Overall, I'd have to say no for me. I am super excited about the possibilities of fielding a top-five defense, though!!! The offense with Gronkowski last season was the highest scoring offense in the whole league. We can live without a Randy Moss. It's funny how people only think about '07 but seem to forget how the offense started to stall and that was as much a part of the Patriots dealing him to the Vikings as his weird antics were leading up to the trade.
The young guys do need to mature and play better. However, not having a Randy Moss-type player is not the end-all that some seem to be making it out to be. We just need everyone making plays more consistently. One guy has a stellar game here. Another one there. Let's get everyone performing at optimum level together for stretches of games and weeks. That's the true beauty of the offense. Complimentary football. Spread it around and get it to the open receiver. We won SB's by picking our spots on deep throws outside. We won them with WR screens, slants, and curling routes. It can be done again, though I'm not suggesting necessarily that's what the Pats will do.
If that defense can suffocate teams and win a handful of close games, we won't need to put up 30+ points per game. We won't need to put all of the weight on Brady's shoulders. Maybe we won't get shredded by overrated guys like Flacco and diminishing guys like Manning. Maybe we'll actually get to the QB and put him on the ground. Maybe we'll stopped getting gashed on 3rd and infinity. Just sayin.
