A very happy Independence Day to one and all.

May you long enjoy life and liberty and may your pursuit of happiness be successful.

Happy 4OJ everyone!

Thank you fellas!

One wonders who is more repressive George III or BB?

I don't think GIII was particularly repressive. Just not very good at that compromise thing (psst ... German). Or BB for that matter.

Now the New England Puritans. Did they know from repression!

i felt stupid for just a second, thinking that there was a new type of arena/??? football team linked to the Pats. Then I saw the word "Brit" and it coalesced in my mind. Then again, I was never called a rebel when I lived over there.

Well, we don't speak the Queen's English ovah heeya :)

Listen to what's spoken in England and you'll find a lot of people that don't speak the Queen's English over there, either.

That being said, I'd like to thank those from the old country who've wished us well today, and to wish Mother England all the best in return. I think we've been a pretty good pairing, other than that whole "Get the hell out!" thing.

I've often heard us referred to as the Colonies & the colonists, colonials. In jest, of course.

......so the 4th of July celebrates England undergoing a colonoscopy!

I'll try to remember to wish Mike a Happy Guy Fawkes Day on November 5th .....

It's not as well known on this side of the Pond as July 4th is over there..

I think colonies is as a whole or location (as in country)

I think I mostly remember being called a Yank, a damn Yank or a F**K*N Yank depending on the situation. But Yank had different connotations depending on the inflection used (sorta like "Forget about it" from Donnie Brasco.)

"Forget about it" is, like, if you agree with someone, you know, like "Raquel Welch is one great piece of a**. Forget about it!" But then, if you disagree, like "A Lincoln is better than a Cadillac? Forget about it!" You know? But then, it's also like if something's the greatest thing in the world, like, "Minghia! Those peppers! Forget about it!" But it's also like saying "Go to hell!" too. Like, you know, like "Hey Paulie, you got a one-inch pecker?" and Paulie says "Forget about it!" Sometimes it just means "Forget about it."

Yeah, a common term for an American over here is "yank" or "yankee"...probably not the best thing to call the majority of posters on here!

Happy 4th July folks.

You're being so nice and now I kind of feel bad.. :(

People commonly are under the misconception that the 4th of July is meant to celebrate the official Congressional signing of our Declaration of Independance from the tyrannical mechinations of squinty toothed men like our Mike the Brit* that cruelly sought to tax our tea and force us to fill our cars with petrol instead of gas...

... but the 4th of July origins probably came about because Congress was bored silly waiting for the start of Training Camp.

:sigh:

* Mike the Brit's teeth may be as good as an American's for all I know.. ** Just friendly 4th of July ribbing
