Jets RB Chris Johnson is 100% a team player, right?

Chris Johnson: I can't make plays from the sideline | ProFootballTalk

Once the season starts and once we’re playing and I’m doing my thing, I’m pretty sure if I’m making plays they’re going to want to keep handing the ball off to me. If they want me to continue making plays, I’m pretty sure I can’t do that if I’m on the sideline,” Johnson said, via NFL.com. “That’s with any position on the field, if we have a receiver that’s continuing to make play after play I’m pretty sure they’re going to keep getting the ball. [Offensive coordinator] Marty [Mornhinweg] is a smart guy, he knows how to put his players in the right position to make plays, so at the end of the day, if I continue to play like I’ve been playing, they’re going to keep handing the ball off to me.”

In the context of the article, if your running back isn't saying things like that, you need to cut him immediately.

I have no problem with a back that wants the ball.

I'd say there's no "i" in "team," but I'm not sure if Chris Johnson knows that.

If Johnson wants the big dog role I'd be more than happy for him to do so given his cracking 3.9 yards a pop in 2013.

I am pretty sure he signed with the Jets, so i don't know why being a team player is now some sort of requirement?

Also, as Chrs Johnson will tell you, there's no i in Chrs.

They haven't lost any games yet, the honeymoon is still on.

What else would you expect a player to say? Let's see what happens as the season wears on, but the Jets Oline is suppose to be respectable (not sure how well they do for run blocking). so maybe he has a better year and recaptures the magic or maybe he has an awful year and his character comes through.

Hey, folks! This is the Jets. You hand your ego in at the door (and they give you back a bigger one).

Do you say that because you didn't read the article, or because you want running backs who say "I can't wait to be sitting on the sidelines instead of being in the game."?

Chris Johnson is definitely not the brightest bulb in the box (and he looks like he's at least smoked crack once before) but I don't see any issue with what he said here. He's a former 1,000 rusher so of course he's going to want the ball.

This reminds me of a long ago Patriots running back, Ike Forte. I nicknamed him "The Crab" because when he got the ball he'd most often scuttle to the sidelines sideways like a sand crab running out of bounds to avoid contact.
