I had the same thought, but SalemPats is way off base on this one. Ligaments are generally protected by muscle mass, whereas tendons can be challenged by the muscular tissue if it is overdeveloped relative to the tendons, and there are studies linking tendon rupture to the use of anabolic steroids (although by necessity these studies are both relatively small and retrospective). ACL injuries should be prevented by muscular development, particularly if the athlete is following a traditional football conditioning program where they squat and deadlift every other day. There are ways to train that would make the ACL weak relative to the opposing musculature, but I'd be stunned if that was something that anybody with experience in NFL or Div1 football could do for long without getting the living **** beat out of him by his strength coach.
