Things are becoming interesting at wide receiver with Thompkins and Boyce both having great off seasons thus far. Right now, you have to wonder if those two continue to play great, and Dobson returns and plays well, if a player like LaFell or Amendola would be at risk.

Edelman
Amendola
LaFell
Thompkins
Boyce
Dobson
Slater

Seems like they could keep them all, no? Seems like a wise hedge given the youth and injury "proneness" of certain players on that list.

Rookie Jon Halapio continues to get a lot of reps at guard with a reasonable facsimile of the starting offensive line.
This stands out to me; Halapio appears to be ahead of Stork and Fleming currently in terms of opportunity.

Personally, I would keep them all. I think it bodes well to have a nice 2 deep depth chart at all 3 of the WR positions –

X-WR – Dobson, Thompkins
Z-WR – LaFell, Boyce
H-WR – Edelman, Amendola

Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, and Thompkins all played 12 games or less last season, and Edelman has durability issues historically so I am with you on keeping extra.

The wild card would be Gallon, if he shines then it becomes even more interesting. Hopefully, we can slide him onto the practice squad.

I have felt this to be the case since the start having only Edelman and Dobson as locks. If Amendola stays healthy I think he makes it. LaFell .... not sure. He might be better off as a move TE candidate?

As a LG is indeed intriguing. I loved his addition in the power RG mode.

Honestly, outside of Gronkowski and Hoomanawanui there is not another TE that I see as deserving of a roster spot so far, so if it comes down to it I would keep 7 WRs (including Slater) and 2 TEs.

I think once Solder and Vollmer are playing you will see Cannon get an opportunity to start at RG. I would love to see the OL shake out like this –

LT – Solder
LG – Mankins
OC – Connolly, Stork
RG – Cannon, Halapio
RT – Vollmer, Fleming

If you wanted to keep a 9th OL, it would be Wendell or Kline competing. I know Kline has been getting many reps so they could be high on him.

LaFell
Thompkins
Boyce
Dobson
Slater

Agree with this. I've been saying as much since the beginning of the offseason and have thought for some time now that people have been writing off Thompkins too early. He's not anything special, but he has shown that, when healthy, he can beat the press. He's a solid depth option in the receiving corps. Then again, that all could change and he could look like complete crap when the pads are put on as well. I doubt Amendola and LaFell are at any risk of losing their spot on the team.

All along I have maintained the high possibility that an extra WR (LaFell) might be kept as a move TE option .... provided the kids with high ceilings (AD, KT, JB) all show up to play and Amendola shows himself to be healthy.

Something like this:

WR: Edelman, Amendola, Dobson, Thompkins, Boyce, (Slater)
TE: Gronk, Hooman (blocker), LaFell (Move TE)

The only thing I could see that puts a wrinkle in this is if Develin works out as a move TE type (in addition to FB) and makes LaFell expendable in order to free-up a roster spot elsewhere.

Pads do make a huge difference, Ras-I Dowling has shined in every OTA of his career and then the pads go on and he is the complete opposite. I remember players like Bobby Carpenter, Daniel Fells, and others getting a lot of love for their OTA performances and then they did not even make the 53-man roster.

The same receivers were hyped during last year's underwear events. I think it's safe to assume that neither Amendola nor LaFell is going to get cut anytime soon.

"Brady's chemistry is again on point with Danny Amendola, who caught a quick pass in 11-on-11s when the defense lined up in a unique formation. That's a case where Amendola executed his hot route." - Jeff Howe

Every report out of the workouts so far has been exceedingly positive for Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola, even with them taking extra reps with Brady while the Pats run their special team drills. Those two are miles ahead of everyone else on the Pats' depth chart at this point.

They're keeping all 6+Slater is my thinking, barring injury or trades.

Gallon's in a really tough position with both Boyce and Thompkins being standouts in camp thus far. They're certainly not going to cut Dobson, period.

Jamie Collins got into the offensive huddle in goal line situations today. We started calling him JC Superstar during practice

Vrabel role from the 5yard line maybe? Interested to hear exactly what they had him doing. Collins is a lot more interesting to hear about lining up on offense than most defensive players who have in the past because they are usually linemen taking a FB role on the goal line, Collins is an athlete that could, if he understood his role enough, could box out other LB's as a TE.

He did play offense growing up, no?

With his leaping ability, Collins makes sense as a red zone threat. Hell, Collins makes sense anywhere at this point. Sick athlete.

But Thompson showed enough ability with pads on last season to be a totally different comparison.

Maybe we could bring back Sudfeld to see if he can replicate last year's OTA performance ;)

This is what I have right now –

QB-Brady-Mallett-Garopollo
RB-Ridley-Vereen-White-Houston
FB-Develin
X-WR-Dobson-LaFell-Thompkins-Slater
Z-WR-Edelman-Amendola-Boyce
TE-Gronkowski-Hoomanawanui
LT-Solder
LG-Mankins-Kline
OC-Connolly-Stork
RG-Cannon-Halapio
RT-Vollmer-Fleming

Swanson might not be a fake. He lead his state for ints in 08 in high school with 13 and broke his school record for ints in college in 2011 with 8. So he's shown great ball skills before.
He's also a 186-pound safety. While there might be room at safety, with Logan Ryan and Jemea Thomas as 'tweener safeties at around 190-195 pounds, and Devin McCourty a converted corner, there's more need for a bigger safety and more of a logjam at 'tweener safety.

Maybe we could bring back Sudfeld to see if he can replicate last year's OTA performance ;)

They may just replace "Studfeld" with Finch, when it comes to the hype machine.
