What do the rest of you have?

Why should anyone bother?

Writers and analysts do it because they get PAID big bucks to do it.

The truth is they don't matter. QB rankings are irrelevant.

It's not about who puts up the best numbers, or who plays the best for 16 games.

It's about who gets hot in the playoffs and can handle the big game pressure in January/February.

Example: Joe Flacco, Eli Manning, Tom Brady 2001/2003

Flacco in particular, is by no means a top 5 QB, but he played lights out in the playoffs a couple years ago. He was on fire and ultimately won a SB.

The 2 best QB's in America are Brady and Mariota. I could care less about the rest.

I ask this when anyone brings up QB rankings:

What has Andrew Luck done to warrant a top 10 ranking?

Why not do it, we have 3-4 threads open right now about Brady and his place in the top 5 and a thread about Kaepernick signing the biggest contract ever by a QB.

What has Andrew Luck done to warrant a top 10 ranking?
He is 22-10 in his first 2 seasons in the NFL along with this accomplishments –

2× Pro Bowl (2012, 2013)
2× AFC Offensive Player of the Week (Week 9, 2012; Week 7, 2013)
3× Pepsi NFL Rookie of the Week (Week 3, 2012; Week 5, 2012; Week 8, 2012)
NFL Record for most passing yards in a single game by a rookie (433, Week 9, 2012)
NFL Record for passing yards in a single season by a rookie: 4,374 (2012)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andrew_Luck

TD–INT 46–27
Passing yards 8,196
Passer rating 81.5
Rushing yards 632
Rushing touchdowns 9

Top 4 (order is debatable, but they're all elite level franchise QBs)

Brady
Manning
Rodgers
Brees

Next two
Roethlisberger
Rivers

After that, you're looking at a group that is pretty fungible right now, before getting to the mediocrities and the stiffs.

So average QB stats, (pretty bad comp pct.), won the worst division in football, and has sucked in the playoffs.

Just not a fan of him yet.

Meanwhile, Russell Wilson has more passing TDs, a better comp pct, a better yards per attempt, a better qbr, more rushing yards, less turnovers, more wins, and a superbowl ring. Also a 4-1 playoff record with a playoff qbr above 100 to go with 6 TDs & 1 INT. What am I missing?

To be fair.... the team around him. I don't have luck as a top 6 QB, but he's also stuck with that 2-14 Colts roster rebuild, which isn't as talented as that Seattle squad.

Fair point. It's what Luck has going for him in a debate. Although IMO if you cancel out Wayne and Lynch, both of them have had mediocre OLs and supporting casts. Luck's defense isn't the reason he's been INT city in the playoffs.

Deus nailed the list. The top 5 is concrete with Brady/Manning/Rodgers/Brees then Roethlisberger alone at 5. After that it's debateable. I'd put Rivers at 6 but a 4-5 playoff record without even one superbowl appearance is rough at his age.

2014 should help sort out the kids a bit more.

What do the rest of you have?

I think the bottom of your list is more fun to argue. And not just your list, just ranking the bottom level of QB's is more fun to me.

So I honestly, think Chad Henne should be 20. I really like Henne, I think he is a decent QB. Just using your 20-30 I would go..

20. Chad Henne – Jaguars
21. Carson Palmer – Cardinals
22. Matt Schaub – Raiders
23. Ryan Trannehill – Dolphins
24. Andy Dalton – Bengals
25. Sam Bradford – Rams
26. Geno Smith – Jets
27. E.J. Manuel – Bills

9. Rivers
10. Ryan
11. RG3
12. Kaepernick
13. Flacco
14. Foles
15. Manning, E.
16. Stafford

The rest, who cares

Whats the criteria? Not to be smart ass, but makes a big difference. Short-term, long-term, etc, etc.

It seems from the lists, most are going along the lines of "One season only, 2014 season - to win it all, all with roughly equal salary", or basically, "pick one for your 2014 team all other things being equal". If so I think the lists are pretty good.

Personally, I think Rivers is underrated and is better than an overrated Big Ben, and they should be swapped in most lists. Or if u like Ben for your team's scheme this season :), at least Rivers moved up most lists to around #6 or #7.

For 2014, RG3 shouldn't even sniff the top 20.

My tops
  1. Tom Brady – Patriots
  2. Aaron Rodgers – Packers
  3. Peyton Manning – Broncos
  4. Andrew Luck – Colts
  5. Drew Brees – Saints
  6. Philip Rivers – Chargers
  7. Ben Roethlisberger – Steelers
  8. Russell Wilson – Seahawks
  9. Nick Foles – Eagles
  10. Matt Ryan – Falcons
  11. Cam Newton – Panthers
  12. Collin Kaepernick – 49ers
  13. Eli Manning – Giants
These QBs give you a better chance to win than the rest of the pack either through reading defenses, audible expertise, throwing accuracy, ball security, dual threat, pocket awareness or just that overall Je ne sais quoi.
