Patriots sign Kyle Auffray, TE from UNH

This guy has size but he doesn't look real athletic. Sort of stiff all over.

We talk a lot about Keller and Finely but one player that is on the free agent market we have not discussed is Kellen Winslow. He caught 31 balls for 388 yards and 2 touchdowns last season on the Jets (an awful passing team). I know we had him in for a game back in 2012 but that was when we had TEs coming out of our ears.

He cant keep his nose clean.

three pages on a guy who probably won't make the team. do you folks really think this guy is going to contribute? i've been a pats fan for well over 30 years and i'm shocked at how delusional the fanbase, or at least the majority of patsfans posters, has become.

Come on, now. You've got over 1000 posts here, and you've been a member since 2010, which means you've been through things such as the "Tavon Wilson was not a reach!" period. There's no way this can be a surprise for you.

This kid looks good. Could be a come out of nowhere player that makes the team. He looks like a hard worker and a man on a mission. Impressive combine videos.

I'm rooting for the kid big time but Seabass' workout videos showed more athleticism

This thread is fine. Its a balanced mix of diverse opinions in my opinion.

Do some fans get have unrealistic expectations and hopes for new prospects? Sure. But I'd rather be drinking a beer with those kind of fans than getting preached to by the know-it-alls and listening to them scoff and belittle and roll their eyes at every spark of hopefulness.

I can get that by turning on the radio.

EDIT: Deleted the worst of the snark.

The people on the radio dont have half the knowledge many posters here do. So I wouldn't let that bother you.

Did you actually read the three pages? Here's a quick roundup of highlights:

He's a project guy, right from the start, too. This could be more about practice squad spots than the big boy roster.

So, basically, they tossed another warm body into the TE "competition"...
So they cut a player from UMaine, and added aplayer from UNH. I wanted them to draft Blanchflower from UMass. But they prefer a player from UNH over players from UMaine or UMass, I guess.
Speaking of TE, I don't think Joe Don Duncan ever signed with anyone. He was in Colts' camp on a tryout but I don't think he signed. I wonder if he's still not healthy enough or if he was over hyped.

Delusional homers! What were they thinking???

(IMO the only takeaway message from the thread is that in June, football fans are desperate for ANYTHING to talk about.)

Every year we should give out the Bam Childress Award to the player who gets the most binky hype based on unproven measurables or outstanding performance in the 4th preseason game.

Backup TE isn't a position where you need to be a gazelle. He's obviously a self made player with the speed and strength and motivation, so why not? Block that guy, run 10 yards and turn around.

Of course all that matters is production in the game.

Mis-named.
Call it the Sean Morey Award
Bam was cut and re-signed ad infinitum; a different type of award
But it was Sean who every pre-season late in the 4th QTR would catch long game winning bombs tossed by a scrambling Michael Bishop
You know, Michael Bishop, the guy who we saw as the next (pre dog killin) Michael Vick in sharp contrast to the tease at QB who was The Statue

Sean Morey (of Mahshfield MA) had a nice little career (mostly on STs) before concussions cut it short.
Too bad he wasn't given a better chance of playing here during that career.

bah...you just have a soft spot for former Brown players. Didn't you meltdown when the Pats didn't draft Zach DeOssie?

DeOssie was taken before our next pick, and first since the 1st round (Meriweather).
At that point, I was hoping for CB Tarell Brown; instead, Bill chose DT Kareem Brown.
So instead of getting the LB/LS from Brown, or the CB named Brown, we got the fat slob
named Brown.

So the guy was out of football for two full years, and came back bigger, stronger, and faster.
Wow, that's really weird.
I wonder how that worked?

Working out? Probably easier to get bigger, stronger, and faster while NOT playing football which is a physical beat down.

Doubt it made him better at football though.

LOL, you win! He just got cut!

So it's three pages for a guy who was on the team for a week, during OTAs!! Yeah, we are all that anal!!!

He saw Dr. Oscar Goldman

Well isn't this the 2nd TE they cut in the past 2-3 weeks? Maybe that is the story here. They just seems to keep signing and cutting guys at that spot. I wonder if there is any subtle indication we can gleam from this.

Do you think the constant recycling of TEs is more of or less of an indication they plan to sign a vet?
