World Cup Thread.

Non World Cup news but great soccer news nevertheless: Sanchez signs with Arsenal!

Great news if your a Gunners fan;)

Now Ozil's got two guys with pace in Walcott and Sanchez plus another guy in Ramsey who moves well without the ball.

Looking forward to the season already:)

Germany looks like the best team but Argentina has the best player in the world. I am rooting for Messi and Argentina because i really think he deserves his place in history and the Cup guarantees that. Argentina's defense has solidified throughout the tournament and they have shut out some really good teams in the knockout stages, so Germany isn't going to get the free reign they had against Brazil. Should be a great match, can't wait.
You'd think people would learn from the Seahawks that more often than not, the better team overcomes the better player. Sure, there are isolated cases that burn in painful memory and anything can happen on the day (given Messi is a footballing genius) but I fail to see how Argentina is going to match the German midfield. They run in waves and they do it from whistle to whistle. Heaven forbid Lahm gets going at RB. Germany 2-1.

I think Germany is the favorite i just don't think you can overlook Messi.

I think (and hope for financial reasons) that Germany will win. They are a better all around team than Argentina. Argentina have a great attack and are weak in defence (Broncos anyone?) I'd say Germany are an even better attacking team than the Hawks in comparison, if that makes sense. But it's a World Cup final, and Messi is the GOAT, so I think Germany will win, but not a blowout. 3-1 Muller.

Things not looking so hot for the Selecaso after the Mineirazo. . . .

ETA: it appears John Parry is refereeing this game. . . .

Found out by decent sides, was always going to happen. I'm surprised it wasn't Chile or Colmbia, although Brazil carries the fear factor against those two.

Why do the Brazilians keep booing the poor team. :(

For the same reason that some folks on this board post stupid s*** in the game day threads, like the folks who wanted to cut GRONK after the 2010 Cleveland game.

I am disappointed that team USA is no longer a contender in this year's world cup. However, I guess there's always next year.

The only good thing I can think of that came from watching the third-place playoff game was that it made me even happier that neither of those sides will be in the Final.

Brazil were awful even when the pressure to succeed was off. You'd think that they could at least go out and play like ... you know, Brazil. Both sides were extremely dirty and cynical. And after admiring the way that Robben played in the Costa Rica game he confirmed everything that the Robben-haters say of him -- throwing himself to the turf at the slightest excuse.

A question for Brits. What's the Portuguese for "It's just like watching Barnsley"?

still a couple of hours and it will begin a long-awaited final - who knows if Argentina recovers at the last minute Di Maria ... 'our' Rizzoli is the referee of the game (bravo)

I hope it is a pretty exciting game

The Belgian coach said he was very biased towards Argentina. I'm going to be watching -- I really hope not.

Germany looks like they're playing on their heels.

Kramer should have been taken off the field as soon as he took that shot to the head.

Good game so far, this could go either way as Argentina has rounded into form and are giving the germans everything they can handle. I just don't know how many more good chances they can squander?

That should have been a yellow at a minimum, it could have been a red if it wasn't the final.

And obviously even soccer is not immune to concussion issues. I'm not sure if it's even worse here because of the three-sub rule.

They are actually controlling the game a bit more than Argentina yet, thanks to a couple blunders, Argentina has had 3 incredible scoring opportunities and failed to convert. Strange game.

I think that's exactly it. These sports should have league assigned (impartial) doctors to do evaluations.
