their defense last year.

While we are on the subject on their defense, if we can concede that Harris is underrated, can we concede that their overall defense was overrated last year. They had an incredible run defense, but their pass defense was boom or bust. If they couldn't pressure the QB, their defense was picked apart. Great defensive line, not much to talk about in the back 8.

A smart coach would put his head down and be on the grind to try and turn it around, Rex Ryan would rather continue to boast and talk ****, and threaten.

Geno Smith did not look like a future starting QB last year, Vick is one JE11 switching to DB before Corner blitzing away from the IR.

The jets have one thing going for them, and thats defense, and even that is getting a little long in the tooth. It's going to be incredibly annoying when the Bill's hire Rex next season to tbe the DCoordinator and we start hearing "the bills are the best team ever, this is a team where we are not going to bow down to the patriots."

Frankly, Ryan is not even a good defensive coach. Yes they stop the run, but they do it by playing a scheme that opens up the pass. Yes they come up with nice yardage stats, but they do it at the expense of being the worst in the league at taking the ball away and allowing a lot of points. Yes you can point to some sacks that are due to a creative scheme, but if you look they also give up a lot of plays due to those schemes.

He took over a team that was in good shape, made the playoffs due to gift wins, then had a nice season. Since then he is 22-26, missed the playoffs 3 straight years and his defense was 19th, 20th and 20th in points allowed.

In the last 3 years The Jets defense is a combined 20th in points allowed, 21st in takeaways, and 22nd in sacks.

The Patriot defense, thoroughly ripped on this board, and essentially called terrible here, have been 7th in points allowed, 8th in sacks and #1 in takeaways.

Actually they don't really have a defense, its been in the bottom 1/3 of the league for the last 3 years.

Poor Jets! I feel sorry for them...

NOT!!!!!!

The Jets are a young defense

Richardson 23
Harrison 25
Wilkerson 24
Davis 24
Milliner 22
Coples 23
Wilson 26
Harris 29
Pryor 22
Pace 33
Landry 31
Patterson 31

Lots of youth, and only 3 projected starters at 30+ years of age.

Antonio Allen started 9 games at safety for them last year, and will likely return this year. He's 25. Dexter McDougle was drafted in the 3rd round this year, and will likely be a nickel or dime CB.

About the same as the Patriots Defense. The Pats only have Wilfork, Kelly and Smith over 30.

And, the circus continues. So they get swipe cards instead of paper tickets?! I'd be P-Oed if the Patriots ever did that. Plus, they get "bonus points" for entering the stadium at least 15 minutes before kickoff. I wonder if this nonsense was material for Michael Vick's Comedy Explosion a few days ago ...

This bit also caught my eye: "Points aren't deducted for bad behavior." Well, of course not! If they were, nobody would get anything.

Once those points get tied to sentencing reductions and parole restriction easements, those cards are really going to be loved by Jets fans.
