Amendola hung up on Adam Jones during 98.5 radio interview...

I obviously don't listen to sports radio as I was wondering why he would have been talking to a Baltimore Oriole and why anyone would know or care.

Oh and I'm just speaking as a generalization. I didn't listen to the Amendola interview, so I don't have an opinion on how he handled it. I'm more so saying that I don't understand where this idea that's it's a positive thing to not treat the media with respect. They are just doing their job.
Not trying to be a **** (I sometimes come by that naturally), but what exactly do you think is "their job?" I ask that question because I believe the answer goes right to the essence of this issue.

Pats players don't talk about injuries, they're most likely told by BB not to talk about injuries openly. Adam Jones knows this and after asking the question a couple different ways without the answer he was fishing for should have been a professional and let DA promote the event.

This is the result for Amendola. It was not worth it, he should have handled himself better.

I did not hear the interview when I posted previously, but Jones was not doing anything that I would consider grounds to hang up on him for, that is disrespectful and immature. Amendola agreed to an interview with a sports radio show, obviously they were not just going to have him on to plug his charity and hang up, they were going to ask some football questions. Amendola has missed 50% of games over the past 3 NFL seasons so being asked 2-3 questions relating to his health is not anything unexpected.

That is not the Patriots way, Belichick is very tight lipped with the media but he does not straight up disrespect them, and neither does Kraft.

"That is not the Patriots way..." really? Discussing one's injury in a third consecutive question is "The Patriot's Way"? When did this happen?

Odd that 3 of your 4 links are a Red Sox worshipper from Boston.com, Florio and then the interviewer's own station website. I'm only surprised you haven't found Borges' take on it yet, B6

Your other point that Belichick does not "straight up disrespect the media" is also laughable. 95% of his press conferences are laconic schticks of unconcealed disrespect. Just because he delivers it in a low, flat voice does not make it any less contemptuous.

Finally, after deflecting the first two questions about his injury history, exactly WHAT did you expect Amendola to come up with as an answer to the third straight question about something he clearly stated he is not focused on. The "Patriot Way" is to focus on what a player needs to do NEXT. It's not like Ridley's fumbling problem where it is something he can practice harder. Do you want tears from the guy?

I'm not saying Amendola didn't have a right to be annoyed by the questions but he still could have handled it better. The way he handled that was just immature. It was abrupt and honestly it just puts him in the cross fire unnecessarily.

He could have just said "Adam I have nothing else to say about my injury history or my current health so let's move on." That would have been a more mature and professional approach to the situation that would not have put a target on his back in the media.

Guess you forgot Belichick slamming Breer in one of the postgame when Breer asking the same question in 100000 different variation.

He didn't just walk out though he addressed the issue and moved on. I'm not saying Amendola was wrong in not wanting to answer the question again I'm just saying he could have handled it a lot better by speaking up.

He did walk out, Breer raise his hand and about to ask another question. Belichick looks around the room said "No more questions?" then walk off.

Why would Adam Jones agree to that? He is running a sports show not a show on charities, the exchange was Amendola comes on talks about football and in in exchange he gets a platform to promote his event.

That's not how I remember it. It doesn't really matter though, either way I think Amendola could have handled the situation better. The perception is that the charity Amendola supports means less to him than having to answer questions about injuries that he doesn't like. That is not a good perception for a guy entering his second season coming off a poor adversity filled first season. Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do, we all do in our careers to aid the bigger picture.

I guess I have a different take on it. I get concerned when someone can be "taken off his game" that easily. He's obviously sensitive to criticism. Now that there's blood in the water, I can see the media going after him if he doesn't perform or gets nicked up. He's shown a vulnerability that people love to exploit. He should have laughed it off, plugged his charity, and just not go on there again. He has to have known that people have been talking about his injuries. He has to be more professional than that.

He did the only smart thing given this dork's insistence on insulting him to his face. If he stayed there and listened to more of that repeated over and over, he looks like a wimp. If he does what most athletes would do, tell him to buzz off, then he's lost the battle too. you need to read over the episode and how the reporter insulted him, then kept at it, then went back to the insulting "your fragile" theme a third time.

As a wise man once said, discretion is the better part of valour.

Well, Mr. Hyde. I liked your Dr. Jekyll response earlier, much better.

I can honestly say I don't ever think I've rooted for a player more to shut up the critics more than Amendola.

If he breaks out for a monster year, and we win the SB, I'd love for him to walk around with the Lombardi on one hand, while giving the middle finger with the other. He'd deserve that honor.

Didn't listen to it, didn't read any articles about it. With that said, good for any sports radio guy to ask hard questions for a change. The Boston media has been conditioned to "know their place" when it comes to the Patriots and I'm glad a few are actually trying to dig verses the majority that wait for PR handouts and tweets. The "athlete" interview with the softball questions has got to be the least interesting segment of any sports radio show only outdone by the charity plug at the end....aka...the cost of doing business. The athletes/agents treat these interviews as favors that these athletes are granting both the radio station and the listeners. Access to a celebrity at a price of one charity plug. Horrible radio.

Super Bowl build up week with radio row hosting the celebrity/charity pitch formula for 8 hours a day for 5 days. Horrible radio....... Dan Lebatard became huge in Miami because he figured out what the listeners liked and disliked.....and he refused to do a single athlete interview because the jocks were vanilla, boring, and never brought anything to the table. Felger and Maz....they consciously choose to steer clear of the snooze interview. Just two examples of shows that refused to be a part of this media game....and both happen to own their markets.

What's really surprising is the level of conditioning by some who get offended that a Boston media member might make a Patriot uncomfortable by asking for some straight talk for a change. Don't blame Adam Jones for asking what fans want to know, blame DA and his agent for choosing the wrong media outlet to sell their cause. For some media, the mere presence of a celebrity isn't enough to fill the airwaves with vanilla fluff for 5 minutes.

Me too, but he'd probably sprain the middle finger flipping it or dislocate a shoulder carrying the trophy in addition to whatever other injuries he has at that point.

Having a healthy discussion on Amendola today. There is a realization that this is the first adversity probably in his football career.

Zuri Berry is an idiot. Danny Amendola has had major elbow, shoulder, groin and concussion injuries. This guy puts his body on the line every week. Berri's greatest risk is aggravating his hemorrhoids every time he sticks his head up his ***.

I like Amendola's decision to hang up and let the local media know he's not going to put up with their crap. Belichick has to love this.

Typically, there is an understanding that when a player comes on the show to promote a charity, you shouldn't be asking him a lot of tough questions and put him on his guard. I don't know if Amendola handled the situation correctly, but since 98.5 is the one putting the spin on this they are not taking any sort of the blame for this interview. Jones basically started the interview grilling Amendola about his injuries. That was in bad form IMHO for this type of interview.

Amendola giving back some community service and 98.5 probing about his proneness to injury and stirring up controversy. This is largely poor judgment by the "journalist".

Amendola was caught between a Rock and Hard place. He agreed to the interview so he could promote a Charity. His boss says, 'Shut Up!' about health and injuries, and this media clown won't stop asking rhetorical questions, he can't, and isn't allowed, to answer. Well done DA.
