Patriots With Too High A Salary

He does not play all 6 units, he plays 4. He does not play on field goal protection or field goal block.

I am not going to compare Slater to a kicker or punter, you suggesting that we should is foolish.
You're wrong. Plain and simple. You'd rather compare him to only 9 other players in the league and pretend like what you said is even remotely close to factual.

BTW, Slater DOES play on the Field Goal and Field Goal Block units. He has since the day he was signed by the Patriots. OH, and you were the one who claimed he was just a gunner.. Not I.

Players are overpaid relative to holes that are NOT FILLED adequately due to lack of CAP room.

There is only one position that isi undermanned and that position is second string TE. There is sufficient CAP room at $7,000,000 to sign such a player, with all rookies and veterans signed with no holdouts. if any TEs are both available and healthy enough to warrant doing so.

Some any say that the second safety position is undermanned. I submit that the present starter is not fully tested but that does not mean he is incapable. Especially in light of other circumstantial evidence.

The re-acquistion of a former starter and relegation to second/third string plus the outright cutting of a former starter both would indicate or by inference indicate that much is expected of the now blooded successor. If Chung, a former first stringer is deemed under-talented for such starter uses, his use as a fully experienced third string reserve would indicate a very capable depth and spot starter utility.

So in the only measure that counts, there is no one overpaid.

As I understand your position, no one is "overpaid" because we have the cap room to address any supposed deficiencies that we have (backup TE and backup S). This is indeed our situation.

This positon seems somewhat illogical. For example, if Wilfork or Mankins projects to be easily replaceable by current staff, they are not worth his cap money. The cap money is needed next year, or could be used this year for an extension or two.

I do agree with your general position. We are in fine shape going into camp. If we need to add a couple of players, we have the cap room to do so. And, IMHO, there is no player that we project as a possible roster player that is definitely overpaid. Obviously, someone can be beaten out for a position or someone could fail to sufficiently receiver from injuries.

With a 7.5 million dead hit, you know who put the screws to us. Arrington and Amendola don't even compare.

Besides the above, I would add Wendell, Kelly & LaFell to that list.

LaFell 2014: $800,000 (+ $200,000 in per-game roster bonuses)

Kelly 2014: $955,000 (+ $800,000 in per-game roster bonuses)

The majority of our top players are on their rookie contracts still.

That is a hard claim to support. My initial attempt at lists, for example, was:

Brady, Mankins, Vollmer, Gronkowski, Wilfork, Mayo, Revis

vs.

Solder, Jones, McCourty

Others worthy of consideration are Ninko, Gost, Edelman/Amendola, Vereen and -- I hope soon! -- Collins/Hightower.

LaFell 2014: $800,000 (+ $200,000 in per-game roster bonuses)

Kelly 2014: $955,000 (+ $800,000 in per-game roster bonuses)

I included LaFell because for the same money we could've had James Jones.

I included Kelly because I was never a fan of his signing, at any price.

Give Amendola another chance. He is dangerous when healthy. Could be a key piece to the offense if healthy.

I could do without Mankins.

You may get that chance next year, but not this season. There are better options in the draft next year to replace Mankins. I also just don't want him to go. He was easily the best OL on that team last year and, as he showed, can play tackle (and play it well) in a pinch if needed.
