Is this a joke?

Being at a world-class sporting event is priceless. You can always DVR it and watch it later.

Even without the money to spend, I'll be there every ****ing game I can, and I'll have an extra day to enjoy football on Tuesday (when I watched above-referenced DVR).
Do you enjoy waiting in line for the bathroom?

You mean do I prefer my own bathroom?:)

I prefer watching at the stadium as you can see stuff much better than you can on TV. It doesn't matter how big your TV is. You still won't be able to see the receivers run their routes and stuff like that. I have a 104" screen that I watch games on and that's awesome. But you still only see a very small part of the game.

I used to love going to the game. Had season tickets for years. When they built the new stadium, I went from great seats (40 yard line in the 300 level which is about the same spot the club seats in the new stadium) to much more expensive horrible seats (corner end zone in the 200 level where you couldn't see anything when the ball was on the other side of the field). I loved the tailgating and group atmosphere of the game experience, but I rarely got to watch the whole game anymore.

Now I have a big screen and a man cave to watch the game. I have friends over a lot of the games. It makes the experience much better.

I'd rather spend money for prime seats for one game a year and then spend the rest of the year on my couch watching the game.

I'm on the waiting list but this is what I do now and I'm pretty pleased with this arrangement. I get great seats and have a ball tailgating and doing the fan experience.

But I've come to a different conclusion, perhaps because I'm planing on going from TV to STH rather than the other way around. I really prefer seeing it live. Seeing the game unfold completely and the energy of the crowd (the lackadaisical theme is overblown), and watching with thousands of fellow fans is worth it for me. Perhaps it's having grown up far outside the market and being the sole Pats fan around (until the SB years), seeing it with other fans and the camaraderie of it has a lot of value for me.

You see so much more of what's going on at the stadium vs. TV. There's no comparison.

That was true 20 years ago. Now, with 60+ inches HDTV, and tv replays in slow motion from every possible angle, I feel like I see much more on tv than at the stadium.

I go to 1 game a year for the live experience, but I always end up looking at the DVR when I'm back to see what I missed or couldn't see clearly during the game.

You can see great near the line of scrimmage with a TV, but you really can't see how the safeties line up or how the defensive backfield develops until after the ball is thrown.

I have church services that I attend on Sunday mornings. Thus, tivoing the games are easier for me. However, I could probably miss church one week to go to a live game. However, I wouldn't want to make a habit out of missing Church. Anyways I prefer watching the games on TV.

You don't know what to look for. Here are just a few things I see at games that you never will see on even a 100-inch HDTV: who is dressed and who isn't during pregame warmups, line splits, defensive backfield coverages (zones/man-to-man), multiple receiver patterns real-time, line play after the quarterback has released the ball or the ball carrier has passed the line of scrimmage, personnel changes coming from and going to the sidelines, injury treatment on the sidelines (or if an injured player is taken to the locker room during play), position groupings and player-coach interaction on the sidelines, kick returner positioning during a punt or kickoff, players warming up on the sidelines, players returning from the locker room after injury treatment, penalty flags thrown away from the play, etc., etc., etc. -- hell, even the cheerleader routines. I'm sure there's much more that doesn't immediately come to mind. And at the stadium, we also get multi-angle replays on screens bigger than anything you can fit in a living room. ;)

Why not just combine the two?

I like to watch games live it's just the vibe in a stadium gets me amped up. Don't get me wrong I love watching football on tv, but if I had to option to watch the game with thousands of other die hard fans I'll pick that all day.

Live at the game. I've been going to games in Foxboro since 1995. I've watched more on TV but I have to say that watching a game on TV when we win in the final seconds cannot come close to being there live when that happens. It's great at home but its pure magic live.

Both have merits. Both have disadvantages. I just feel fortunate whenever I can watch the team play, no matter how. Sorry, I know that doesn't really answer the question, but that's my two cents.

In general, I'd rather watch on TV for reasons of comfort, convenience and seeing the game "up close" (for the latter you need some pretty expensive seats and even then you're only "close" to about 20 yards of the field).

That said, there is nothing like being able to say you actually "saw" someone great play in person. When I was a kid in a National League city, my dad made sure to take me to games where I saw Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Stan Musial, Ernie Banks, Don Drysdale...well you get the idea...play in person. I want to do something like that while Tom Brady is still the Pats QB and BB is still on the sidelines.

If I lived closed to Gillette I would have had Season Tickets years ago Grogan days. So I pick and choose goin to NE. Rather be there Live but seein them every week online or TV better than not at all.

I think people's answers are somewhat coloured by their availability to attend games. For those of us hundreds of miles from foxboro, I would love to see them live more often. Unfortunately, I have to wait for them to come visit midwest teams like this year (and even then you arent cheering with the home crowd) or make the long trek every few years to foxboro (last time was 2007). Cheering with Pats fans in that AFC Championship game in 2007 was priceless.

TV has come a long way though!
