just can't get into soccer...too boring for me...oh well

Well, I guess this makes it clear that you actually didn't watch the tournament and don't know what the hell you are talking about. Your opinion on Howard is worthless because you "just can't get into soccer, too boring...."

Britpat's team of the tournament:

GK: Neuer (GER)

RB: Lahm (GER)
CB: Hummels (GER)
CB: Vlaar (NED)
LB: Diaz (CRC)

CM: Mascherano (ARG)
CM: Kroos (GER)

AM: Robben (NED)
AM: Messi (ARG)
AM: Rodriguez (COL)

FW: Muller (GER)

Subs:

GK: Navas (CRC)
DF: Gonzalez (CRC)
DF: Blind (NED)
MF: Schweinsteiger (GER)
MF: Ruiz (CRC)
FW: Neymar (BRA)
FW: Sanchez (CHI)

I think Jerome Boeteng deserves a spot in the final 11. Guy was a brick wall every game I seen.

Also Neuer might be the most complete GK I've ever seen.

Neuer, Ochoa, and Howard in that order best GK of tournament. My opinion.

I missed the celebration, so I'm going to go on a little rant here.....

WTF did Messi do this tournament to win the Golden Ball for best player? Was he really that much better than Mueller, Kloos, James Rodriguez, or even Neuer?? The guy was largely invincible for most of the knockout stages, I know he's a great and one of the greatest to ever play, but damn Blatter's man love for him as reached epic proportions. Its disgusting.

You must not have watched the World Cup, or you missed the group stage games.

i actually did watch some of the games...It's not that hard even for a casual watcher to see that Howard is NOT the best in the world compared to the others...Better then Neuer? Funny

You don't know wtf you are talking about. You came into this thread crapping on soccer and saying how you couldn't watch it and now you want to pretend you not only watched it but that you know something about it when in truth you have probably watched 20 minutes of it in your life. I guarantee you never heard of Neuer before this tournament and don't know anything about the top goalies in the world.

Sorry Az but your bias is showing through here. I would have given the award to Rodriquez but Messi carried Argentina and they went to the final. he didn't have a good final but he had a great tournament and was as deserving as anyone for the honor. He clearly didn't care about it and imo that goes to who he is as a player, the only thing that mattered to him was the result and they lost.

Seattle Sounders x Portland Timbers live on espn now. Dempsey is going to play.

The road to Russia 2018 starts now guys.

Where was Giselle? I watched the whole post game thinking she was going to present the World Cup trophy. Was she in the line of stewardess looking girls behind everybody?

You're not the only one who's asking.

Where's Gisele?

Who claimed Howard is the best goalie in the world? I said i would have made him the all tournament goalie, nothing more, and the analysts for the tourney were considering him for the award as well. reasonable people can disagree about that but people who hate soccer and don't watch it should really refrain from passing judgement on something they know nothing about.

Neuer played better then Howard..you can hate soccer all you want. Facts are facts

best goalies,, Ochoa and Navas

Disagree completely, Howard kept them in every game and they were overmatched in every game. gi ven your take on him as opposed to everyone else who watched the tournament I am starting to think you have a bias against him from the EPL.

Ivan, I think you're guilty of looking through rose-tinted glasses here fella.

The US weren't over-matched in all of their games at all, and the only one where Howard was required to make a significant amount of saves was the Belgium game.

If you look around, certainly at the British media, you'll see most have a similar view of the keepers in the tournament and whatnot. Club bias has nothing to do with it.

I thought his performances were typical of Germany - average early on then got better as the tournament continued. Hummels was the key to their defensive solidity though and Vlaar was exceptional for the Dutch. Giancarlo Gonzalez was unlucky to miss out I thought and I would have actually picked your boy Omar Gonzalez as fourth centre back. I thought him and Yedlin were utterly superb.

We disagree, the US clearly lost the possession battles in every game they played and would not have made it out of the group stage had Howard not played outstanding, and yes, Ghana, Portugal, and Obviously germany and Belgium are all more skilled and more talented than the US, what got the US through is that they stayed organized and played as a team and had exceptional goaltending. And i honestly don't think i am looking at it through rose colored glasses, i agreed with 99% of Mike The Brits post I just disagreed at goaltender, and when he then claimed that half of the goalies in the tournament were better i said he appeared to have a bias. As i said before reasonable people can disagree but ignorant people who hate soccer really don't have a say. Neuer may or may not have been the best goalie but his team tied the record for goals ina world cup and I would bet Howard made more saves against beligium than neuer did in the entire tourney. The claim that all of those goalies were better is bias pure and simple.

Great posting through the tournament britpat, I do appreciate the knowledge you and many others brought to this tournament, it made for great discussion. Gonzalez really did play well i just wondered why Klinsmann waited to start using him, he was clearly their best defender.

Ivan, I'm on the Ronaldo side of the Messi vs Ronaldo debate, no question, but I do believe Messi didn't deserve that honor last night. I actually feel thst Mascharano was the best player for Argentina this tournament.
