Why does everyone assume Browner starts over Dennard?

You're acting like Dennard played great and Ryan was horrible. Which neither was the case.

Three women go to Vegas and decide to split the cost of a single hotel room to save money. The room costs twenty five dollars. Each of the women give's the man at the front desk a ten dollar bill.

For some reason, the man does not have the correct bills to give change. He promises he will send up Ted the bellhop with the five dollars the hotel owes them.

The clerk gives Ted the bellhop five one dollar bills with stern instructions to divvy it up between the three guests and to not get into trouble on the way up. On the ride up to the women's floor, Ted can't figure out how to divide the five ones between the three women so with a shrug he pockets the remaining two one dollar bills.

Now, each woman paid with a ten dollar bill and each got a one dollar bill back from Ted. That's nine dollars per woman. If nine times three equals twenty seven dollars and you add two that Ted the bellhop kept for himself, that equals twenty nine dollars.

Where did the other dollar go?

Dennard was clearly ahead of Ryan when last they played, as per the depth chart. Assuming that he would start out ahead of Ryan is a sensible position as a result.

I do not think they like Ryan as an outside CB as much as they do Dennard, he is not as physical. Ryan is actually a great fit for a slot CB/free safety role; similar to what Mathieu played in Arizona he has excellent ball skills.

Maybe, but history recently isn't on that side.. I think Dennard is better than Ryan anyways but I also think Ryan could be our #1 CB by '15 or '16.

I just don't want to force the issue with Ryan. Keep his PT limited in to good matchups and let him learn from Revis

Interceptions are a very overrated stat. Ryan had a couple nice picks but also the Geno INt was in his lap.
I mean, Arrington led the league with 7 in 2011...

2011 was a weird year for us. Wilfork was for a time one of the league's leaders in interceptions.

Why would it be?

Ryan was only a rookie and showed great potential. in 2-3 more seasons of experience and work, I think it's not far fetched to see him as our #1

I just watched the 3 plays mentioned in the one article about Browner's struggles. Two were when he was playing off coverage, and none of them had any help from a safety. Basically, they were perfect examples how not to use Browner. He was replaced temporarily (17 snaps) by a much more prototypical CB, Byron Maxwell, who runs a 4.43 as opposed to Browner's probably 4.7 at this point.

Off topic: Am I the only one who has noticed Welker's new found concussion problem? If Peyton Manning leads him into defenders like he did Austin Collie, Welker may not last long enough for Browner to do that.

He got suspended and Maxwell started in his place, Maxwell playing good is why Browner was expendable, I didn't state that he lost his job to Maxwell.

Numbers don't lie, but the implications people derive from said numbers can. In this case, without detailing the matchups that each corner drew, as well as how much help each player might have been getting, I can't look at those numbers and say Ryan was better.

That's not to say Ryan won't take a step forward and play better than Dennard this season, but don't fall in love with stats when trying to evaluate NFL players.

I never said Ryan played better. My point was Ryan wasn't as bad and Dennard wasn't as good as Deus Irae makes it seems.

They are totally different CBs. Browner will be assigned to tall, rangey WRs that would give shorter CBs such as Fonzy a lot of problems. The Fonz will be assigned the small quick guys...

There is no "other dollar". They paid nine dollars each, which is 27 dollars. The bellboy kept two dollars which brings it down to the 25 dollar cost. Don't try to explain this to Psycho6, he'll insist that a dollar is missing and Amendola stole it.
