Does this just make too much sense? (Andre Johnson wants out of Houston)

Better yet pairing him with Gronk and a vastly improved Dobson with Edelmans 5-10 yard catches to move the chains and give Johnson/Gronk/Dobson more opportunity's for the big play touchdown. If not Johnson we could get Denarius Moore for a #4 rounder. He could be awesome with patriot coaching/work ethic/system. We would have the most talented crop of young WRs in the NFL. Johnson would cost at least a #2. Or a #3 with Dobson. They wouldn't trade him for #3 and Amendola or KT.I would rather just trade the second rounder because Dobson has to much talent.

If I'm Houston, why would I trade Johnson for anything less than

  1. money back from Johnson
  2. first round pick, minimum
when, if he sits, he doesn't get paid, and he just ages another year?

Wouldn't it be better to get some assets in return for a player that won't be playing for you anyway? Kind of like the Carson Palmer situation when the Bengals traded a "retired" Palmer to the Raiders.

last time i check A.johnson wasn't very good in the snow.

We have a little emotional attachment to O'Brien but fact is he is a rookie and a compete unknown as a professional head coach. Quite honestly, history is against him considering how members of the Belichick coaching tree have fared on their own as HC's.

The Texans are in rebuilding mode. They'd be smart to unload the 33 year old WR who's gone in 2-3 years anyway.

Certainly they'd be smarter to unload him to a team outside the conference.

I can't imagine the sample size of that statistic is large enough to be a concern. What games are you basing this on? I honestly can't think of any games he played in the snow offhand.

Ignoring Deus' party pooping injection of reality, were I BB I might make a deal whatever it took to prevent Denver getting the guy. That move by Denver could close the Brady window on the AFCCG, especially if Revis is a one year Patriot..

If he doesn't play, his contract is tolled and everything starts all over again next year, with Johnson out the fines.

If the Patriots can get him for a mid-round pick, and he agrees to re-work his contract, I'm fine with it. I just don't see why the Texans would do that at this point, when they've got a new coach that they need to back.

If a guy is being run out of Oakland because of drops and mental mistakes, then he doesn't belong in New England. Being traded to the Patriots would just magnify those issues, not fix them.

How much cap space does Denver have left? I'm imagine that a least a couple of teams would probably be able to give him more. Then again, the allure of playing for a contender might prompt Johnson to take less.

The smart thing to do would be to unload him to the team that offers them the most.

They are not exactly expected to contend for the conference title anytime soon, so I can't see how trading him in-conference really makes all that much of a difference. Sure if all else is equal then send him to the NFC, but if you can get more from an AFC team, it would be unwise to pass on that.

Don't fool yourself, the Texans lose a little in that scenario as well. His trade value goes nowhere but down from here. They will never get more in trade for him than they will right here and now.

The Patriots are one of those four "interested" teams.

It could, but new England's coaching/work ethic/motivation provided by winning could get him focused and bring out his best. That's what better coached/harder working teams do. They have a positive effect and bring the best out of a player. Jimmy Johnson always said give me talent that I can work with and it. was his job to get it out of him.

The problem is two-fold:

1. I don't see the Patriots giving up what it would take to get him (which is more than likely a higher pick) unless the second year guys are busting, Amendola and/or Edelman is hurt, LaFell doesn't get it, or all of the above.

2. The Texans are not that far away. They can just hold onto him, as Deus noted, and let Johnson start accruing fines.

Either way, I think it's highly unlikely Johnson ends up here. Not impossible. Just unlikely.

The question that remains is , does Mallet still makes sense for them?

Let me see, they have:
Fitzmagic
Keenum
Tom Savage the new Brady

I thought they had 4 QBs under contract, but according to their official web site it's these 3 above.

The way I see it Fitzmagic has the experience to lead this team to a wild card spot, with a great defense he will have to take care of the ball and be more of a game manager. I think he can do that.

Keenum showed a good arm last season, good numbers, but he was playing for a team already tanking and with a lot of players down by injury. Off course he needs to work a lot of things, but, from what I have seen, he is at least the average backup in these days and has a place in the league, I think he's a little better than that, but I need more evidence.

Savage. From the rookies being speculated in the draft, he was the last that got drafted in kind of a desperate move by the Texans who needed to draft a QB to not start the season getting a huge boo from their fan base.

Fitzmagic sounds like the starter in week 1. Keenum can be a backup, or not, but at least he has real NFL experience, 8 games, 1760 yards and 9 TD's. Savage is a 4th round pick who won't be cut.

Keenum is the odd man out but answering my question, no, I don't think Mallet does make sense for the Texans right now.

I can't wait until this saga is over. As long as Johnson doesn't go to Denver then I am fine with it. Manning having Johnson would probably get him 60tds in the regular season

If Rapoport's got this right, someone in the Texans' front office needs 5 across the eyes:

Before OTAs and minicamp, star wide receiver Andre Johnson told the Houston Texans he had heard enough from the new staff and coach Bill O'Brien to make him want to show up and join the team. He told them of his plans to be there for offseason workouts, despite missing the early portion of it. The question revolved around his $1 million bonus for attending workouts.

Though Johnson had missed some of the sessions, he wanted to earn his money back by working out extra, allowing him to receive the money.

The Texans told him no, per two sources informed of the situation.
