TE Jermichael Finley medically cleared; visiting "mystery" team

Sign them both as far as I'm concerned.

Assuming he's passed the PATRIOT'S physical, and not just been cleared by a doctor, I'm all for it too. I can't think he'd be an expensive signing.

At 6' 5" that's a nice endzone target as well. I don't think you can have enough affordable depth as of early June - especially at TE. It definitely seems like the Pats have some interest in veteran TEs

I hope for his health and long-term well-being. Finley does not sign with any NFL team.

"NFL insider Ian Rapoport suggests Finley would need to make upwards of $20 million from an NFL team to clear more than $10 million after taxes."

Um - yeah, that's not going to happen.

Maybe Belichick is just doing the guy a favor by making it appear that NFL teams are considering him but moving on. Insurance companies will use his suregeon's statement against him. If at least one team considered him and passed, he's in the clear to collect his $10 million.

While I appreciate guys who put the game ahead of money, putting his health behind of both doesn't strike me as wise - so maybe this quote is also just to appease the insurance company that he's showing good faith to try to latch on with a team

"Finley doesn’t appear bothered by the talk, suggesting that it’s not about money but rather his love for the game."

Ya he would be stupid to sign with a team

If Finley thinks he can return to 100% from this surgery, I think he plays. If he plays for 4-5 more years, he is likely to make more than $20 million. And I assume if he comes back and cannot make a team's final 53 man roster, he still gets most or all of the $10 million.

While I agree with Miguel (SP?) :), I am disconcerted that the neck surgeon gave him the green light for football.

@Edwerderespn: Hearing Jermichael Finley visit to Patriots was exclusively for medical evaluation of his spinal fusion surgery.
