CLE HC Pettine: Mensa Rex Ryan Gave Nick Saban Jets Playbook + Now BB Shockingly Has It!

I hear they are using the Jets offensive playbook and tapes of their execution as an example of what not to do, for the new rookie. That does seem to be an unfair advantage.

Let's write a story of rumors and speculations and pretend like we have a story - ESPN Web Editor

Even if the Pats had a copy of the playbook, it 100% Rex Ryan's fault. The second you give a playbook to anyone outside the organization, it is fair game to anyone. Pettine said Ryan gave them out like candy. If Belichick got it, good for him and shame on Rex.

There is just so much about this story that doesn't make sense.

1) Why would the Jets give Saban a playbook?
2) If Saban had a Jets playbook, why would he risk his professional reputation giving it to the Patriots?
3) If Saban gave a Jets playbook to the Patriots, why would Tom Brady shoot his mouth off about it at some wedding?

Still, I hope ESPN tries to make a big deal about this story. It would be nice to see them get away from their 24/7 soccer coverage.

No wonder Manziel is consistently seen out partying. His coach gave him a leaflet for a playbook.

He probably memorized that thing within 2 hours and now has plenty of time to goof off.

What irks me is that on the one hand Pettine says "…it's only a matter of time that they somehow
mysteriously end up with our playbook…" and on the other hand he explains how that would happen.

It doesn't seem then like a mystery at all, Mikey.

He states the following:
  • the playbook is short
  • Other teams will eventually obtain the playbook, such as NE
  • The head coach distributes the playbook, so there are copies circulating outside the Jets company
Where's the cloak and dagger part of the story?

This story is getting some legs, apparently NFL Security raided the Brady home this morning and caught his son Ben playing with it. According to league sources the play book was easily identifiable because it is the only pop up play book in existence, and Brady apparently admitted to league officials tha his son had mastered it in under twenty minutes.

So long 2015 first rounder......

Pettine may (or may not) rocket to the top of the Bill Belichick **** list, a spot formerly occupied by Brad Childress. When does NE play the Browns again? Give the points and take the over.

Let's for a moment assume that what Pettine's saying is 100% true. Let's assume that Rex Ryan gave a copy of his playbook to Nick Saban.

If that's true, then so what? If you give your playback away (like candy, in Pettine's words) then there's a good chance that other teams are going to end up with it. That's your own damn fault, and even in this hypothetical scenario, the Patriots wouldn't have done anything wrong.

All of that said, I don't believe this story at all. Sounds like Pettine is just trying to make headlines with random conjecture.

As I mentioned above I don't buy the story but let me try and play devil's advocate here:

Is a pro team giving a college team their playbook something completely unheard of, or is it something that might happen every once in a while to help with player development in what is the NFL's de-facto minor league system? Say, for example, to run NFL level plays on a school's pro day or something like that.

My belief is that the story is false but even if it is true, it's Rex's fault for being so stupid. However, if such a thing is a typical routine and there is an "unwritten rule" against sharing the info, I could see a sympathetic case made for the Jets. But IMHO that's the only way this plays out and makes the Jets not look like buffoons.

Sports media gave up covering sports contests a long time ago. Now.....just vehicles for men's soap operas and gossip.
"Jimmy and Danny....Danny and Jimmy" in S Florida was insufferable
The Lord Farve years were years lost on all our lives
But self described "King James" is filling the void like never before.
I'm sickened that ESPN covers this World Cup because I have to tune into the World Wide Lead in Sports Bastardization.

I just got a copy of the Jets' playbook. It is reprinted in its entrety below:

"First Down: Quarteback (Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Tajh Boyd, or David Garrard - take your pick) calls play in huddle from wristband. Nick Mangold snaps the ball. Quarterback drops back. Quarter back gets confused look on face. Quarterback rolls left. Quarterback rolls up into little ball and gets sacked.

Second Down: Repeat First Down.

Third Down: Repeat Second Down.

Fourth Down: Punt."

During change of possession, Coach Ryan complains to referees that Patriots are "pushing."

Where are the footnotes? Are they missing? :D

32 NFL teams have the Jets playbook

1st down: Run
2nd down: Run
3rd down: Throw INT
4th down: If failed to successfully throw INT on 3rd down, then punt

I knew it!!!!

Steve Gregory was in too perfect a position to scoop up the butt fumble and go in the TD. He KNEW Sanchez was going to run into Brandon Moore's ass and fall like a ton of bricks on his sternum!!!!!!!

Actually, this makes perfect sense. Rex gave Nick Mark Sanchez' copy of the playbook, so instead of an interception, he audibled into the butt fumble, and ran it to perfection.
