Mike Tanier from Sports On Earth has a good read on the Patriots Offseason

I'm responding to the author through a joke, sorry OhExalted1. I always though all soul's day was Nov.1 so the church could compete with the pagan halloween. I could be mistaken on that.

All Saints Day is November 1st. All Souls Day is November 2nd.

Manning gets less of this crap, despite being a year older and showing a lot more actual physical decline.

Because Manning gets credit for DT taking a screen 80 yards for a TD lord knows how many times last season, Wes Welker being literally uncovered, not a single man assigned to him, for at least 4 of his TD's, 6'4" receivers capable of snagging his ducks out of the sky 25 yards down field.

Brady has played much of his career with dwarves at WR, including his top 2 receivers last year, Manning misses by 2 yards and his giants would find it, Brady misses by half a yard and our guys simply don't have the reach to save him. Our interior OL also imploded for much of the season, Manning was untouched.

Brady still throws the ball much better than Manning, he has better arm strength, accuracy, touch, and their anticipation/decision making has always been pretty equal. Brady just doesn't have Manning's options, when Gronk was active, for those 7 games, no offense came close to our scoring pace, including the Bronco's that broke our 2007 records. But, for some reason, some media like to ignore the "Gronk Effect" because "he's so good we don't count his absence", what the hell logic is that?

Manning will look much more human with Welker being a year slower and another 2 (or 3?) concussions under his belt and Decker on the East Coast (while he's not a number 1, he's much better than Sanders, and his size saved Manning a lot).

Though I'm still not going to be surprised in the slightest when Manning's numbers decline by 3% completion, 1,500 yards and 20 touchdowns and we're still discussing Brady's decline after his improve by 4% completion, 300 yards, and 10 TD's.

The media loves Manning, the football players love Brady.

As I understand it, Slater's value is as the lead blocker. Him returning means something went wrong.

All Saints Day, All Souls Day it's just All Nutballs Day to me.:) November2. Bring it Denver. Can't wait to stomp your ass in Foxboro!:p

Tanier is the best all-around football writer going these days. You have to read him regularly to take many of his comments in perspective - he routinely insists off-season assessments are, in terms of useful endeavors, slightly above walking trash to the can outside the backdoor. But he's paid to do so and intends, if nothing else, to entertain those readers with either nothing better to do or who are so obsessed with their football team they need something useful to do like bring the trash out!

His in-season Mandatory Monday column is like prime rib compared to MMQB, which most of the time is pretty good itself.

Of course the hate birds are all over Tanier - since they have nothing better to do ( Hey, that two week old trash doesn't really smell that bad until you get close so why not leave it on the kitchen floor?). Where were they 3 weeks ago when he pegged the Pat's O-Line as one of the top of the NFL's top 5?

Eh, whatever. Skip Tanier and you'll be skipping more solid NFL entertainment. And that's what it's all about after all.

Sing his praises all you want, but that article was weak sauce.

Thanks for the info. I've been wrong for 40+ years. :)

You might like this observation - granted with an obscenely small sample, but still;

When Welker was her we saw him "blown up" and marveled at his ability to take a hit. Last year he missed games due to a concussion. Maybe age catching up to him, or maybe the QB is leading him into more/worse collisions.

On the other side is Austin Collie. If he had a bigger role maybe he'd be concussed again, maybe. Formerly catching from Peyton made him one concussion away from living in a dark room and eating only things that did not chew loudly. With Brady he was OK. (No, I'm not saying he was as productive as Welker, those that want to put words in my mouth.)

Yes, it is a very small sample, and other things may explain this. That said, why am I holding myself to a higher standard than many "journalists"? I should just block capital PEYTON MANNING CAUSES CONCUSSIONS.

I guess it's just me, but when a football writer doesn't know the difference between waved and waived, it's a sign that he's not a good writer.. Not to mention that he clearly doesn't know much about the Patriots. Belichick regularly uses different people in OTAs and Mini-camps for Kick returning..

The likelihood of White pushing Vereen out is close to nil.. White is likely to replace Boldin first.
