ESPN SAM MONSON: Tom Brady is no longer a top-5 QB

PFF has always been down on Brady. PFF feels that if you complete a lot of short passes, that means you suck as a QB.

Just remember PFF ranked Brady the 33rd best player in the NFL for the 2010 season. You know the season that Brady was unanimously voted league MVP (the only player in league history to be unanimous league MVP) and broke his own record for best single season TD to INT record and set the record for most consecutive passes without an INT (335).

PFF discounted Brady's 2010 season because he had so many weapons around him that season and he is a "system QB". Ironically, Manning had even more weapons this year and Denver adopted the Pats' system.

The fact of the matter is that PFF has always looked at Brady as a system QB. So they are not going to give him the benefit of the doubt for anything. If Brady misses a rookie WR, it is because Brady's throw is off and not because the receiver ran the wrong route.

This is why PFF sucks. They don't understand football. They throw a lot of "qualitative" stats that the media loves, but I seriously doubt they actually know what they mean or if they mean anything at all.

God this off season officially got too long.

You want to get clicks on the internet as a sports writer? You write articles like the one referenced above. Negative opinions stir controversy and clicks. Attacking those at the top of their field is par for the course for a lot of the media, unfortunately.

Honestly, republish this article - claim Manning, Rodgers and Brees are better, and make the controversial claim that Wilson and Luck are knocking on the door - and I can accept it. But Rivers and Roethlisburger? Why not throw Tony Romo and Jay Cutler in there as well.

PFF is states the same things I've been saying about Brady since 2011.

PFF is the best site out there since they analyze game film. Tape doesn't lie. Unfortunately, it's only for the Homer Impaired.

Interesting that he says Brady is not in the top five anymore but fails to say who has taken his place in the top five…

Good to know a QB that can't even lead his team to the playoffs consistently is considered a better QB then Brady.

Correct me if I'm wrong, since I'm not the most qualified guy to talk football, but didn't Brady's 2010 receiving corps mainly consist of: Welker (coming off an ACL tear), Branch (who was well past his prime by this point), and the rookie duo of Gronk and Hernandez?

That's not the worst group of receivers to have, but it's a bit asinine for PFF to imply that the corps that Brady was working with in 2010, was good enough to mask any deficiencies in his game.

Didn't you pay attention to that 13' campaign by Ben Roethlisburger, Brady6? Dude REALLY elevated his game... He was so good that he made the jump to elite QB. Who could forget all of his playoff heroics from earlier this year?

I think everyone is missing the real decline in Brady's play, he only rushed for 5 first downs last year and only averaged .6 ypc, both career lows. I heard this kid Garoppolo has some wheels!

I don't get the hate for Brady I really don't the guy just wins and wills his team to victories. Even in the AFC championship game when they were down two touchdowns with little time left he kept fighting til the end yet people worship Manning who looks dumbstruck as soon as things start going wrong and they consider him better than Tom?? The last game of the 2013 season depicted Manning in the grandest stage of sports laying a total dud and embarrassment of a game but no one questions his decline only Tom's just because the Patriots drafted a QB goddammit the season can't start soon enough.

When I see these stories I remember the NY Giants winning with Jeff Hostetler who thanks to a Phil Simms broken foot went on to win a Super Bowl ring. I think the moral of the story is one does not need to be a top 5 QB to win a ring ... Russell Wilson was ranked between #6 and #17 last year give or take. We had an excellant running game last year with rookie receivers...one does not have to be a NASA scientist to know Brady's number were going to be down ... I think his numbers will be right up there this year barring injury ... even if he's a top 6 LOL.

THIS dweeb couldn't hand out towels for the girls field hockey team at Foxboro High.

I'd bet even Gymrat could swing and miss and STILL knock this little clownboy O-U-T..out.

This guy is a Vikings fan? Now I completely see the angle. He's talking himself into thinking the Vikings have a real shot at beating the Pats
It won't be long before his true intention is discovered: releasing articles stating Adrian Peterson is a better Quarterback than Tom Brady.

As we all know, statistically, Brady is a better QB from 2007--present day when compared to the guy who won the 3 SB's.

The past 4 years haven't shown me a damn thing in terms of Brady declining, so using a year of 2013 when we had a receiving corps held together with duct tape and rubberbands seems pretty unfair, not to mention short-sighted and plain wrong.
