Mike Reiss shared a list of roster locks in his opinion - Checking the locks: Open spots on New England Patriots roster - espnBoston

A few things that stood out to me were –
- Stevan Ridley is not a sure fire lock in his opinion.
- Danny Amendola is not a sure fire lock in his opinion.
- Brandon LaFell is not a sure fire lock in his opinion.
- Michael Buchanan is not a sure fire lock in his opinion.

- Chris Jones is a sure fire lock in his opinion.
- Zach Moore is a sure fire lock in his opinion.

How about Wendell not being on that list?

Experience and good locker room presence.

Not surprising since he's one of the worst centers in the league.

Wendell shouldn't be on the list, but neither should about 10 people. Zach Moore is a sure fire lock before we've even broken camp? Mike must have been celebrating the new law in Denver.

So, we're going with two receivers with recent foot problems and cutting guys we've signed to significant contracts, and/or have played here in favor of what?

Where are the the other four receivers? Is Zach Moore a two way player?

Don't bogart that thing, Mike.

Love Reiss, but he's not very good at games like this IMO. For one thing, there simply are not that many "locks" before training camp. Also, just because a player is drafted, especially in rounds 5-7, doesn't mean they will make the final roster. Many players of this description get so tired from practice, they trip and stub their toes before the final cuts and end up on IR and that looks like more of a lock than some of those picks.

Mikey's point is simply that this year there are very few "open" roster spots on the 53 (health assumed) readily accessible to a newbie

Ooo, let's discuss!
I cannot see Amendola or LaFell being released unless it was during the season. I think until players like Dobson, Boyce, and Thompkins prove they can perform at a high level consistently in the regular season you do not move away from proven commodities.

if they don't finally give bequette a chance to show what he can do, im gonna be ticked off......he was a stud at arkansas (i saw him play in baton rouge)........we invested a third rounder......time to reap the dividends

I'm sure they have given him a chance. Players earn playing time in camp and practice, not on game day.

I think that arm length is a major issue for Bequette. He has very short arms and because of that he gets bodied up by OT.

There is a tiny possibility of TRADING DA in season before the deadline and freeing up cap space should the young WR corps over perform

and i agree about the arm length

I am actually optimistic about Bequette myself. I just don't know if it will ever come together for him. He is a very gifted athlete, he had better combine metrics than Jason Pierre-Paul and Chandler Jones. It just doesn't seem to translate to the field at the NFL level. I mocked him on my roster just the same because I'm delusional...o_O

yeah i saw that his vertical and ss were good.....but he's shown nothing yet....i wish i could be optimistic......but im only optimistic about him being gone, sooner rather than later.......if he ever amounts to anything in the nfl, i'll admit you had my number regarding him

If that is his point, he makes it poorly and if there are really that many "locks" already, his selections are bad.

If you want to make a point, it's usually a better idea just to make that point, rather than construct an artificial situation.

There are possibly players right now that will be cut and able to beat out division two players and UDFAs he has as locks.

Do I think we carry three low round rookie OL? I do not. I would expect at least one to go to the PS or IR. Bolden is not a lock in the same category as Ridley. Vereen and white as our top RBs? Goodness gracious. It wasn't that long a go where we had Corey Dillon hopping on one leg for over half a season because we couldn't find a waiver wire back worth a damn. The RB position might be devalued, but that doesn't mean any runner we pick up will be able to produce 1,000 seasons, or even a few first downs.

Let the third down backs run against passing defenses and leave our only top running back where he is, as he deals with his ball security, of course. Bolden's a jag without his juice, it seems.
