Revis: "I really respect Bill"

I hope he thoroughly enjoys his first year with a stable organization and hope he contributes to a Super Bowl winning squad so he can maybe give the team a bit of a break when it comes time to pony up the cash for a long term deal. He met the team halfway and the team met him halfway this offseason. I honestly hope that happens next year.

I especially loved the comments about how he asks veterans for opinions and talks to everyone to help figure things out, because it flies in the face of the Felger-ites who say he's grown so arrogant that he's basically a dictator on the field.

Not sure what you mean by "halfway." I think he got what the market decided he was worth for this season. He was due to make $16 with TB, but they released him for some unknowable combination of reasons; probably, partly, they didn't want to pay it to a 29 year old who'd already lost one season to an ACL and, partly, they weren't sure he would fit with Lovie's plans. The Eagles and the Pats were the two serious contenders. There's no evidence that anyone was going to pay him a lot more and the Pats were probably worth $1 or so off the number because of the possibility of "winning now" with one of the GOAT's at QB. So, around $12 was where the market settled and, in my opinion at least, was a good deal for the Pats and maybe just a little less than he could have gotten elsewhere.

After taking the $12, I wouldn't expect him (or even think it rational for him) not to keep his options open for 2015, which is what he has done with the $20M "one way" Pats option. If he has a great season, I'd expect him to get as much as he can next year after taking a haircut this year.

I generally think that these guys should make as much as they can in a sport with a relatively short life span (average NFL career is just a little over three seasons) and that presents the possibility of a career-ending injury in any game or even practice. Brady's been the exception to that rule for a variety of well-rehearsed reasons, but, for the most part since Moss, for his generosity TB has watched the Pats let his receiving corps disperse or fail to invest in it.

My guess is if he has a Revis like season, he will want more than 12m next year; and my guess is the Pats will be willing to give him atleast 12m (since they were willing to give it this year). But maybe the Pats won't go above 14 or so.
If we win the SB, maybe Revis goes to the highest bidder, and that's fine because we'll have won the SB and I'll be happy.
If we come close but don't win, maybe Revis stays with the Pats at a slight discount, and I'll be sad we didn't win but happy to have him back.

Proof that you can respect an ***hole.

Anyone who thinks he doesn't ask the players in some cases what to do ect...are fooling themselves. He's a GREAT coach..but not a god

If he's worth more then 12 mill and the pats see/know this..they will pay. They pay top $$ to guys they know will perform at that level. Moss, Mayo, Mankins, Wilfork, Revis ect

Cool, I like the bit about Ty Law at the end, didn't realize they were tight. That can only help scheme wise because Ty Law defined that position for Bill.

2014 MVP.

I still can't believe he's a Patriot.
Enjoy it while you can, as I will. I'm glad he's here and I think he's a great player who could help us win a SB this year. I also think he's an a-hole.

After reading the book about a Jets season, which heavily featured Revis, I would say he is not an a--hole. He is everything Bill Belichick loves in a football player. Monster in the film room. Monster on the practice field, where he takes pride in not allowing a catch, no matter what.

If he comes as advertised, he will make the whole defense better... seems as though we are beginning a slow transition from a top rated offense to a top rated defense... life after #12.

Interesting strategy....

Agree with everything you wrote about him as a player. But, he can be all of those things and still be an a-hole. Of.course, I don't know him so I could be wrong - but I doubt it. Delighted he's on our team.

Interesting:

"Everybody here has accepted me... as much as they can"

Not to take words out of context and put my own spin on them, but it almost seems like he's saying not everyone on the team likes him being here. Of course it is understandable to a degree, as he used to be a member of our one of our most hated (imo) rivals. I guess it can be difficult to let by-gones be by-gones for some people.

"Everybody here has accepted me... as much as they can..to make me feel like at home"

THAT is the FULL quote. I do not get the impression you get. I watched that whole clip before and just watched it again. There are dozens of replies anybody can take out of context and spin into negatives.

I refuse to play into these type of veiled hatred responses. Seems as though that's all it is about around here the last six months.

I'm not normally one to try to find deeper meaning into what someone says. I just found it odd that he would he would add "as much as they can".

Normally most players to a new team would just say something like 'they're good people and make me feel like one of them', or instead of the original quote say something like "Everybody here as accepted me... to make me feel like at home". But he didn't, he chose to add "as much as they can".

And you're wrong, my response wasn't hatred. I like Revis, always have. I was just wondering why he would add the phrase "as much as they can".
