Does this just make too much sense? (Andre Johnson wants out of Houston)

They went to the playoffs with T.J. Yates as their quarterback simply because of good coaching and good defense. They still have both. It's way too early to crown anyone or count anyone out. Either way, I'm sure Houston prefers to trade him out of the conference instead of in it.
If Huston loses Johnson, I'm counting them out as superbowl contenders. And Huston's preferences might be irrelevant if they're forced to trade Johnson and he only wants to go to a team in conference. It's not impossible he comes here, especially if NE offers the highest compensation.

I don't see any way Houston trades Johnson to the Patriots. I would love it, but why would they want to strengthen the competition?

Who knows, if we made the best offer they would consider it. It's not as if we are in their division.

It's a match made in heaven for Johnson. He comes to a contender, play with Brady, and can be the defacto WR1 from day one.

From a Texans front office perspective, it could be a choice of getting something for Johnson vs. Nothing if he plays hardball and doesn't ever show up. We do have young WR assets and could part with a 2nd as well.

While I realize it probably won't happen, a trio of Gronk, Johnson, and Edelman would give us a top 2 offense and a top 2 defense. It may be the best patriots team on paper ever. I can still hope!

My preferable trade:

2nd
Boyce
Amendola (salary dump)

I would think hard about:
1st

Not sure:
Dobson
2nd

I think they play hardball with him............but it would be a wet dream if it somehow came true........and hes still got plenty left in the tank........talk about giving brady a weapon for his final years

I doubt any players on their rookies contracts get traded. This isn't basketball, that almost never happens in the NFL.

Financially, I give props to the dude, but I hate what he has done throughout the years to his team. When they were garbage he got a big ol contract and shortly after held out for even more money. Keep in mind that all of his extra cash didn't result in more wins whatsoever and could of been used elsewhere, but now he magically wants out when a new coach has arrived. After years of being in the cellar, you would think Obrien has nowhere to go but up and Johnson would be on board.

To me anyway, it looks like Johnson consistently hustled the franchise and now that the old regime is gone he feels that he had a good run and is looking for a new sucker. I know my opinion is a little harsh but that is basically how I see it. Hell I wouldn't be surprised if the team reimburses his workout/training camp bonuses in an attempt to smooth things over, thus giving him a paid vacation.

I'm for this. Who cares about the million things that scream 'can't happen'. If we all just tweet BB and let him know this is what we want, it will get done, trust me.

I don't know about tweeting, but a surefire way is to send him a message on myface or instaface.

I started this thread so let me just say if it happens incredible I would not part with anything higher than a second rounder.
Would do it for Mallett and a fourth or maybe a year to soon but are you ready to have your mind blown.
Dan connelly could very well be part of this trade as could Logan Mankins.
Markins being traded is a huge long shot but it would make sense with the cap next season and the Revis conundrum and the Patriots have a bunch of young guys that they like.
Throw in a new offensive line coach and Mankins high salary and it's a possibility. The
Not likely but clearly my choice as the shocker this offseason.

Never said it was impossible. Just highly unlikely. Further, the Patriots aren't the only contender that would be interested that they could trade him to. It could very well be out of the conference.

We have a little emotional attachment to O'Brien but fact is he is a rookie and a compete unknown as a professional head coach. Quite honestly, history is against him considering how members of the Belichick coaching tree have fared on their own as HC's.

The Texans are in rebuilding mode. They'd be smart to unload the 33 year old WR who's gone in 2-3 years anyway.

Andre certainly ratcheted up the heat today. It would be great if we were interested, at the cost of a maybe a 3rd rounder and one of our lower-end WRs (KT?)

I'm not sure that BOB would be willing to bring in Mallet (via a mythical trade for Johnson) at this point, mini camp is over, he already has something like 23 QBs in camp (granted they all stink), but it seems like a reach at this point.

That being said, Johnson to NE would be amazing! Let's see what happened the last time Brady got a true #1 WR, oh yeah, they went 19-1 (f&*k Tyree), and Brady threw 50 TD passes in the regular season.

Johnson has a lot of money coming to him (@23 million over the next two years), so anyone who trades for him is going to want to restructure. Houston will take a huge salary cap hit, so any trade really has to be worth it for them.

Houston gets: Mallet, Cannon, and a conditional 3rd round pick, which will escalate to a 2nd round pick if the Pats make the AFC Championship game.

Pats get: Andre Johnson

This way, Houston gets Mallet who can compete to be a starter. Cannon, a young very good lineman, still under his rookie contract. Plus a third (almost sure to be a second) round pick. I think its a deal both sides can live with and sell to their respective fan bases.

I have always thought that the Andre Johnson trade was totally ludicrous when it first came out. Now I'm no so sure for the following reasons:

1. I really underestimated Johnson's desire to get out of Houston. He as been adamant about getting out to the point of giving up $1MM to make his point.

2. He is still a top end WR even at his age. (and one of my favorite opponent WR's).

3. We can create cap space with a trade that would work out well for Houston for example.

4. Danny Amendola is the kind of WR that would fit a need for Houston. Trading Mallet, Amendola, and Thomkins would be a good deal for Houston plus cut his cap situation in half..

5. I'd actually be fine if they kept Mallett and traded Garapolo in a 3 for one trade. Here's another possibility. The Pats get Johnson and a 4th round pick, for Garapolo, Amendola and Boyces

Brady gets his WR while still keeping Dobson and Tomkins to develop. Now the Pats would have 3 outside guys in Johnson, Dobson, and Thomkins; while Edelman and LaFell can give us 2 different kind of slot receivers. Houston gets a solid veteran slot guy that fits BOB's offense, a high end speed WR prospect, and most importantly, a top QB prospect, who can take over the starting job next season all in exchange for a REALLY disgruntled player.

Granted its unlikely. BB generally likes HIS players, better than other team's guys. But a least now, its coming something that's a unlikely possibility, rather than just a stupid fantasy.

Johnson's agent probably got confirmation through back-channels that NE is in play, thus today's bombshell.

If one is to believe rumors, there are 4 teams interested. If one is to believe rumors, the Pats are one of those 4 teams. If one is to believe rumors, 2 of those teams are just as bad as Houston so they do nothing to solve Johnson's desire to play for a contender.

I think what it will come down to is how much is playing for a contender worth to Johnson? How much of a paycut will he take?

Going after a guy like Johnson would seem to be a very Patriots move and pairing him with Brady and Gronk could be very very cool

@RapSheet: Four teams have expressed interest in trading for #Texans WR Andre Johnson, who is working out now “not thinking of the Texans,” source said

@RapSheet: Details of divide between Andre Johnson & #Texans is posting on @NFL.com. He told them he wants to play for another team. Houston resisting

Comeon Houston cave in...

Thought I might be the first posting this update as I caught it on the Houston Chronicle. Then I noticed that PFT and Rotoworld had articles up for hours and surprised it went unlinked for that long I thought Id make sure.

Giving credit where it's due. :)

Which rumor said the Patriots are one of the 4 teams?
