If it's any consolation, you can watch him run against the Jets this year.
Except your running game, and everyone's running game that plays them, will be completely stifled but that DL (short of a rash of injuries to that position, of course). Their run defense is no joke. But Ben should be able to pick them apart and take what he pleases through the air.

Not a chance. Lynch has been consistently overrated since 2011 because of a single extraordinary play. We're talking about a guy who has averaged 4.2 yards per carry over his career and who has averaged over that only once (in 2012), despite running behind some very good offensive lines. He scores a lot of touchdowns, which makes him a good fantasy football running back, but in the real world his reputation comes from highlight reels and his personality.

Given his age, $5m a year for a guy who averages 4.2 yards per carry is a big no thanks.
Since when is 4.2 yds/game considered bad. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the statisticians stop recording yards after the RB crosses the endzone...12 times.

Some Lynch rushing rankings for 2013
#6 in yards
#1 in TDs
#2 in carries
#4 in 1st downs
Post Season 2013
#1 in yds, TDs, 1st Downs, carries
Over past 3 regular seasons....games missed
M Lynch....1
McCoy......5
Forte.......5
Charles....15
Peterson...6

To summarize.....Durable, reliable, effective, the focal point = MONEY

I would give him that much, i think he beats up defenses and wears them down, and the threat of breaking one off is always there.

*Moot point, as he apparently is rejecting that from Seattle.

I really like Blount, and flat out loved him as a kick returner, as soon as he gets a head of steam there isn't a player on the return defense that wants anything to do with him, they just bounce off of him. However as a RB he is not a committee guy, there are games where he should just sit and watch and there are games where you give him the ball 25 times and he puts up 175 yards and a couple of TD's, but he is definitely a guy who has to get his carries within the game to be effective, he's not going to do much giving him the ball 8-1o times, he needs to wear the defense down and that takes carries.

Lynch imo is worth more then every running back but adrian peterson.

he's the most feared player on their offense. Ofcourse its worth it.

I wish we'd been able to keep Blount. That guy was FUN to watch run.
I was kind of glad we dumped him. I was getting sick of hearing about how amazing he was after two good games in the rain.

And among RBs with over 100 carries, he was 22nd in efficiency out of 48 total. Among those with 200 or more, he was 12th out of 22. On a per-carry basis, he did less than players like Ryan Mathews, Chris Ivory, Rashad Jennings, Montee Ball, Stevan Ridley, and Fred Jackson - and ran behind a better offensive line than any of those players.

Postseason compiled stats are effectively meaningless since a player whose team plays in the Super Bowl is necessarily going to have the opportunity to compile more statistics than any other player. It's also a tiny sample size, so who cares.

Durability is mostly based on luck unless a player deals with chronic issues. Before 2011, anyone would have called Peterson a monster of durability too, and most of his missed games came in one year.

As for touchdowns, Stevan Ridley had 12 in 2012. Trent Richardson had 11, and Michael Turner had 10 that season. BenJarvus Green-Ellis had 11 in 2011, did that make him superior to MJD, who only had 8 that year? Hell, Rashard Mendenhall had 8 touchdowns last season but averaged 3.2 yards per carry. Maybe he was so inefficient because they stopped counting at the end zone.

I think Blount was amazing..

.. in the rain. :D

And maybe average (?) for his kind of back the rest of the time.

I'm pretty sure Seattle thinks Lynch is worth just over 5m this season cause they haven't cut him yet.
Lynch thinks he's worth more than 5m, otherwise he wouldn't be threatening to retire.
So I think the real poll is -- would you pay lynch 7-9m (whatever his demands are) plus trade something -- it might need to be a 2nd/3rd/4th rd pick; otherwise Seattle is better off just letting Lynch retire rather than giving him away.

Would I pay Lynch 5m? Yes; Would I pay him more plus draft picks? No

That's the point though. SEA is a team that says, "hey we have Lynch and we're gonna give it to him and you know we're gonna give it to him, but you aren't stopping him". That's a guy I want. 4.2 YPC compared to Ridley's 4.5 is not much different. (also I'm a HUGE Rid guy) Lynch plays on a team that has no weapons throwing compared to us. Imagine if he played in an offense with Brady and the WRs that would make the defense stay honest? it would be dirty.

Lynch consistently runs 20+ times a game with 8 guys in the box and gets the job done. Looking at stats doesn't always tell the tale. If Lynch was in an offense with a legit passing attack life for him would be 500 times easier.

If you watch SEA games, you can see that teams just play run the entire time and force Wilson to make a play. Lynch is a superior back in this league and if you cant see this you are blind. SEA doesn't do anything successful on offense without him.
