Which player are you most excited about?

so..a butt man eh? that's a sign of maturity FWIW

Like many here, want to see how Revis affects pressure - and Browner obviously too, but Revis is the big shiny distraction. Does anybody remember the last time we could just write off a #1 receiver to single coverage? We're continuing to address pass rush, and I think it's just a matter of not getting torched and turning conservative -- and part of that is having a secondary that gives the other teams pause. I'm excited that our pass rush only shows flashes now and then, because it's like an ability you need to "unlock" in a video game by getting another ability first.

Of course, I'm also interested to watch the new offensive pieces (last year and this year) play their roles... but if this defense plays as the pieces suggest it can play, it's hard to imagine a Brady-led team unable to score the two or three touchdowns needed to win.

Uh, last year.

Talib was a top tier corner for parts of last year, but whether it was just plain talent inconsistency or inconsistency due to injuries (im honestly leaning towards the latter considering he was never as good as he was here until he played in our system with our guys), he didn't remain that way.

Talib is a guy who will play lights out for 80% of a game and give up some big plays. Revis is a guy who will only give up that big play 3 or 4 times a season.

Loved Talib and how he helped us, but he's not a neutralizer, and he was only that guy for us for the first 6 games, he was a bit overrated in 2012 and after he came back last season he was a shell of the guy we had up until (and during) the New Orleans game.

So no, I erspectfully disagree with you stating that we had that guy last year.

Ultimately the guy who is going to see the most "pop" and statistical benefit from everything this offseason is Chandler Jones so that's my pick.

I hope so, for more than it just meaning either an improved pass rush, coverage, or both, Chandler's personality makes him one of the easiest players in the NFL to like and cheer for, I want him to hold the Patriot's single season and eventually career sack records.

On defense--I'm going to go with Revis, myself.

On offense--I'm going to go with the return to good play from Stevan Ridley and a much better season from Danny Amendola.

I'm excited to see Revis in our defense - we've been gradually and consistently improving that position since the abyss that was 2011 but this is the (for now) centerpiece that to me enables the Patriots to easily field a top 5 defense. Further to this, it's no surprise, I think, that the players we are most excited about are on the defense.

I'm excited to see if Browner lives up to the hype and how Dennard responds as well.

I'm excited about Logan Ryan, who showed legitimate potential last year, and want to see if he can take his game even further.

I'm excited to see if Jamie Collins has the breakout year his athleticism is clearly capable of.

On the front end, I'm excited to see what a healthy Wilfork, with Kelly, can do to free up opportunities for perhaps the highest-ceiling draft pick since Gronk in Easley.

As mentioned above, I'm also excited for the potential these additions bring to Chandler Jones' game. I feel his production last year was severely impacted by having to defend the run due to the weak interior.

On offense, I'm excited to see Gronk on the field, period, and hopefully it's for a full season this year.

I'm excited to see if Dobson can improve on the potential he showed towards the middle of last year and avoid further injury issues.

I'm excited to see if Amendola can have the year I still think he's capable of, even with Minitron predominantly in the slot.

I'm excited to see if Ridley or Vereen (or both) will step their game up this year to the level we know it can and should be at.

And of course, I'm most excited to see if one Thomas Brady, with a healthy offense and defense, can have a season so great and with such spectacular result as to not only close the book on who the greatest QB of this generation is, but slam it, lock it, douse it with kerosene, burn it, then scatter its ashes over a thousand Papa John's pizzas.

I apologize as I know this thread asked for ONE player to be most excited about (Brady on O and Revis on D, for the record), but... I'm just excited for this season. Maybe it's the substantial offseason acquisitions, the lack of one of our best players being indicted for homicide, or the alcohol talking, but this is the most excited I've been for a season to start since 2007. It may be dangerous to get expectations up like this, but with the team they're fielding, if they stay healthy (and that's a big if), it's pretty hard not to.

Tons of options though.

The return to health from Wilfork, Kelly, Mayo, Gronk, Vollmer, Amendola (on a lesser scale).

The fire that's always lit and has had fuel added to it this offseason in re: to Tom Brady.

The 2nd year hopeful progression from Collins, Ryan, Dobson, Thompkins....

The addition of the rookies, and free agents.

We could go on and on--and that's a great thing.

Edit: sorry Crononaut. I see we're thinking alike, as you posted at the same time as I did.

Oh yeah also looking forward to see how Jimmy Garoppolo translates to an NFL starting role.

:)

Caveat: that was just me rolling a live grenade in the room for no apparent reason.

Crap, it's happening again, isn't it? I'm getting psyched. Nobody get hurt nobody get hurt nobody get hurt...

Dominique Easley. I might even buy a new shirt and give my Brady jersey a rest.

On The O:

Brady- For obvious reasons. I think this could be the year that he finally surpasses Montana in my eyes.

Gronk- Not only is he the best TE in the league, but he's also one of the 3 best offensive weapons in the league.

Edelman- One of the funniest men in professional football. I hope he elevates his game even further.

Amendola- This is a make or break year for him. If the groin injury was really as debilitating as some have speculated, then I expect him to be a very different player this year. Obviously, it's not out of the question that he sustains another injury, but if he can play like he did against Buffalo, Pittsburgh, and Indy, then he can add some additional firepower to the O. I look forward to seeing how he's used in tandem with Edelmen.

Stork/Solder- Because the Pats have been in some dire need of fresh talent on the O-line. Solder can hopefully elevate his game, and Stork can hopefully unseat Ryan Wendell for the starting job.

Dobson- I don't think Dobson's ever gonna be the second coming of Moss. However, I do believe that he can grow into a very dependable number #2 option that can make those circus catches (an Anquan Boldin kinda player maybe?). I really am eager to see him improve his chemistry with Brady.

Ridley- Obviously his fumbling issues are a concern, but he had a pretty good season in 12', and even shone at times during last year's season (The New Orleans game in particular stood out to me.)

On the D:

Revis- The best CB in the league, save for Sherman. He's going to completely transform every facet of the D, by merely being on the field.

Browner- Adds some viciousness to the backfield, which we've been lacking for a long while now.

McCourty- I like DMC, and I think he's a very dependable player. And I think Browner/Revis are going to allow him to be an even better player than he already is.

Ryan- He showed some promise last year, and I hope he continues to improve.

Harmon- I'm real curious to see how he does as a starting safety.

Wilfork- One of the most likable guys on this team.. If he can be 70% of the player he was in 2012, he'll still be a valid asset to this D, especially when accounting for all the potential of the younger guys on the D.

Jones- I firmly believe that this is the year where he will take that quantum leap and become one of the best DE's in the game.

Hightower- With Mayo back, hopefully he can play a role that's more suited to his talents.

Collins/Easley- For reasons that others have already cited.

I am used to a HOF QB, the games best TE, and I can easily recall an uncoverable WR, unstoppable RB, and a shut down CB, but I cannot remember the last time we had an intimidating, disruptive DT who could--wait for it--put the Fear of God in QBs. Which is what i think Easley is.
