Does this just make too much sense? (Andre Johnson wants out of Houston)

sounds like Kirwan got a call from either Johnson's agent...or Brady's..

They could have just drafted the beast in 2003, instead of Bethel Johnson.

The Pats have missed on more than a few WRs via draft and FA. Donald Hayes, Stinko, Chad Jackson.

This is why depending on Dobson, Boyce and Thompkins to light it up is such a gamble.

As I said earlier, your post basically made no sense. It's a post that makes it seem as if you haven't been following the Patriots, or the NFL, at all for the past 3 seasons.

Hey Deus, your right i have not been paying attention AT all for the last three years. I just started watching football today.. here let me do some research so i can be an expert like you

Based on points scored/points allowed
2013 offensive rank:3
2012 offensive rank:1
2011 offensive rank:3

2013 defensive rank:10
2012 defensive rank:9
2011 defensive rank:15

Yep. top 3 offense the last three years. Better add MORE offense.

Not to mention passing up Keenan Allen last year, a guy who many wanted, and who seems like the closest thing to Anquan Boldin 2.0 to come around in a long time.

There's certainly no certainty, but Dobson and Thompkins both showed quite a bit in 2013 IMO, given inexperience, injuries, and being thrown into the fray. Thompkins was a UDFA, so he had pretty solid production given where he was coming from. Boyce didn't show as much, but he had a few flashes and certainly has the athletic upside. It usually takes WRs time to develop, so I'm cautiously optimistic that at least 2 of the 3 will make progress. As you note, prior success elsewhere does not guarantee success with the Pats, so adding a veteran WR isn't a given, either.

Even if all three are busts - which is unlikely - we have protected ourselves by adding LaFell and another receiving RB - and perhaps a third with Finch.

Sure, to be a legit SB contender we really could use Gronk staying healthy and at least one of the (now) sophomore WR taking a big step. But we are entering this year as well protected as reasonably possible with the upside of the youth and LaFell added. And we almost certainly won't have to go through half a season of Brandon Bolden trying to be Shane Vereen. Now that was ugly.

Is he a Patriot yet?

Come on people, ANDRE JOHNSON WILL NOT BE A PATRIOT!!

shh, there is going to be a tidal wave of BB is an idiot for not signing Andre Johnson posts. I already have my popcorn ready.

I actually think the reason they passed on him is because he is a possession receiver and they wanted someone who could stretch the field and felt they had enough possession guys with the TE's and Edelman and Amendola....

And while i am not certain if this take is right or not i often wonder if Belichick passes on guys like Boldin and Allen because he knows Brady wants to throw to guys who are open and does not like to throw it up for grabs, where the ability get get open isn't their strength but winning the contested balls is.

It's an interesting idea, and certainly possible. Certainly Bethel Johnson was more of a "stretch the field" option than Boldin - too bad he wasn't anywhere near as good a receiver. And I'm not knocking Dobson, who I think will end up being very good.

It's really the only reason i can come up with for Belichick passing on guys like that, I wanted Allen all through that draft season and was surprised they didn't go after him in the second, but he's not a separation guy and either is Boldin, QB's like Flacco love to just toss it up there and see what happens but Brady is notorious for wanting separation, at least imo, and that was where some of the disconnect with Moss eventually came, as Moss insisted Brady just throw it up there whether he was covered or not and Brady is so turnover conscious he didn't want to do it.

i was also gonna say thats an interesting point, but mayo beat me to the punch

On the other hand they did sign Lafell, and he's really more of a possession guy so who really knows? Other than me, of course...........................

The thing about both Dobson and Boyce is that both are really high character guys and smart football players (Bethel was neither, not a bad kid but he didn't get it), both strike me as players who will work their asses off to get the best out of themselves and that bodes well for their futures in new England. And while we are all wanting a big name like Johnson to come in I got the feeling from Belichick in his exit interview with Holley when the season ended that he really likes and believes in the young receivers and expects them to take a big step forward this season. Dobson missing so much of the offseason has to hurt and he needs to be healthy and get the most out of this training camp and pre-season because he is an important piece for them this season. And while I would love to see Johnson added to the mix if it doesn't impede the Reviss and McCourty deals, I do like the young WR's and expect this receiving corps to have a really good season.

Uh, I doubt it cause he's not a FA
that didn't stop a few people from hating on him for not signing boldin, when the ravens traded him to the 49's
