What are you guys thinking about the Bills?

I tell you one area of the Bills I will be watching this offseason is their TE position – I would love to scoop up Chris Gragg or even bring back Lee Smith if they do not make the Bills final 53.

I agree the Bills are improved. They might almost be mediocre.

Their success and failure hinge on E.J. to me. If he plays well, I actually think they'll be right at .500. We've seen the Bills play well at times. With that said, I think they finish third in the division after the Pats and Jets. I just see a regression in Miami for some odd reason. I have nothing to back up that statement, though.

The Bills strenghth is on the DLine with Kyle Williams, Marcell Dareus and Mario Williams. This is why I really like the Pats drafting big OLineman in last years draft.

It depends Dareus could be busy drag racing.

I think the Bills are a young and talented roster. I also think QB play will hold them back.

I like what I have seen of EJ Manuel in his rookie year.

Today I think Tanehill and Miami are more ready to go than EJ/Bills, and we cannot count out the Jests too (well maybe we can) but I have this feeling that Miami is going to find a way to screw up this year, not the Bills.

I think they can go 8-8.

they have a rookie QB who was pretty average.
they lost a big chunk of their defensive backfield
They traded their best(headcase) receiver away and are going into year two of EJ Manuel with a 2nd year player and a rookie has his top two targets.

I think they got worse this offseason. there is a lot of question marks for the team, coupled with the fact that they might not be in buffalo after the team gets sold.

In the words of riddick, "Skittish tooms.. reeaaal skittish"

There are two things I will not bet on: I will not bet against Peyton Manning (in the regular season) until I see definitive proof of his decline, and I will not bet FOR the Bills until I see the opposite.

Is this just a normal bet or is death on the line here?

Normal bet. I wouldn't bet $1 on either of them, because I could use that dollar to buy gum or something.

Several points:

1. Manuel is so bad the team doesn't know what to do with him. He is really bad.
2. Jairus Byrd was wildly overrated by many. They'll be fine back there.
3. Brandon Spikes helps them a lot by allowing Alonso to move outside.
4. Jerry Hughes and Manny Lawson are going to help their front 7.
5. What they lost in Stevie Johnson will be more than made up for with Sammy Lee Watkins.

The Bills problems seem more front office than what is on the field.

Oh, and #6: I would put the Bills chances of moving away at .01%

Let's see:

-They have lost their two best players on defense (Alonso & Byrd)
-They trade away one of their best WRs in franchise history for a 4th round pick
-They are giving Manuel 21 & 22 year old starting WRs; what could go wrong?

Depending on how Manuel plays, the Browns may be getting back a top 3 pick.

Just scrap this thread guys. Even when the Bills do look promising, something like this happens to them. Talk about bad luck.

Via Thursday's Patriots News & Notes 7/3 | Ian's New England Patriots Blog, here is 32 teams, 32 questions for NFL summer vacation from Wednesday's Boston Globe. Regarding the Bills, Sean Leahy has this to say:

Bills - Will E.J. Manuel validate the Bills’ investment in him?

Manuel brought a sense of optimism when he arrived as a first-round pick last season. But the optimism quickly fizzled and the quarterback position was the same thing it has been for most of the Bills’ 14-year playoff drought — a problem. Manuel missed six games because of injuries, and won just four of the games he started. He never developed a consistent rapport with his receivers. But the Bills have put Manuel in position to change that this year. They traded up to draft Sammy Watkins with the fourth overall pick to give Manuel a field-stretching receiver. Add in C.J. Spiller, Robert Woods, Fred Jackson, Scott Chandler and new addition Mike Williams, and Manuel has an impressive array of weapons. Offensive coordinator Paul Hackett thinks having a full offseason to study the offense will make Manuel better (and perhaps lessen the indecision that led Hackett to say “argh, who knows what was going to happen” when Manuel was challenged last year). Manuel must prove he can rise above the unimpressive baseline that too many Bills quarterbacks (think: J.P. Losman, Trent Edwards, Kelly Holcomb, and Rob Johnson) have established this century.

What do I think of the Bills?

I think they'll win 4 out of the first 5-6 games and everyone will be start whispering playoffs, and all that crap. Then…… they will go 2-9 down the stretch when they inevitably implode (as they always do) and will be forgotten about by Thanksgiving. Just like they do every year.
