ESPN SAM MONSON: Tom Brady is no longer a top-5 QB

http://itiswhatitis.weei.com/sports...s-decline-has-been-in-action-for-a-while-now/

2009: 10.8 rating, 11th QB
2010: 15.8 rating, 9th QB
2011: 34.8 rating, 3rd QB
2012: 44.2 rating, 3rd QB

When you start pushing an opinion that completely contradicts your own rating system, you're probably best off shutting up completely.

lmao-In all fairness to Sam, he is throwing out receptions to players who can play, it really changes the entire dynamic and supports his case fully. His numbers when throwing to jackie Slater suck, as they did with Ochocinco, and that's how we measure the greats, by their ability to throw to players who have either never played or shouldn't be playing anymore.

The writer of this article, if Rob0729 is correct, subsequently discounted Brady's better games in 13', by saying that any QB would put up those numbers with Gronk.

In fairness to that guy, I may have misstated what he said a bit. He said anyone would have a huge jump in production with Gronk on the field, not necessarily that they would put up the same numbers. Basically, saying Brady's numbers are a product of Gronk when he was on the field, but not that any QB would have put up the exact same numbers. Like say Geno Smith would have put up the same numbers.

Alright, that's fair. But as you said, the same argument could be made if you replace Gronk in this scenario with Jimmy Graham, or Calvin Johnson, or Demaryius Thomas. Nobody called Monson on this, which is rather peculiar.

I still think his argument is stupid, but not monumentally stupid.

Brady's best season was the one before last, when the Patriots put up the 4th highest scoring season in NFL history. What a guy like Monson can't see is that the Patriots scored 28 rushing TDs that year, 4 of them by Brady himself. And when you compare that to, say, one of Monson's favorites, Aaron Rodgers at Green Bay, the difference is glaring. Rodgers and Brady threw for a similar amount of TDs (high 30s) but the Packers only scored 7 rushing TDs. The Patriots averaged almost 10 points a game more! Brady was a sight to behold in 2012-2013! But apparently, Monson saw that as a less than average year for Brady.

Mindboggling.

Seems to me that Monson and Florio, et al, are just doing us a huge favor as Pats fans. I WANT Brady playing with a chip on his shoulder.

As for the talk of "decline," Brady was AMAZING in 2012-2013, and it's really hard to blame him for much last year, given the blown routes, the drops, etc. - and hell, what's there to apologize about, given the production, anyway?

Manning had a great year. There's no denying it. He barely got touched because he had big and fast receivers and got the ball out in a split second.

How many times did Demarius Thomas catch a bubble screen and take it 50-80 yards? See anyone on last year's Pats who could do, or did, anything like that?

the Pats had no business going as far as they did last year with those injuries. It is a testament to BB and TB that they got to the AFCCG. Let's see how Manning stacks up this year with Revis and browner banging his receivers at the line and the Pats hitting him from all angles. Saw how he did in the SB last year, and it would have ranked as one of, if not "the", ugliest performances in Brady's career, that's for sure.

I don't know what's more stunning, the article or the fact that you have to pay to read the garbage.

I think Manning benefitted immensely from two big outside receivers. Manning threw a bunch of floaters to the outside. His arm strength sucks at this point. He deserves a lot of credit for his decision making, but he will find out this year if he can still make these plays outside with a smaller and quicker WR on the outside opposite Thomas.

A lot of the passes to Decker last year would either be broken up passes or INTs in Sanders' direction. Not saying this as an indictment of Sanders, but Decker won a lot of jump balls on floaters. It will be interesting to see if Manning can revise his game to accommodate to the change in receivers.

If Brady had two big outside receivers than he could throw jump balls to, I think he could have been far more successful. Dobson showed flashes of that, but right when he was starting to come on he broke his foot.

For eons, civilization has fought and argued, sometimes about the pettiest things. No matter how many people thought one way, or how much evidence supported that argument, there were always a certain few who would object. Finally, after all this time, one ESPN writer has caused a unanimous, universal agreement, as all organisms of the planet earth, including, but not limited to amoebas, vertebrates, Jets fans, canines, and dinosaurs (who have regenerated from the ashes of the earth's core solely to to do a face palm), have all objected to Sam Monson's notion that Tom Brady is no longer an elite, top-5 quarterback.

Scientists have also polled semi-living and non-living organisms, such a bacteria, viruses, rocks, water and fire. Although this study is not yet concluded, all polled material substances thus far have stated strong disagreement with Monson.

Update: NASA has asked for a hair sample from Mike Florio. According to sources, there are concerns about whether or not he is made of matter.

I just wish that come this time next year every mediot who is currently ballwashing Sam Monson will have him back and explain HOW Tom Brady managed to have a better year in 2014 than he did in the season before. For ONCE I'd like to see these morons have be accountable for what they write.

Does anyone in their right minds actually believe that with a 2nd year with the WR's, even a semi-healthy Gronk, plus a fully healthy OL, Brady isn't going to be statistically better this year? If they do, I'd take their bets all day long.

Curran does a decent job of revealing "the man behind the curtain", but as we all know he could have gone even further. The very fact he used Manning as being the "gold standard" condemns his credibility.

But like I said, don't take it to heart. At worst it added to the massive chip on his shoulder that Brady already had. That's not a bad thing as we've come to learn. At best it gives the haters more useless ammo to deride and dismiss the Pats. That's also not a bad thing. No team plays the "disrespect card" better than the New England Patriots. In fact we probably should be sending good old Sam Monson Thank You cards for virtually assuring an elite season for our QB.

your post implies that he was ever an elite writer, thus giving him more credit then he ever deserved or earned.

If Brady is in decline, what does that make the noodle armed concussion maker who relies on the 5 yard pass.

Of course Brady is still an elite QB and definitely top 5. What has hurt Brady is the constant turnover of his receivers. HOWEVER, his game has slipped in recent years. He's not as accurate a passer and definitely not as clutch as he once was.

Uh, you do realize a lot of games in 2013 came down to Brady makin clutch plays when our battered D couldn't hold anyone, right? He's as clutch as he's ever been.

The moron is on PFW in Progress now.

The only interesting thing I took from that was his point about Browner always staying on his side of the field with Seattle and whether he'll be able to adjust to moving if the Pats plan on having Revis shadowing guys.
