Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon facing season long suspension

Gordon..Thought Process.... Dumbazz!

I was against trading for him last year for this reason alone. One of the most talented receivers in the league but he just can't seem to shake his demons. What a damn shame.

... so what's that Bob De Niro is smoking in your avatar? ;-)

Whether I think the NFL's rule prohibiting marijuana and not alcohol is hypocritical doesn't matter

That's the rule - and Gordon has hurt his team as a result.

That's not someone you want on your team - and I'd feel the same way if the NFL banned alcohol and he drank, as silly as that might sound.

What happens to his rookie contract when this happens? Does everything get pushed back a year, or does he still hit free agency at the same time he would have otherwise?

so glad we didnt try and trade for him. awesome talent, completely unreliable.

You guys are missing it. The Patriots ought to offer a package for him right now. I think he is only getting a two game suspension. Imagine how cheap they could probably get this guy right now. Get him for a one year rental or something and he could potentially explode. I'd be willing to bet that the Browns will let this guy go for chicken feed at this point. The Patriots still don't have a quality wideout that can stretch the field. I know some people are delusional enough to think that Dobson is one, but his stone hands are filled with butter and oil. This guy can play his ass off. If any team can calm this guy down and get him focused it's the Patriots and keep in mind this guy played one hell of a season for the last 8 games or so.

The Patriots have always been good at taking advantage of opportunities with lost players and this would be right up their alley if you ask me. Trade like a 5th rounder or something. If it's only two games and they can get him for a year or so what could it hurt. The reward could be huge for a very minimal risk.

It's dumb he would do this knowing the consequences but the fact that players are allowed to drink alcohol but not smoke weed is a ****ing joke.

Alcohol is a literal posion, weed is a natural plant from the ground, and if you cook/vape it it has absolutely 0 negative health effects (in fact, only BENEFITS) unlike alcohol which is directly/indirectly responsible for so much violence/deaths, etc.

Josh Gordon was issued a speeding ticket in Strongsville, Ohio over the Memorial Day weekend, while his passenger was cited for marijuana possession.

I know he didn't have possession of the weed but still, he's just looking for more trouble

THis is a non issue. He was speeding and didn't have the pot...no issues.

Can;t wait for the NFL to change their pot laws

I disagree. First, this is his third speeding violation in a year, one of them for going 98 MPH. That's a completely different issue. We've all gotten a ticket or two, but 3 times in a year, one for reckless speed...you lose the benefit of the doubt at some point.

Then you factor in he's facing a possible season-long suspension for failing another drug test. He's appealing the last violation, and since it takes a while to appeal, why not hang out with a bunch of guys doing drugs? How exactly is that going to help the appeal process? Do you think Goodell is going to give him the benefit of the doubt after this?

He's in stage 3 now, and can get tested up to 10 times a month, but surrounding himself with guys who do drugs isn't an issue because he wants us to think he isn't the one doing them, despite the fact he's already failed to resist multiple times.

He's put his entire career at risk with this violation, he's put drugs ahead of millions of dollars, and rather than running as far away as possible from them, he's speeding around the city with them. It's a huge deal.

I get it's his 3rd+ offense. But even the NFL has said they will look into their MJ laws as they should. As states start to legalize it..the NFL will have to (and will) change their rules

Which still means nothing to Gordon's particular situation.

Also, under Ohio state law, he may be considered responsible for the weed, whether or not it was on him personally.

When pulled over for speeding...
1) Admit guilt immediately. As you roll down window, even before the cop speaks, confess "you got me" while handing him everything he is about to ask you for. What you have just accomplished is removing two opportunities for the officer to be in "cop mode." You have defused the tension and aligned yourself with cop ...."we both agree you were speeding."
2) When the cop asks "Do you know how fast you were going".....NEVER low ball the number and even add a couple MPHs if you like.
Direct honesty positions you as a straight shooter and the cop relaxes even more because he senses there will be no conflict during this stop...this is huge. An annoyed cop is eager to dispense justice.
At this point...
3) Try to get a read on the cop. If the cop continues to be all business, you are likely screwed. But if the cop reveals a slight smile, or you see a break in his focus.....then use this opening to your advantage. Some enjoy a conversation that breaks up the monotony of a long day on their own. A conversation between equals is a better tactic than an adversarial approach.
And don't have a weed smell wafting throughout the vehicle :)

Everyone should know this. Never had a speeding ticket before but been pulled over and i said i was doing 78-79 when i was doing 80 ish. Pretty stupid to say oh 70 :)

Talk about a stupid law

If Jim Irsay gets off the way he did then they shouldn't add anything to whatever Gordon is already getting. Being around someone who has pot on them is not an offense under any NFL rules, if it were there would be no league.

I have a feeling that even if the NFL had reasonable marijuana policy, Gordon would still find a way to get suspended. He's an idiot.

I agree. Maybe he wouldn't shoot anyone..but he would be in trouble anyways

He was doing 74 in a 60, hardly grounds for getting pulled over. Especially with the **** I see around here on a daily basis.
